Why I Really Moved To The Dominican Republic

  • I Lived in Tortola a little island in the carrebean, I lived in Puerto rico a bigger island buyt completely different culture, and then finally I lived in New York the melting pop of culture. But for those that don’t know I am 100% dimincan born and raise until I was about 5 years old lol.
And finnally today after nearly 21 years I return back to domincan republic, and I’ll tell you exactly why did it. I’ll break down what this mean Financially, Lifestyle wise and lastly Safety wise.

Obviously First, since this is a financially Channel lets break down what this means financially for me to live in Dominican Republic.
Finance is tricky but simple, because is quatifiable
You have three parts to finances
But you should know that not every decision in life can be made with numbers
For example Warren Buffet lives Omaha but if he moved to another state or country he could save millions on taxes but still that price is to high because his from Omaha and that’s where he loves living
    First: Expenses
Shelter: $167 per month for a two bedroom apartment but I could be paying $2000 a month if I wanted to live in the capital ( but this is my Hometown, and for the moment its what makes the most sense )
Utilities: Light, water, Gas, phone and internet: $100
Groceries: $200 (food can be cheaper but convenience is expensive)
    Transportation: $300 a month on a SUV my moms car or $200 in car ( but I don’t have a car )
    Total: $767
But if I’m being honest I have a had many expenses and I do go a lot so I would increase that to roughly 1000-1500 per month
    Second: Income
The benefit of working online is that income stays the same no matter where live
    So that’s good
    Opportunity Cost (basically comparison )
Living in Puerto Rico cost me $1000 dollars and saved me roughly 23% on taxes
    So that’s massive
If I made $1000 I would $40 in the Puerto Rico but here I pay $270, it’s a big difference
Summary: the numbers say this is a bad idea, but I like I told you guys before, not every decision can be made thinking of the numbers, or I would be living in Dubai or something strange like that.
But for the average remote working American, trying to find somewhere to save money, you can definitely do it here
    Lifestyle
I’m a pretty boring guy, and I like a simple life
So my life here is a lot better than anywhere else honestly
Here are the factors that helped me decide to live here
First: My Family and My People
I was born here and everyone I know is from here
That’s massive, to be able to be around your family and friends
    Because relationships matter a lot
And I also love my church here also
    Second: Things to do
I do the same things here that I do anywhere else
In the little town I live their isnt much to do
But whenever I do go out, its about a 45 minute drive which isnt that bad
    Third: Convenience
This is a island and it is a third world country so theirs is some getting use to
But for the most parts all the needs are covered and the wants can also be covered
    Safety
In the US, its big and massive, and it almost feels like you’re in your own little bubble
But in a small town, everyone knows you and your family and everyone talks
The good people know you and also the not so nice people

Thanks for telling us part of yourself Tommy. I was born in the farm outskirts outside Santiago Dominican Republic. My family moved to New York in in 1967. I feel as an American as any one else - US Navy, college graduate, etc. I feel a strong desire to chill out in DR for my retirement. Is just too much tension going on in the US, especially with politics.

I’ve been following you for a couple months never knew you were Dominican until a couple recent videos I watched on Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 & it’s crazy because I’ve been considering moving to the Dominican Republic I was born in America but my family’s all from the Dominican Republic & you are right about the locals I really gravitated and was more social & interacting with the locals more than people in America including my family although I’m highly aware that not everyone is your friend but i felt more welcomed in the DR 🇩🇴 than my own city here in America.

I recommend anyone that’s has money to move to the Dominican Republic. I hope you have a great life , very soon I’ll do the same.❤️🇩🇴 I love the Dominican Republic for the same reason why you live there. My mother brought me there young twice a year to be with my family plus my father lived over there and since then I always try to go back and spend vacation there. Overall the Dominican Republic is the place I call home. God bless you always and who ever reads this comment also ❤️

DR! As an expat myself, there is definitely a trade-off. You really can't eat your cake and still have it. Many things are more expensive in the Caribbean, and many things are cheaper as well, than in the U.S. The church is also way better, more serious, in the Caribbean. I miss the convenience and access to everything in the US (especially Amazon!), but the culture is way better in the Caribbean.

    • @TommyBryson
      @TommyBryson  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Cars are super expensive here, for sure and convenience is a factor, but worth the trade off. When you think about it, it’s not really necessities you miss out on but instead conveniences

@@TommyBryson why did God send angels save Lot and his family? Supposedly because they were the most righteous family in Sodom, on their journey to the next town Zoah, Lots daughters get him drunk in order to date rape him (more than once) earlier he had offered his daughters up to be gang raped by an angry mob.
Not sure why any intelligent person would believe in god after reading the Bible, that’s just one story from the Bible, others support slavery, killing children, underage sex with children, so many mass murders ordered by god.
Or the story of a donkey talking to his master, to thwart gods plan to have him assassinated for doing what god had told him it was ok to do. Gods plan beaten by a talking donkey 😂
How anyone could read the Bible and believe in god is beyond me.
