Carrie Dos Santos,hi this is Kathwren.In regards to your question about painting over a background,you can’t sacrifice the composition of the main subject for the background. I see this all the time in class,where a person does not want to cover something up in the background and the flowers or leaves have a flat side or it looks like the leaves were patched in to save the background. Remember, the background is the supporting actor and the main subject is the lead actor. We love to do abstract backgrounds with realistic main subjects over the top of them.
I appreciate your shows especially when you keep closed captioned on every show because I am deaf-muted artist and I understand that there are many deaf-muted artists like to watching only closed capital shows God bleed you all 🤟🏻❤️👵🏻

Mary Anderson, Gary and I do not do portraits ,so no, never have done a painting of ourselves. But We do sometimes do a collaboration painting ,where we both paint on the same painting. Nice Cherry blossoms. I love paintings of blossoms .Fun to do with a little wild bird in them. Kathwren
Kathwren & Gary, where did you buy that stencil? I have looked up Baroque & Victorian stencils all over the internet. Also Blick & Jerry's to no avail. Our hobby shops don't have these as well. Please let me know if you can. This is just lovely. I love you guys.
Just love the two of you! Did you ever do a painting of the two of you? This is a Chinese crimson cherry blossom painting I did a while ago. The symbols mean Peace, Eternity and the bottom one is Love. Hope you like it. It is a novelty decorative painting, not meant to be so realistic, so don't be too hard on me. I use acrylics.

Silly question Gary, but do you ever hesitate to cover a background? I love this painting! That said, the background is so pretty that I don't know if I could have painted over it. Of course, I know that if you have an idea for a painting, you can somewhat plan and not cover the space you expect the majority of your flowers to be in. But if a painting is not planned, how do you cover an area that came out so pretty to continue with the piece? I struggle with that. Logically I know it's silly to fret over a part of the background, but I'm a beginner- so when something comes together in a way that I like, I hesitate to cover it. Lol I guess what I'm asking is how to get over those little mental hurdles. Did you ever struggle with that when you started out?
