Because of This, Archaeologists Dare Not Excavate The Tomb of The First Emperor of China

  • In 1974, the discovery of the Chinese Emperor's burial complex containing approximately eight thousand life-sized terracotta warrior statues became one of the most significant discoveries in history. Although the complex is believed to contain secrets of the first Chinese Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, archaeologists are still reluctant to touch the tomb that serves as his final resting place due to concerns of potential damage or destruction of the historic site, as well as potential traps and dangers inside. Qin Shi Huang was the first emperor of China who achieved many remarkable accomplishments, including the construction of the Great Wall of China, but he also desired eternal life and ordered scientists and explorers to search for a magical elixir, which ultimately did not grant him immortality.

It indeed hasn't been opened yet. China's current technology is not able to deal with the large scale of the underground palace yet. For example, in the case of the Terracotta Army, the archaeologists were initially unable to preserve the coat of paint on the surface of terracotta figures, which resulted in the rapid shedding of their painted decoration when exposed to air. The State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH) indicated that research and evaluations should be conducted first so as to develop a protection plan for the underground palace.

@@wildestsquirrelwildestsqui5020 I don't think ancient tomb raiders were able to test for mercury levels. I believe it to be more like it was well hidden. Buried and then covered with forest. Also anyone who knew the location were killed off. It was farmers who discovered the place meaning the place was eventually inhabited and farmed on for centuries without suffering the immediate effects of mercury poisoning. People eventually wore off the soils covering it and hit the site.

There is seriously a lot of BAD info in this video. The tomb is literally a mound of dirt in the shape of a pyramid so people have known about the tomb since it was built. You really can't miss the tomb since its the tall structure in a flat region of the country. The terracotta soldiers are a different story. That was buried by dirt and forgotten until it was found in the 1970s. Even then, it wasn't buried too far from the site since it was around a mile or 1.4 km away from the burial site.
The real reason for not opening the tomb is mainly because of Chinese superstition that if the tomb was opened, it would curse and destroy the country with bad luck. Its always bad luck in any Asian culture to disturb tombs unless its to rebury the ancestors in better locations. More so with this tomb since it was the first emperor and he had a penchant for destruction. His desire to live forever by using mercury pills is also one of the reason why people fear his spirit still exists inside the tomb. There are also rumors of rivers of mercury inside the tomb and had enough fuel storage to keep torches lit for thousands of years (which is unlikely). The mercury theory was likely given equipment detected high levels of it in the dirt above the tomb.
Ancient people were not afraid of mercury. They thought it was a way to achieve immortality. That was not the reason why people in the past never opened it. The main reason is still the threat of a curse.

Qin Shi Huang didn’t build the Great Wall, it had already been built, he just had parts of it connected. Just like he united several kingdoms into one state. He was a cruel and ruthless man who had many books burned and scholars executed. The Terracotta Army was replacing lots and lots of human sacrifice. Many had to die with him but the army must have been powerful enough that they talked him into substituting real human soldiers with their terracotta images.
As for the grave itself, mercury is highly volatile and if it was in open surfaces like imitation rivers and sea, it didn’t stay there. It also has the ability to dissolve every and any other metals in it, especially precious metals, thus creating alloys (liquid mixed metal solutions). Remember the old silver tooth fillings? Now that was mercury/silver alloy.
My guess is that every bit of metal in that grave was contaminated, corroded and dissolved by the mercury fumes and then the liquid slowly seeped into the ground. I would not drink well water there. What is left is possibly not that attractive for treasure hunters and not that informative for archaeologists.
I find it ironic that he died because he wanted to live forever and even in his death he was pickled in mercury.

I remember the revealing of the terracotta army when they first acknowledged its existence. I was born in the 80s.
I'll tell you what though. It is always fascinated me. Something kind of like Indiana Don's archeology is always fascinated. To all of the porcelains that were lost, The Great Wall is nothing but a cemetery. Even his own burial is nothing but a cemetery.
Search for immortality was never found. But his memory will live forever. So in a way he did reach immortality.
He gave us The Great Wall of China which you can see from space. And his tomb is probably beyond breath. Taking jaw-dropping how there is an even words of how magnificent and must look. I understand that Archeologist
Are unsure about going further and maybe the Chinese government doesn't want it bothered, but we have technology now to where we can send cameras in that that look like bugs. Although it have to do is drill a little hole through the door and let the camera go. You can use remote control drone to go through all different kinds of rooms. That way, you could see what the inside looks like. And get a first look without putting anyone in danger.
    Another thing is.
Government governments are Not wanting to spend the money to uncover it, but just think of all the money andtuitist you will make everyday.
Will reach and overcome the money that was even invested.
It still stands as a bit. A question of what is truly in there other than what our imagination can give.

For everyone saying they can’t drill a hole to look in because they don’t want air to begin the decay process, there are ways to do this it’s not the reason. The reason almost certainly comes down entirely to cultural reasons one of which is their strong superstitious attitude.

I always laugh when I hear people say that the tomb has "bow and arrow" booby traps. It's hard to believe that wooden bows and string would last more that a couple of hundred years much less 2000. If there are any left I'm sure they have rotted since then. The "rivers on mercury" could easily be defeated my haz mat suits. I think the real reason is that the Chinese are a suspicious lot and are afraid of the bougy man.

They are communist so of course they'd be wary of the "bougy" man. Now if they're afraid of the boogie man that's another story

@@jeraldbaxter3532 One Chinese documentary I watched - available on TH-cam I think - said much the same as you. There is so much that they are still trying to preserve what has already been found, no point in opening up more of the tomb until they have finished with what is already being excavated/investigated because the end result will be a lot of nothing.

Mispronounced the 1st Chinese emperor's name is annoying.
Qin is pronounced as shin....like leg area known as shin. Shi is pronounced as shee.....like sheep or sheen. Huang is pronounced as h'wan. 🤦‍♀️ I'm not Chinese but at least I can pronounce it correctly.

If the dynasty Qin United with the other 4 kingdoms.
If destroyed emperor chin's army and the dynasty of Qin Pin self and unified the rest of China with chin out of the way but he waited for chin to take 3 kingdoms. They sat back and waited while they sent people on assassination missions instead of reaching out and making alliances and taking them out when they had the chance. But they sat back and waited and that was your downfall
