Worst Fanbase on the Internet Bracket
Hey guys welcome back to my channel! I've been thinking recently about stans and fanbases on the internet and how over the past few years they've seemed to get more and more flack for being either too intense, too insane, or just generally "the worst" thanks to all of these fanbases growing like crazy with more people joining online communities. Practically every large fanbase at one point has been regarded as "the worst" online whether it’s stans for the dream smp, kpop, stranger things, swifties, furries, arianators, marvel, harries, disney, potterheads or gamers… the list can go on for a WHILE lol. So I thought it could be fun to decide once and for all (at least according to me lol), who the most insane fanbase really is. I looked online to see which communities were seen as insane most often then originally was planning to definitively rank them on a tier list before realizing that if i really want to find the most insane fanbase there can only really be one. So instead we’re using a bracket system where we can pit the fanbases against each other until we have our answer :)
As usual while this might be definitive for me it doesn't have to be definitive for you so if you would have placed people differently let me know in the comments below, honestly love when yall put ur reasoning there it’s really fun to see how different some people’s results are compared to mine and why LOL. Also ik it probably goes without saying but just in case, obviously, this isn’t meant to be taken super seriously, we’re basically looking at the most insane moments from each fanbase but ofc that doesn’t mean that’s all these fanbases consist of, every community has good and bad and sometimes that bad is funny asf so is it really that bad...

If you guys think today's kpop stans are crazy, you would faint finding out about what second gen stans have done. I’m not in the Kpop fandom but they will always have a little soft spot in my heart because during the George Floyd protest they filled a cop app, that was suppose to catch protesters, with their favorite K-pop singer dancing. That is both hilarious and bad ass.
kpop fans are constant fighting and arguing and doxxing, but every so often something unites us and we put all our effort and toxicity (some of us) into it

THISSS I recently got into DR around 2020 (?) and I was not prepared for how toxic the fandom is. I was shocked too, like how is a fandom of a queer, POC show so hateful…? (Granted there’s white queens on the show but there’s sm representation for poc queens & even rupaul- the head queen- is black). It just makes no sense cuz most fans are apart of minorities themselves.. they should know better.

I think that the reason why kpop Stans can be very toxic it’s bcs of the kpop industry itself. The companies literally encourage their fans to have parasocial and toxic relationships with their own faves everytime.
Many of them even think that their faves are their boyfriends and get obsessed with charts too
But instead of stopping them the companies and labels keep giving them the chance to do it, it’s really a big problem atp
Or age honestly. I say this as someone who's been into Kpop for 10 years, most of us who got into it young grow out of the stan culture bs.

As someone who's been in kpop, jpop, thai idol-actor fandoms... yeah. Stalking is still a problem in Jpop idol world, but at least Japan as a whole is strict about following the unspoken rule of 'do not bother others'.
There was a jpop idol group who cancelled several tour shows because the fans in the area were being disruptive when using public transport on the way to and from the concert.
So stalker individuals still exist there since the law about stalking is as shitty as most countries, but you won't find crowds of 'fans' following and mobbing idols.
What kills me is that the more milquetoast and vanilla the celebrity or piece of media is, the more unhinged and violent the fanbase is. Minecraft gameplay is literally 0.0001 km/h and yet the fanbase would throw a nuke at your house for badmouthing MC youtubers if they could.

TBF I think a distinction should be drawn between "Minecraft fans" and "Minecraft streamer fans". One is about enjoying the gameplay, while the other is about enjoying a streamer's personality. There's overlap but what they're "fanning" over is different.
@@siiri8902 I think that's the answer: In any community there is a small fraction of crazy people, but when something becomes as popular as Minecraft, Taylor Swift, etc, that tiny fraction of crazies becomes large enough in absolute numbers to make a name for themselves.

Something about brazilians kpop stans: Chuu became an icon here, especially in our colleges. It started in 2020 when someone placed a poster in one of the colleges with Chuu’s Hi High teaser photo with the subtitle “have you seen this woman?”, it just started expanding and in a way that other kpop stars where showing up in the posters, last year it just blew up because of the elections and it was normal seeing things like “Chuu from Loona for President of Brazil with Jihyo from twice as vice” “Who is better? Chuu from Loona or Bolsonaro” “Lula President Chuu from Loona as vice 2023” loll when she was kicked even people that don’t like kpop where pissed off, she just became the queen of brazilian colleges

As someone who was a victim of the tumblr craze for Larry I've learned that the only way to stay sane while being a fan of something is to stay away from fandoms. In the internet you don't know if you're interacting with a 13 year old or a 27 year old so i just retired myself from them, I listen to k-pop and taylor swift in silence 😭

as an orbit it was honestly life changing being present during the boycott, the dedication was actually amazing to witness, I saw multiple people who'd never even heard of Loona talking about it!! it was so cool and weirdly inspiring

Right now the Loona Union is organising a petition to help five of the members win their cases and they communicated with Loona's lawyers and everything, i'm really impressed by their engagement.

As a multi-Kpop stan, I can safely say 90% of the fandom is batshit crazy, but when we unite, we UNITE. I also think that despite the crazy, we can be very funny, intentionally and unintentionally.
Orbits simultaneously being one of the worst yet funniest and most powerful Kpop stans to exist.
I’m not a KPop Stan but I truly admire how they harness their chaos for good. - spreading awareness about George Floyd’s murder, trolling that trump campaign event etc.
I think kpop stans deserved that win, considering you can make a whole video talking about the toxicity of certain group stans within the kpop realm too.
Surprised not to see anime fans, considering they’re like gamers in their own way.
I feel like Gamers are definitely a tad bit more toxic than kpop fans. Kpop fans are delusional and care way too much about achievements. Gamers break their stuff, have way too many meltdowns, and can be very very vile. Anime fans are crazy, I don't think they are as crazy as the other two.

BRO thousands of kpop fans have found people's addresses and location for making comments about their faves 😭 like not only that they also give out the worst death threats and have even PHYSICALLY fought OTHER fandoms before. not to mention how they literally send out fireworks and trucks of protests to the groups' companies, showing up to the idols' apartment(like how did they find them😭) and threatening to bust open their door.
I don’t even use the same corner of the internet as Kpop stans but they’ll show up on a random post and it dissolves into pure anarchy or obsession. I’m seeing this as a compete outsider who couldn’t tell you how many members are in BTS or Blackpink. You are partly right, but you also have to see the side in which Taylor is one of the most hated artists or the one that has received the most hate in the pop and music industry, in general. Many of her criticisms of her are made with little respect or insulting and denigrating her. As a fan, many times I have seen completely valid criticism of Taylor (an example, the attempt to clean up her image by collaborating with Ice Spice), and despite the fact that she is someone I admire a lot, I have known how to respect them because they have been done with RESPECT, but I have seen many times that fans of, for example, Kanye West / Ye denigrate her, claiming that Kanye is better, and I think that you may think that one artist is better than another or you may like him more, but that is not why you go and discount another artist, since at the end of the day it is a matter of taste.
In conclusion, the problem is part of certain swifties, who often don't even know how to control their fanaticism, but also fans of other artists or the press (although that last one is another story, for many years they tried to throw her off just for dating many boys) who often denigrate her, and her criticisms that are often completely valid, end up losing seriousness or meaning because they are clearly guided more by hatred than by objectivity

Do you do a deep dive into each fandom and study every issue that's occured and do a full blown comparison? It's easier to say the one you see more of is worse because you're more exposed to them. A fandom you rarely see in the first place probably isn't going to be the one you consider the "worse fandom". The smaller fandom or the fandom you personally don't see as often as the other could be the "worser" of the two but because you're not exposed to it as much as the other one, the other is considered the worse one.

I think 4chan users would have been a better place holder. While 4chan user also encapsulates other things besides gamer, I think its a more specific potent of the toxicity she was describing. Plus, there is a more clear documented history of all the shit they have done and organized. I believe a big chunk of gamergate was campaigned directly from 4chan anyways. To me, what makes them so bad, to which what she was sort of showing with her examples, is that 4chan users tend to just be extremely edgy. As a K-pop Stan, I have to agree that the community is terrifying and very toxic. We're constantly fighting amongst ourselves because of stupid reasons, so we've seen it all first-hand. I'll have to be honest though, even if it sounds like I'm defending the toxic fans, which is not my intention.
K-pop fans are constantly made fun of and harassed online and irl for literally no reason. Every time I meet someone new, it's hard to tell them that I'm a K-pop fan because of the judgement I'm used to getting. People's excuses for disliking it can be valid, but you shouldn't take it out on other people. I also noticed that some haters have racist excuses for disliking music, calling all groups and idols Chinese and saying it's just "Ching Chong" music, which is honestly disgusting. I just feel like K-pop fans grow more toxic every day because we're so used to defending ourselves. This doesn't excuse some of the trashy shit that we've done though, but people often forget that we are human just like them. Every fandom has it's bad side, and you can't stereotype everyone based on a few viral moments. It's just Korean music after all, it's nothing revolutionary.
I was once playing a game online where you could make booths for anything and I decided to do a booth called "Ask a K-pop Fan Anything" and some dude made a booth next to mine telling me to kill myself and that every single K-pop fan needs to go to Hell. TBH KPOP Fandoms and army's are different. For one, they all gang up on ppl together. Also they "kicked" armys out of the kpop circle, which honestly is our independence day. Army's are literally by ourselves. Second, army's do tons of fundraisers and charity's events. Yes some of us are delusional but so is part of other Fandom. I just hate being grouped with kpoppies.
