    I'm so tempted to pick up one of the 20 watt marshall heads, probably the sv20 for me. Its a step in the right direction, I think they've realised 99% of us just don't need anymore than 20 watts. these days.

      @@melexdyit's loud af. At rehearsal, full band. 2 guitars, bass and drums. My sv20h was in a 4x12, had volume on 3, and at 5 watts and has to face the cab towards me. That's how loud it is. It cuts right through the mix. And I'm rhythm guitarist lol. Their amp is 50 watt tube amp.

    I don’t want to be that guy, but the JTM45 isn’t really a “plexi.” The 1987 and 1959 models (50 watts and 100 watts, respectively) are usually the amps we think of when the term plexi is used. The JTM is the one that was basically an English Tweed Bassman which is why it has more sag and warmth in the mids than a plexi which is crunchier and has more of a bark.

    • @darwinsaye
      @darwinsaye 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I’ll do you one better at being *that guy*. It also bugs me when people refer to the later metal panel models as “Plexis”.

    • @stratolestele7611
      @stratolestele7611 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'll grant you that there are a lot of people that think of the more widely known 50 & 100 watters than the 30 watter. I think that's more to do with the number of players who used the newer ones and because they simply needed more stage volume. Having said that, there's more in common than is different in overall use and operation, and most importantly, its looks and the plexi panel which, as we all know, is where the expression originated.
      I 100% feel that not only is the JTM45 a plexi, but it was Marshall's first plexi. 😎

      When you buy it new you‘ll typically lose money if you try to sell back used. Depending on where you go to sell. Either direct from you where you could make max being probably $1400. Or to a guitar shop. And I could see them selling to you for $900. And then back on the shelf for over $1300 for profit

      @@frankdou4132 thanks for the info. I guess we’re having to pay a lot of $$ to ship them to the new world. It’s especially egregious when you realize there is a ~22% VAT built into the European price. Since there isn’t a VAT in the US, you’d think the price would be less here.

    I’d love to know if these amps can handle KT66 tubes like the old JTM45 amps. The studio series are cathode biased and 5881 are in the same tube family as 6L6GC and KT66 tubes but can the power transformer handle it?

    • @JasonWright-mc6dz
      @JasonWright-mc6dz ปีที่แล้ว

      I sincerely doubt it.. I mean of course its possible and it might not sound absolutely horrendous.. IF you really know your way around the PCB version of this circuit’s ac supply voltage + rectification etc. And if you’re good working backwards taking measurements & doing the math to find the resistance/current voltages. The hardest part will be finding a way to tear the transformer data specs out of Marshall Corporate’s death grip!!!

    Marshalls are to the point now where the hype is exceeding their quality. This is 20w amp for $900. The cabinet is another $500. And the amp makers are wondering why tube amps have lost most of their market share to modeling amps and computer plug ins.
    There's an old saying in business, "pigs get fed and hogs get slaughtered". If the amp and guitar manufacturers don't get their heads out of their asses and soon, they will all be out of business within 5 years. Remember, Gibson filed for bankruptcy in 2018 and was sold to an equity firm. Gibson filed for bankruptcy again in 2020. Why? Because their sh*t is too expensive. No one is buying their products, especially when they can get a cheap, quality knockoff or an officially licensed Epiphone for a fraction of the cost of an actual Gibson instrument.
    Every major manufacturer is feeling the pinch. This past Spring, Marshall was acquired by a Swedish company, Zound Industries. By way of background, Marshall initially signed a licensing agreement with Zound Industries to produce other products such as headphones and a new line of speakers that brought Marshall products to a whole new market. But, 13 years later, sales have continued to dramatically decline. So, Zound industries wholly acquired Marshall this past Spring. Marshall has become synonymous with expensive gear. So has Gibson, Fender, PRS and every other major manufacturer.
    Like Eric Clapton said, the "age of the guitar is over". Why would anyone buy a $4000 Marshal amp when they can get an amp modeler for a few hundred bucks that sounds just as good, if not better, is far less temperamental and has dozens of other great amps modeled in it? Its a no brainer, really.
    All of these big manufacturers will be out of business very soon if they don't put a choke hold on their prices and get competitive with all of their cheaper and better quality competition. The age of the $3000 Les Paul and $5000 Marshall is over.
    Its really that simple.

      There's nothing wrong with investing in your instrument. Just look at concert-level violins and cellos for example. The guitar shouldn't be any different. Just make sure that whichever piece of gear you select will last and bring the most out of your playing.
