    One thing: while the Würzburg-Hannover high speed line technically has a top speed of 280 kph, in practise it is 250. Because the speed is limited to 250 in the tunnels and there are so many of them that when the trains have reached 280 they already have to breake again for the 250 speed limit. So often the trains just stay at 250 the whole way.
    Also DB just anounced their new, quite different, interior. So I hope we will get a trip report on one of the new ICE3neo or the ICE L that will get them.

    I travel a lot for work throughout Germany/bordering countries and often take the ICE trains between different cities. I might be lucky but I rarely ever have any delays :)

      Same here. Also travelling quite a lot, but other than an occasional delay, nothing. I really don’t all the moaning. But that’s most likely a German habit… complain complain complain

    • @jatterhog
      @jatterhog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@marcd6897 most train systems have small delays here and there, no point to moan about a 15 minute delay unless you yourself planned your day badly… Sometimes I like delays, I just sit and calm down a bit in a quiet corner of the station after a busy day maybe, or to prepare something for the day. You just have to live with it :)

      You we certainly very lucky. The one and only time I’ve taken an ICE was from Amsterdam to Basel (at Basel I had a change to go to Milan) and it was delayed 1h 45min, and it ran half capacity, so a lot of people had to stand the long(er) journey. Not a fan to say the least.

      Yep I worked in Germany in the late 70,s and you could have set your watch for the punctuality of the trains, on holidays recently there were hardly ever any high speed trains on time and funnily enough the regional trains were always on time

    Three-four years ago, I was spending a fair bit of time in Germany and rode several different ICEs. I was surprised that the longest one, Stuttgart-Frankfurt-Berlin, actually finished only about 3 minutes late after a long trip. On the other hand, my train from Berlin back to Frankfurt started from Berlin Ost and was already 10 minutes late when it got to Berlin Hauptbahnhof. By the time we got to Frankfurt Hbf we were nearly 35 minutes late -- fortunately I had a 70-minute connection wait so no problem there. A relative whom I was visiting told of one night when the Frankfurt-Munich train simply bypassed the scheduled stop in Stuttgart, a dead-end station. He had to keep riding to Munich, overnight there, and travel back to Stuttgart the next day.

    Not experienced lateness on ICE trains, only on some IC trains. About 40% of the line between Würzburg and Hannover is in tunnel. Line limit was originally 250 km/h. Excellent video, thank you.

    Nice Video! In my opinion the ICE 1 and ICE 2 are the best. The ride comfort is better in the ICE 2, but the interior is better in the ICE 1 in some details. But both trainsets have a great timeless exterior design, offer a lot of space and are very cosy. I really like the indirect lighting at the windows and behind the luggage racks, on which you can store even heavy and large trolleys. All in all I hope, these exiting trains of my childhood will stay in service for a while. ;)
    Greetings from Germany!

    The Würzburg-Fulda section was inaugurated in May 1988. In 1992, ICE-Trains arrived on thins section. Before, there were IC trains with class 120 and preasure-sealed coaches only. The first ICE-line from 1991 only used the Fulda - Hannover section, not Würzburg-Fulda.

    You need to take a ride from Stuttgart to Munich before December 2022. It's the last chance to ride with the ICE, EC or IC via the famous Geislinger Steige. With the timetable change in December, all ICE, EC and IC will take the route via the new highspeed line Wendlingen - Ulm.

    Excellent video and for Schnellfahrstrecke Hannover Würzburg it's designed for Mix Passenger and Freight traffic tunnels because during the evening when there are no ICE Trains running its used by Freight Trains. Except for Würzburg to Main Spessart Bahn connector line which is used by Freight and ÖBB Nightjet services from Wien Hbf and Innsbruck Hbf via Hauptstrecke München-Augsburg.
    Other ICE2 services are 16 carriages these are Berlin to Aachen Hbf with a portion splitting off for Köln Hbf via Wuppertal and Hagen Hbf at Hannover or Dortmund Hbf.
    To Aschaffenburg Hbf these are 16:55 ICE3 DB BR445/446 146.2 Doppelstockwagen 17:37

      Not quite. The Berlin-Rhine/Ruhr route is usually Berlin-Düsseldorf (via Dortmund, Bochum, Essen and Duisburg) and Berlin-Cologne (via Hagen and Wuppertal). The trains split at Hamm station, east of Dortmund. Some Cologne-bound trains also continue to Bonn, along with the Berlin-Cologne-Bonn sprinter services.

    I remember a ride from Osnabruck to Hamburg, back in 1998, and I loved the experience on board of the ICE. I also remember a fast food restaurant overlooking the platforms at Hamburg Hbf where I spent a lovely trainspotting afternoon while I waited for my connection to Copenhagen. This station brings me back fond memories.
    One question: how do you know which model is assigned to each service? For example, just to clarify, is there a way to find out that services running from Munich to Hamburg are all ICE 2 and from Hamburg to Berlin all ICE 3? How do you know where to get each specific trainset? I am curious

    I recently travelled in Germany with the ICE 4 both times, and they were late both times! I made my connections but only because I put in 45-55 minuts for switching trains. And the old ICE 2 ( and 1) are better. Nicer interior and most important , better seats. The ICE 4 seats in 1st class felt lika a 3rd class wooden bench after 2-3 hours.

      That’s the most inexcusable one! I also had a really infuriating experience in Berlin Hbf, where the train simply didn’t show up, and only after like 10 minutes past departure there was a notification saying it was 30 minutes delayed. The train then passed through Berlin Hbf on its way to its starting point at Südkreuz, only to return a whole 30-35 minutes late. In addition, half of second class was blocked off because of *drumroll please*: broken air conditioning! They really ticked all the boxes that day.

  • @zazanova7327
    @zazanova7327 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unfortunately, I always plan at least 1 hour puffer in between connections in Germany because of nonstop delays. The obvious reason is the mismanagement by DB not having an own passage for the ICE's and many other things, like letting rod the whole infrastructure for decades and wondering why we are miserable. It really showed how bad our situation is, when the 9€ Ticket came along. That is also the reasons why lots of people go via ICE because it is nightmare if you god forbid have an appointment and take the Regio. Right at the moment, you are really trained at being patient around Frankfurt Hbf due to construction work. I have to travel a bit between Augsburg and Giessen and when ever I took the ICE there was always a fricking delay. But still what ever I vent about, it is because I love traveling via train and do hope we get better here soon. I do hope the 9€ Ticket stays, it is good, offering a cheap alternative at the Regio beside the ridiculous expensive tickets we have.

    Luckily we had so much time in Frankfurt that we could take the S-bahn to Hannau and with 7 minutes to spare we could make our train to Wien from there instead.
    But we where also 10 minutes delayed arriving at Wien Hbf.
    The last delay was a combination of CD and DB´s fault :-)

      Maybe you should leave a bigger time slot between trains ?

      @@maryburger1232 Maybe DB should not be 45 minutes late.
      We had 35 minutes in Nürnberg and on the trip from Mannheim I had over 30 minutes of layover in Hamburg as well.
      In any other civilized country that should be enough time.
      In the case with the late train from Mannheim it ended out being only 6 minutes or so, so I could buy a sandwich and something to drink for the last leg to Denmark.
      But when DB start sending out emails that you won't make your connection and are free to book any other travel you start to get worried.

      @@anderslarsen6009 From personal experience it’s gotten worse over the last few months, at least where I live. Delays are very common, a strange number of people throw themselves in front of trains, causing huge hold-ups for hours, and signal/point failures also seem more common.

      The link the the airport, late night service, higher frequency and week-end trains would boost Sunrail ridership tremendously but Florida politicians are too caught up in "race theory" and other stupid shit to do the right thing.

    Sad that you didn't mention - this train is inaccessible on its own yet at stations with higher platforms. You have to call hotline and arrange a mobile lift should you want to travel ICE2 in a wheelchair

      @bahnspotterEU 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@connecticutmultimodaltrans8226 Don‘t know about if the newer ones have a wheelchair lift built in, but there is no level boarding on any ICE unit. All have steps built in to reach the floor height. DB will introduce low-floor locomotive-hauled Talgo sets branded as “ICE-L” (L for low-floor), but these are really more InterCity than ICE trains. Therefore, level boarding on any proper ICE is still a long way away currently.
