If you’re wondering how many wishes are in King Magnfico’s castle. There’s 1’923 wishes which is a reference to the year 1923 in which Walt Disney Animation Studios was founded that year 100 years ago
also "14 wishes last year" makes it only 0.72 percent and the typical one wish a month makes it 0.62 percent. Don't think that math checks out as a "high percent?" lol
Asha’s friends are all based off the 7 dwarves. Also in the song were the king and Asha are singing about the wishes it should a woman making sleeping beauty’s Iconic blue dress. And Asha’s dress has pumpkin seed patterns on it linking to Cinderella
So that's why they were really boring; they are a reference and nothing else 😐 Seriously, i saw the movie 2 times and can't remember ANY of their names except Simon. If that doesn't proof how bland thoses characters are, i don't kno what it is.
Love this film and while watching I noticed while magnifico is being sucked into the gem it shows the evil queen's mirror

There's a headcanon trending on Tumblr that the creative team on this movie was indirectly calling out the streaming services and studios for withholding/cancelling shows in their prime, as well as movies we'll never see.

I personally love this movie. It shows how a narcissist works and i think that most of the people on magnificos side sympathize with narcissists in their everyday lives. I love the soundtrack SO FING MUCH!
King Magnifico is voiced by Chris Pine who also voiced DreamWorks hero Jack Frost from Rise of The Guardians (2012): Recommend it

i think that it’s not that he didn’t grant every wish it’s that he took them and didn’t let them remember them which ripped them of hope. i think also the fact that he treated the wishes like they were his and that he had complete control of everything including their dreams
Personally, I thought this movie was fun.
Even if Asha's friends are not memorable or charming? Even if Valentino was useless and says nothing funny? Even if pop music don't go AT ALL in a medieval world? Even if Magnifico became evil out of nowhere? Even if Asha did NOTHING cool or smart to defeat the villain? All thoses moments were not boring or annoying? To me yes and all the references to other disney movies where more in the way of the story than entertaining| fun 😐

I absolutely love this movie, way better than their previous movie 😂❤ I also couldn’t wait any longer for this movie to come out on Disney Plus so I had to buy it on TH-cam (the day before Wish got announced to be on Disney Plus)
The main reason why people don't like the movie is because they told the original plans for the movie and it was going to be 2D movie. Also this is supposed to be a celebration of the history of Disney but it's very basic and Magnifico is a sympathetic villain who just has a paranoia with a backstory that's not explained
The main reason is actually because of the writing. The dialogue and plot is very generic and the motivations are confusing and unfocused. Disney corporate stepped in and ruined what could have been an amazing film by turning it into a painfully generic one.

Hey welcome back! I believe that era of Disney is called it’s Golden Era so I guess we’re onto something there haha
In the original concept for the movie king Magnifico and his wife were meant to be a Villain Couple. We could've had our first Disney villain couple on Disneys 100th anniversary. Also the Star was meant to be a godlike shapeshifting boy and he and Ashrah would have a romance. They would fall in love as he taught her magic and they teamed up to save Rosas. The song "At All Costs" was supposed to be a romantic duet between the two. The idea of a young sorcereress girl who wants to learn magic,falling in love with a Divine boy of the stars as they fight to take down the corrupted monarchy. All sounds so much more interesting.
But they scraped all of that off instead only king Magnifico is evil but it's only because he gets corrupted by dark magic. And his turn isn't even if a well done slow transition that makes sense. He just turns evil in right after touching the book and his wife, his queen doesn't even try to reason with or help or save him. She just let's him get trapped in that mirror for eternity.
The star is just a plushie meant to sell toy's because giving their female lead a Male love interest would make her look weak and make Disney look unprogresive. Even though part of Disneys brand is romance, yeah not every Disney movie needs a love story but you don't have to treat it like poison. The movie would've been a lot better if it followed the original concept.
Yes!! I saw the original concept of the movie with the villain couple and the star being a "boy" and I think I would have absolutely loved that version.
i liked the movie but i would've LOVED it if they just went with the original concept. the reason i liked disney so much growing up was because of the romance and it just seems like they're doing that less and less now 😭 i get that they want to be progressive but us girlies have always been suckers for a good romance story so idk why they can't make the lead girl a strong character and also give her a cute boy or girl to be in love with

I personally think that Disney's Wish is a really amazing movie! ☺
I don't really see much of people hating it but most are disappointed by it. It is a 100 year anniversary film and was promoted with a lot of promises (like the film is supposed to bring the old Disney magic back and that Magnifico as the most intimidating villain ever and many more such promises) none of which comes to pass. Wish is just a mediocre film. If it was just any other Disney film and not a 100 anniversary film with all the promises and expectations that comes with it, the reception would not have been as bad. People would not like it all that much but their reaction would have been of apathy rather than disappointment.
I compare Wish to Pixar's Cars 2. Cars 2 isn't really that bad of a film, and if any other company has put it out at that time, it would have been well received. But like Wish, Cars 2 also come with great expectations for coming out from a company known for making excellent work. It really just doesn't fit with the films that come before it and after it. I like Cars 2 enough but I understand why people are disappointed by it.
There is anger surrounding Wish though but that is directed towards Disney Company itself not the film. The film just had so much potential to be a great film only for the company to waste it all. All the great concepts thrown away in exchange for "safe" ideas that just pales in comparison. Anger for ruining what would have been a great film. There are even several rewrites of Wish made by people that utilizes the rejected concepts in response.

And Queen Amaya was also originally supposed to be a villain who works along side King Magnifico!
Wish is not perfect but the ending did get me when I watch it in the theatre. I got goosebumps when they started singing 😅 As for my wish, I think it´d be getting my book published because I have wanted to be an author for long time. 😊

Did you catch how Magnifico became the bewitched mirror that a certain evil queen used in a certain Disney movie 😏? So many easter eggs in this but those two are my favorite.
I waited until it came out on streaming until I watched it and I loved it! I would say for me it’s up there on my top 3 besides Encanto! and when you said you liked the beat to one of the songs,i totally agree. I also love how you have a Mirabel funko pop! Mirabel is my favorite character of Encanto!

I'm way too late to this 🥲 One of the original plans was, that the king and queen would be an evil couple. That would have been very interesting, especially if they are both evil but still displayed a healthy relationship.
I don't know, someone would still try to find a way saying he's probably manipulating her or she's manipulating him.
Personally, I would be more worried if people would accuse them of a copying illumination at that part.

I just don’t love how they radically changed Magnifico, for someone who prided himself on protecting wishes “at all costs.” Like yeah he’s hoarding his people’s dreams, but he’s protecting them, he wasn’t discarding, poisoning or crushing their dreams.
When it got to the point where “this is the thanks I get.” I feel like there should have been at least a conflict, when he realized crushing and devouring dreams and wishes could make him more powerful but there will be a heavy price to pay. But I don’t believe Magnifico deserved his fate, I hope he’s freed from the mirror. And from the Darkhold
I didn’t like it that much the first time I watched it tbh. It was funny and Valentino especially made me laugh but the songs didn’t really stick with me. But after watching it a second time I’ve really got into the songs and can’t stop listening to them now! The story is a bit bland for me and I wish they (like many people have said) used the star boy and evil king and queen route but it is what it is! Great reaction!

Wish is a 100 year Disney film tribute because of all the references to past Disney films since Disney’s inception. I think the people criticizing missed that was what the film was about. It was good film. That is the sense I got when watching people’s reviews after watching the film. I thought the animation was interesting and liked the music
"Is he actually a villain for not granting everyone's wish?" No, and that right there is the crux of the problem with Magnifico being called a "villain". He founded a kingdom and let people come and live there from all over the world for FREE, and everyone there is happy and content. He doesn't want what happened to his boyhood kingdom to happen here; he doesn't want his land threatened by anyone who may want to do harm, so he is very careful with the wishes he does grant. He's basically being a good king. What an evil bastard!
except historically and storywise stuff like this does happen with people and even entire cultures. Someone settles a culture with good intentions after dealing with tragedy and wanting to avoid it and let everyone be "happy and content," but running from the trauma instead of dealing with it in a healthy way poisons them and can turn them into another extreme evil.

@@Stardust_7273 Our own American society, starting with people like the Pilgrims fleeing persecution only to put themselves above other people (indigenous) and becoming the thing they're escaping or even another kind of evil.
Even now we've had leaders (Trump, Biden, etc) who have their own sets of problems and it affects society and other groups.
My own family has dealt with communism which while having good principles can be detrimental in practice and taken to dark extremes.

The thing is, when we come into this movie, Rosas is a very desirable place to live, and it’s run well, and the arrangement between the king and his subjects is mutual. They know what happens when they turn 18, they know what happens to their wish, nothing is hidden from them. Asha makes a problem where there isn’t one. I would love to have lived in a pre-Asha Rosas. I would be very happy with Magnifico as my king
@@Stardust_7273 Except the problem is that power is still going to a central government that's run by magic that's not treated healthily. The RULE/LAW is you give your deepest, most precious wish away at 18 (or to gain citizenship) the age when you're supposed to step out, make choices for yourself and exercise independence, but once you give that wish away you don't even remember let alone know what you gave up and have to depend on it being magically granted with false hope that it'll be before you kick the bucket which isn't very fulfilling or balancing in the long run.
As for how magic is treated, after his troubles Magnifico's default is to study, outsource and harness magic and when something appears more powerful or humbling his default is again gain more magic which becomes a crutch and ultimately a drug that if he doesn't let go of becomes his own trap.
Asha lost her father to untimely illness only wishing he could get better when we've seen no doctors in Rosas or she could've talked to Magnifico about at least some medicine or other, but she's dealt with the loss more healthily by remembering his guidance and love and allowing friends and family to help her and using her energy to look out for others and making sure they have a chance at fulfillment. She only wishes the people's wishes having a chance of fulfillment and if dangerous they have each other to help and balance them out. When the magic arrives as the glow which is meant to invigorate the human spirit and is more a breath of fresh air to the wishes, and when the star arrives they don't grant her wish but offer ways of figuring it out when asking for the wishes back has failed, and when everyone has their wishes back they have the energy and drive to do something about them. And as fairy godmother, Asha doesn't grant wishes herself but helps people figure out their needs and desires themselves with the magic to spark encouragement and hope.
Magic isn't the answer but part of a greater equation that people need to understand. It's there to help and educate you, not do the work for you.
Yes, there are some dumb things about this film. Yes, there was a better version of this story that sadly wasn't fully realized. And yes, given the direction popular entertainment has gone these days my standards are at an all-time low.
Perhaps this is a testament to me being stupidly optimistic and wanting to believe the best about things, but i can't bring myself to hate this movie to the level most other people do.
I don't hate this movie, but the original concepts seemed much more interesting. I would have loved it if Disney included a love story for their 100th year

Wish wasn't terrible BUT the concept story is far more interesting than what we got
