OMG, this totally blew my mind! I got so many layer cakes donated to me for our Veterans to make lap quilts for. I am so going to make this and many! Thank you sew much for this gorgeous quilt idea and tutorial. I know how our Veterans are going to love this!
I love that your patterns are so simple to follow, and usually have very little waste. Thank you so much for sharing your patterns and showcasing some beautiful fabric lines!
Another beauty! You choose fabric collections that I normally wouldn't gravitate toward when shopping FQS and make them sing! Now I'm going to have to buy this one too. ❤ Thanks for your weekly gifts!
I love all your patterns. Bless your heart you do all these videos for us quilters and for free. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love using layer cakes. Thank you again.
Great quilt. I plan to share it with our beginner quilt group. We will probably do a trial run using assorted 10” scrap fabric. Sounds like fun - thanks for the idea!
Thank you once again! I love your channel ❤ If you put out a video every single day, I wouldn’t complain 😉😄 What do you do with all of your lovely video quilts? I am running out of family members to gift my quilts to 🤣
You always make everything look so easy... love this pattern, too. The tip about Art Gallery Fabrics usually having a flannel, matching one of the fabrics in the collection for the backing, is great. I will check that out... thank you. Take care and blessings to y'all.
I love this pattern! So versatile for layer cakes or fat quarters, or jelly rolls with charm packs - I’m going to try it with batiks. I hope they work as well as your fabric. I’ll order your fabric too - sooo pretty.
This and another of your quilts that I just watched would make wonderful quilts for my guild’s charity - thus charity is for children in difficult situations and has kids up to around 16-17 years or so. These layer cakes will be perfect for those older ones. Plus we have no idea when we donate each Fall his many girls and boys they have at that time so we need to be aware of this - it’s so easy to make quilts just for younger ones forgetting about the older ones!!! I did go to your website and get the pattern - thank you so much for this pattern and it’s the perfect size for many of these kids!!!
Mind blown 🤯 - I’ve always wondered how people make the blocks and just couldn’t wrap my head around it. You have completely made it make sense to me! I’m off to get the pattern and then search for layer cakes to make a trim size for my granddaughter! Thank you 😊
I have been struggling with the layout of a scrappy king quilt that I am making for my son and DIL. It just didn’t look good. After seeing this pattern, the light dawned and, with just a few modifications, I am using your idea of a quarter log cabin to redesign that annoying monster. Thanks for the inspiration!
Me encantó este patrón!!!muy bersatil, da para muchas ideas y haces que se vea fácil de hacer 😊❤ Gracias por compartir tus conocimientos y experiencias Tiene otra suscripción
Very pretty quilt. 🥰 Love that flannel too. I've always wanted to make a log cabin quilt. I am hoping to start one soon. Thank you and I look forward to your next tutorial.😊
In your final stage of trimming the block to 8 1/2 inches, are you trimming all four sides? You only show trimming the 2 excess bits which leaves me with a 9 inch block. Great tutorial! Thanks so much!
Hi, thanks for this great tutorial ! Will one layer cake be enough for the baby size quilt top? Also, would you add sashing to this or just a binding? And if I wanted to hand tie the quilt , I would sandwhich the quilt layers , square it up and hand tie it before adding the binding? Or I could stitch in the ditch on the machine instead? Thanks
This is a beautiful quilt pattern. Thank you for sharing it with us. I have a question about using flannel for the backing. Do you wash and dry the flannel first so that the entire quilt shrinks the same in the wash?
I never prewash, but I do add color catchers for color bleeding, just in case. (Maybe two or three color catchers for red prints, or colors I know are known for bleeding.) Now if you prewashed yardage and then cut 10" squares from it, then I'd wash the flannel. In short term, if one thing gets washed, then prewash everything else. 🤗
Within the free PDF download, it has all five sizes. Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen and King. I've also now added a second photo of the materials requirements for all sizes for viewing before downloading too. ☺️ Links are in the videos description.
Thanks for a great pattern. I’m giving it a try. The pattern and video say to trim to 8 1/2 inch square isn’t it a 9 inch square. What am I doing wrong?
@MoonkinStitchery I am beginning this quilt and my squares are also 9". I wondered about it until I read this comment. Thanks for replying to it to reassure us we didn't make a wrong turn somewhere!
Thanks for the pattern. But, in your video you said to square the block to 8 1/2 inches. I think you meant a 9 inch block. That’s the way it worked for me.
I'd love to quilt your quilt! ❤ Link: www.moonkinstitchery.com/longarmquiltingservices
I subscribed because you demonstrated with very little time wasted talking. I appreciate that!
Thank you!
I agree! Great videos.

great content. You're a natural teacher. I like the way you quickly switch out the finished examples instead of filming yourself sewing. Thanks!

Great quilt. I plan to share it with our beginner quilt group. We will probably do a trial run using assorted 10” scrap fabric. Sounds like fun - thanks for the idea!
Great idea! Just cut 10” squares from as many different fabrics as you have. It’s great for my guild’s charity also!
The quilt & quilting came out gorgeous!
Love your patterns and love the new fabric!

I love designing patterns, sewing them, and quilting it all from the very beginning to binding. Lol 😆

Thanks for the pattern.

Love it! I will make this one.
Great! Thank you
Love this! Do you pre-wash the flannel before quilting?
No since you can't really prewash precuts.

@@MoonkinStitchery Thank you for answering so quickly! Have a great day.

What size quilt will this make?

Congrats on hitting 20k!
Thank you! 🫶🤗
Nice
So cute. When the layer cake has pinked edges, do you measure from the outside of the pinked, or the inside of rhe v? Thanks!!
Outside. 🤗
❤️
Thanks for a great pattern. I’m giving it a try. The pattern and video say to trim to 8 1/2 inch square isn’t it a 9 inch square. What am I doing wrong?
If you can get a perfectly 9" square then go for it! You'll just end up with a slightly larger quilt. 🤗
@@MoonkinStitchery Got it, thanks for replying!
😊 this is going to be my first quilt. How do you put it together in the back? What pad do you use fir the back , how did you put it?
The PDF pattern explains how to finish your quilt. ☺️
What about pressing the seams? Do you do that as you sew? Is it necessary?
I press seams as I go. It makes it easier for the next piece I'll sew on. 😊
Are the strings cut 2/2or 2 in
