I struggled with the "tupperwear" FOREVER....then I switched to glass containers (container and lid are both glass, with a silicone gasket on the lid, from Ikea) and the issue went away, 100%! Glass is easier to stack and store (both containers and lids), they are heavy enough that they don't slide around in the cabinet or drawer, and they also (for some reason) instantly got us to eat our leftovers - no more mystery foods growing in the fridge.
The key phrase you use that I love as you organize is "It makes sense to me.". My mother in law used to feel free to move and declutter without my permission and took pride in saying, "Just call me if you can't find something.". It took years before I realized while she thought she was helping, she was overstepping. And the only thing that mattered was that things went where they made sense to ME. I told her she was not to move anything without asking first and if it didn't make sense, I told her no.
I recently moved all my small appliances, waffle maker, blender, can opener, air fryer, countertop grill, etc., to shelves and cupboards closest to where I use them. Now I use them more often and put them away right after using them, love it!
What really helps me is to keep the lids on the tupperware. That means I cannot keep too many (I only keep what fits in the drawer) and I never have to rummage through the drawer when I have leftover food that I want to put away.
Creative Dutchess I do this. It really is a timesaver. And a headache saver. And keeps me from saving too many empty plastic containers from sour cream, etc.
Our Tupperware drawer drove me crazy. My hubby suggested we keep the lids on the actual containers and switch the Tupperware to a large pot drawer( as we have lots of containers and I didn’t want to get rid of them). Almost 3 years later, the drawer has stayed organized and when we are putting away leftovers, it’s so easy to grab the container that already has the lid on it. Sometimes, it definitely pays to switch cupboards. Xx
FINALLY took down all of the Christmas decorations and my husband stored them away. The living room is clean and feels so big! Kitchen feels clean again. I have one cabinet and one junk drawer that needs to be decluttered. The main bathroom will be scrubbed tomorrow and the floors will be mopped. I have 2 bedrooms that need to be decluttered. We are empty nesters so our clutter isn’t major. Thought on storage containers. I have changed over to glass containers from the cheap plastic containers. The cheap plastic containers are used for to go containers for visitors. I don’t store them in my kitchen cabinets - only in my pantry - as compact as possible.
I'm actually pleasantly surprised....I'm a first time watcher, and initially, when I saw your immaculate kitchen, I doubted your sincerity, and couldn't conceive of any way to improve on it....but you showed your hidden problem areas....and now I have nothing but respect. 🙂 I especially like the way you repurposed the corner cabinet to truly be really functional. Those things are usually complete chaos. Thanks! I'm definitely going to be checking out your other videos, and I'm sorry I pre- judged you so quickly! 💕
Thank you for showing your rotating shelves. As a result, I exchanged the contents of a drawer next to my stove with that inside the top shelf of my lazy susan cabinet. They had been stored that way for 15 years. I was storing baking dishes in the lazy susan, but they never fit correctly and fell behind the shelves sometimes. Now they are in pile inside a drawer next to the stove. I am not much of a baker so my "cookie " sheet is on the top. I use this often for frozen fries and fish, etc. My "ziploc" bags and wraps are now in the lazy susan . This makes sense, since sandwiches are made on the counter above this cabinet.
Just found your channel and loving these decluttering and cleaning videos! One hack I learned from the minimal mom and a slob comes clean is to put lids on the food containers and put them away that way! It keeps you from keeping too many containers and you never are looking for a lid or bottom!! It’s been life changing!! 😍 Also loved your idea about putting the things you need all the time in the more easier accessible spot instead of the difficult cupboard!!
I love your kitchen, and all the drawers make easy access. Here are some suggestions about where to store different things in your kitchen. I don't keep straws with my cooking utensils, I put them in my coffee and tea cabinet in one glass container. You could also try putting them by your glasses or cups you would use with them. Try putting your lids on your Tupperware containers. That way you only grab one thing and don't need to search for a lid. Saves time. My only exception to that is I stack these round and tall plastic deli containers for batch cooking but I keep all of my containers for leftovers with their lids on. I would put the chopping board vertically in a regular cabinet. Also I would suggest to putting the rolling pin near baking supplies
It looks like you have the space in your Tupperware drawer for this: I have issues with the rest of my house but not my storage containers because I store the lids on the container it belongs with! Yup, that means no nesting of containers and more space utilized but it also means I know what I have and what doesn't have a lid and needs to go - which becomes rare and so results in less tossed and lost lids and containers in the long run!
Dana from a slob comes clean recommends storing Tupperware with lids to avoid keeping more than you need and to keep clutter under control. We tried it out and it works so much better even though if feels like it doesn't make sense space wise.
Dear Diane and Steph - Lili from Denmark here. The last months I have been watching you two explaining the Fly Lady System to me, thank you, my two favourite Fly-Lady-ambassadors 🤩. So dear Steph, would love you to do the weekly plan in Danish, and I Will be happy to help with translation ❤️🤩❤️ happy corona-free new year to you both.
I have a donate bag constantly on the go and when it’s full I put it in the car and then when I’ve got a few bags I actually take them to the thrift store, but my hubby complained a while ago “why do we always have stuff to donate to goodwill, just buy stuff you want to keep” lol I laughed and laughed....
I just recycled a grocery bag full of those disposable food storage containers. I keep all my wraps, bags and parchment paper in one drawer, too. Long ago, I read about organizing things in zones. I had that in mind when working with the designer for my new kitchen. I love my baking zone with its dedicated upper cupboard for spices, flours and under the counter there are mixing bowls, hand mixers (yes, I have 2 AND a Kitchenaid stand mixer on the counter). Above my wall oven is storage for baking pans.
Yesterday I did my tupperware. I havent conquered it yet. I matched with lids and did the same(no lid no drawer). First time doing it and it felt great. Plan to do it as part of my zone area. They really do multiple by themselves like gremlins lol
Oh I love that you keep the plates down low so the kids can help set the table 💛 That is so sweet and I'm sure makes the three year old so proud to be able to help!
You’re just the best. One tip I heard for Tupperware is to store them with the lid on already (think it Dawn from the Minimal Mom) that way you always have a lid and you don’t have more container than you do storage space. I started do that in the beginning of December and it’s been so much easier to find and use my Tupperware.
The only way I've been able to keep my storage containers together is by swapping my pots and pans from the wall cabinet to the drawers and the storage containers to the cabinet stacked on eachother with their lids on (I only have lock and lock style so that's probably why it works). I threw the ziplocks and aluminum foil in there too (emptied that drawer to space out my cooking utensils and gadgets) since its above my food serving/pack things away area. After watching all of these declutters all I have left is my wreck of a pantry lol and seasonal stuff to go through.
Hi there from N Ireland. All set for a big declutter. Did one in March during our first lock down but there is always more clutter to move. Thanks for your encouragement.
Size of the kitchen also matters. Also the amount of drawers and cabinets. Your kitchen is very big compare to mine with only one sided counter top that many people just have. Your kitchen looks very nice.
It's so true that our first kitchen organization becomes sacrosanct. Letting go of one plan for another, more useful oneales so much sense. Thanks for the reminder.
Great video! I have started storing my Tupperware with the lids on. It came out of the need to keep them clean with a baby that liked to empty them but I have found it keeps everything so much neater and easier.
I decluttered two drawers yesterday. I got rid of all of last years used ziplock bags, a ton of twist ties and breast milk bag labels (last needed in 2011 😱), some old hand towels and wash cloths we used to use when the kids were toddlers (My youngest is 9!). The actual declutter part took about 5 minutes but I got distracted with a bit of detailed cleaning 😂. Now I'm feeling motivated to tackle another drawer.
I have 4 kids and enjoy using my leftovers the easiest way I have found is dry containers thoroughly and store with lids, saves me blhaaa & I know how much I actually use xx
A great tip I now use from Dana K. White from “A Slob Comes Clean” is to put your lids and containers together. Then you don’t have to spend so much time rifling for lids, it all stays organized, and it helps you to store less, as you have less space.
Be careful though that your containers are totally dry before you put the lids on them. As Jennifer on "The Daily Connoisseur" pointed out on her video today you might get things growing in your containers. She has containers where the lids snap onto the bottoms. Same results in terms of rifling, organization and storing less but no danger of inadvertent science projects.
@@allieblank5992 Would you mind sharing which glass containers work best for you. I bought some with hard plastic lids that cracked. My husband takes leftovers in his lunch & I hate the way the plastic looks after a few uses.
So true about things being where they are just because they always have been. I’m going to have a look at my organisation with fresh eyes and see if things need a move around.
Your cupboards look great. Well done. With Tupperware boxes I store them with the lids on. A tip I read somewhere is to write a number on the container & also the lid.
I bought a big set of nice matching tupperware and store it stacked but with the lids on... no more struggle, it was a good investment (mostly for my nerves)
U were the first fairy I met as I looked for help to declutter.... & introduced to flylady... still a looooooong way to go but I m ur fan as I continue my journey my first aha moments r inspired by u... thanks a lot... god bless u all, including ur mother & sister & their ones💕💕💕💕💕
Great video Steph! I am excited of how many You Tubers I already follow are taking part in this challenge. I love how you all are doing the same thing but have so many different and helpful ideas! Thank you for sharing your journey with us. God Bless you and your family :)
I keep my lids on my Tupperware. If I use a bowl without the lid, I still take the lid out and wash it with the bowl. Nothing gets lost and I actually need fewer pieces than I thought because everything is always together.
Nice tips! Thanks for the motivation! I just bought new knives so this week I’m purging all of my old dull knives -some I’ve had 30+ years! Streamlining to just the 4 new ones! Yay!! Wow the space I’ll create! 😀. Happy New Year Steph! Hugs from Ohio
Happy New Year🎉 I keep lids in one big container next to the big tubs, and my little lids in a smaller container next to the smaller containers... And I haven't have any chaos in 3 years and haven't had to every sort/check/reorganize again😊.
New year, new declutter round everywhere! Just coming home (was with my family for Christmas) and I am soooo excited to tackle one small spot after another to make my home fresh for 2021! Thank u so much for the motivation, have a great clutter free January :)
Hi, Steph! I did this recently in my kitchen. Things had been in the same space for ages just because. I decluttered and switched things around. It functions so much better!
Same here! I moved a bunch of stuff around. I decluttered until I had a couple free drawers. Yes, I have a big kitchen but I don't need stuff in every drawer!
Steph you make it simple! I too don't like my corner cubbert what you used it for brilliant will copy you on this! The Tupperware in this house it's insane all 5 on household use Tupperware for schools, work meals daily, I copied the minimal mom I put their lids on them of they are just a mess always!Aboard for January Declutter 🤗🤗🤗
Great motivational video! It is hard, but even organized, minimal people have to do an occasional declutter. I guess it's just a part of life. Taking inventory!😊 thanks Steph! Have a blessed week!
First I watched Diane in Denmark and then you! After that double dose I couldn’t avoid the compulsion to clean! Decluttered the two shelves in my Tupperware cabinet and got rid of 10 items! Feeling good about my start!
Dear Steph! A good year to you and your family! At the moment we bring a new cupboard into the kitchen (the space is free since 11 years) with the chance to fill it with system. But this is not the thing because I write. Its because of the Tupperware-Bin. Nearly my whole house is unorganized (some areas not), but the kitchen is organized. And yes I might be one of the not-existing-women who has organized Tupperware. And its really easy. My rules: Don't put the whole Tupperware in one place. Theres the place for cooling food. Saueges, cheese are in another than those for vegetables and cooked food). Because of diffrent materials. Than preparing food (Salad/Backery). Another is ice-"cups" (Formen). To-go-Tupperware (Buisness and Kindergarten). And the three Bols for serving food at partys. Every category is near that place where I use it. Think its your keramik (porcellain) dishes. Do you all plates, bols, cups and mugs, plates for the oven,.. throw into one drawer.... You never would do that. I will look for your new video organize your tupperware ;-) Bettina
Your kitchen is gorgeous! And I feel you on the drawer organization. It's probably the most difficult! But it really makes the day to day so much easier having it more open in the drawers. Excited to be doing the collaboration together!
We are currently getting a new kitchen fitted and i cannot wait to have it all organised and working well for us as a family. Thank you for sharing another fab video :)
I just deep cleaned and organized my kitchen and pantry and I am already doing most of your tips..lol I feel the need to do an extreme kitchen clean after the holidays...cause it gets gross after baking...turkey dinner etc...like to start the year this way .
Unfortunately I do not have long drawers or a lot of counter / cabinet space. I keep everything organized but kitchen equipment is in a closet in the family room, cookbooks in the coat closet, and pantry items on shelves and wire racks on the top of stairs / back of door of the basement. It gives an illusion of minimalism but in reality, it’s not lol
I don't keep plastic containers. I don't have the space. I have a tiny kitchen. I put leftovers on a plate or in a bowl covered with plastic wrap, or in a small pot with a lid. It's either that or throw out good food.
I never know what to do with those small things like bag ties I need. Marker for freezer. Measuring cups. Two sets. I already got rid of 6 cooking spatulas. I only use two. But I still have these picky things. Rubber bands, bread ties. Etc etc. they always find their way into the rest of the drawer . Messy
What brand is the little drawer vacuum? It’s seems very handy! I love the colours and style of your kitchen, it’s very inviting and relaxing. I wish we lived closer (I’m in Alberta) so I could take that lovely towel from you! I hang one of them in every bathroom and on the kitchen stove. I even have a “bear” for my grandson hanging off a bathroom drawer. They’re my favourite hand towels. Lol. I love your positivity! Happy New year!
When I watched one of your videos I noticed that when you made your bed you put the fitted sheet on you did one side and then the other. It would be easier if you put the diagonal corners on first. This prevents the pull on the sheet and makes it less work for you.
How do you declutter or purge mugs? We have holiday and everyday and ones the kids have made or purchased for us...I don't want to keep all but don't know where to start, can you help?
Great video Steph! What suggestions do you have for someone whose husband buys every little snd big kitchen gadget so most of the drawers are hard to declutter?
Love this clutter free idea. Perfect way to start the year 🤩 I just posted a video where i decluttered and organized my pantry 🙏🏻🌻 having a simplified kitchen is amazing!
I have two sets, but could do with one. I wash mine a couple times a year, and then it's nice to grab the one in storage to use while the other set is drying.
I think i’m going to replace my popsicle molds. It’s an 8 compartment mold and only 3 out of 4 of my kids even eat popsicles, my son hates them. I think I will look for the ones I saw on Emily Norris’ channel since they’re individual.

I heard a joke once that said that all of those missing socks somehow shape shift and reappear as extra Tupperware lids. 😂
Lol, I believe that!

I will look for your new video organize your tupperware ;-)
Bettina
Love the corner change ..we all hate ours!
I never have been organized. But I’m going to try. I swear there is a plastic lid thief hiding in my attic. Lol
I just deep cleaned and organized my kitchen and pantry and I am already doing most of your tips..lol I feel the need to do an extreme kitchen clean after the holidays...cause it gets gross after baking...turkey dinner etc...like to start the year this way .
Totally! It felt so good to get that done!
Excellent video. I need to go thru my kitchen & reorganize it.
I need to swap some cupboards/content...to make my kitchen work better...😃
Great video. Thanks for all the tips very helpful!!
I don't keep plastic containers. I don't have the space. I have a tiny kitchen. I put leftovers on a plate or in a bowl covered with plastic wrap, or in a small pot with a lid. It's either that or throw out good food.
Love your new haircut! Beautiful kitchen!
Messy
I love Organization videos. Also beautiful kitchen u have ☺️ happy New year.
This was great thanks! Loving Clutter Free January 💕
Dyson v11!
I have a teapot that matches your fish plates.
“Party in the Tupperware drawer😂😂”. For hard to see and reach cupboards, add sensor lights. It’s a game changer to help recapture those spaces.
When I watched one of your videos I noticed that when you made your bed you put the fitted sheet on you did one side and then the other. It would be easier if you put the diagonal corners on first. This prevents the pull on the sheet and makes it less work for you.
Happy New year!
Happy New Year!
Love your kitchen! And how fast you clean with that vacuum, I need one:)
Your eyelashes are beautiful! Oh yeah, your kitchen is too!
And her eyebrows are perfect too!
Just spent two full days on decluttering and cleaning the kitchen
Great job! Proud of you!
How do you declutter or purge mugs? We have holiday and everyday and ones the kids have made or purchased for us...I don't want to keep all but don't know where to start, can you help?
Get rid of all mismatched plastic ware, and get a set where all snaps together.....because, how many do we use simultaneously?
Great video Steph! What suggestions do you have for someone whose husband buys every little snd big kitchen gadget so most of the drawers are hard to declutter?
What handheld vacuum are you using? I am looking for a new one and this one looks great!
Love this clutter free idea. Perfect way to start the year 🤩 I just posted a video where i decluttered and organized my pantry 🙏🏻🌻 having a simplified kitchen is amazing!
What vacuum is that you used? I’m looking for a small vac like that for drawers/stairs etc. Thx!
You look great Steph!
Sitting here wondering how to tackle my kitchen junk drawer when this newest video appeared. Yay! Thanks. #Inspiration
😂 there having a Tupperware party every night
❤️ Your videos!
Thank you for this beautiful video😊Full
Great video Steph!!
Well done!
Is that a Pampered Chef baking dish? Looks like my favorite. How cool that you only have one set of oven mitts. I have like 20 grr.
I have two sets, but could do with one. I wash mine a couple times a year, and then it's nice to grab the one in storage to use while the other set is drying.
You are soooo pretty, Steph!
Thanks for Sharing
Did anyone else think the plant was on fire??? 🔥🔥🔥
so excited about this
A new subscriber here. Thank you for your video ❤ 🇬🇧
I think i’m going to replace my popsicle molds. It’s an 8 compartment mold and only 3 out of 4 of my kids even eat popsicles, my son hates them. I think I will look for the ones I saw on Emily Norris’ channel since they’re individual.
