I think you made that mistake in the first place. It is a good thing to check if there are meters before getting into a tuk tuk. But it is difficult to find meter tuk tuk outside of Colombo. So avoiding the use of tuk tuk as much as possible after leaving. But many people are not getting scammed after leaving Colombo. But I can't say with confidence that it won't happen. But be careful. But you will meet lot of kind and helpful people when you travel in sri lanka. You won't meet tour guides outside of Colombo either(Not sure)...

I too visited this beautiful country last year and it has all from buildings to mountains, from ponds to sea 🌊 and moreover people are great. Love from India.

I've been at this temple not long ago with a friend of mine whoum she is from Srilanka and they should charge you only 400 rupees each for entry like everybody else the price charged !!!

Yes, we the locals get overcharged on many occasions, especially in colombo by tuk tuks. Only use uber or pick me. Where u can see the cost of the ride and u can cancel too, if required.
