I think this video should be subtitled "Kevin's House Tour" with the constant location and camera changes. On a more serious note, I have some musical experience but no background in it and yet I still have ideas for plays. Like a musical version of Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" with songs inspired by 50s and 60s pop ballads. For example, the Salem girls having fits in the courtroom and singing "The Accusation Sensation", inspired by all those silly 50s dance crazes.
This was very helpful. I have to write a musical for my summer class by myself, and the last person that was helping me write it, and they dropped out of it. I have been having issues with getting the scenes down by a certain date i set for myself so i can start with the next scene. That is so helpful for me, even though it wasn't a tutorial. Thank you!!!!
The point you made about composing with technology reminded me of one of my favorite Adam Neely videos. He mentioned that when you compose in a music software, it's too easy to put things down just because they sound cool. For instance, guitar chords that don't make sense or runs for woodwinds that are nearly physically impossible. I used to try to compose in a few different notation softwares, but I found that the quality of my work suffered. I'm glad that so many people are talking about it.
Writing music for a musical. Stuck after the 7th song. Looked for a video online and found this. We have a similar approach to writing! Great video! Now back to work.
since it's summer, I might try your writing method. Not so much about music, more novel-ish stuff. I usually write for fun a lot, but this year I haven't because I've been so busy with school and numerous productions. I need to dedicate a specific amount of time to just writing and finding cool ideas to work with more often than just letting them come to me. Seems like your process is similar to mine, so your habits might translate well.
Great video on ‘the process’ Kevin. I finished two songs i’d had shelved for years just by following your methods. On a side note, what editing software do you use? Kind Regards!
Camera angle changes were AWESOME, plus... It sounds like you are suggesting to us to... get fancy with the spices, eh? A la "Ratatouille"? (My favorite line in the movie!) Hehe. LOVE IT!
this was helpful! i've been trying to work on a love, simon based musical just for fun and it's hard for me to be productive. i'm taking a keyboard class in college as part of my major (choral music education) and hopefully that will also help my productivity as i have VERY basic piano skills (as in i know what note is what and i can form some chords)
Great video, I look forward to seeing more of your videos :) One quick question- when you're working out ideas at the piano, are you able to improvise both hands at once? Or do you work out ideas and themes in one hand first and then add a bass line/chords after?
Thanks so much for this video- it's super helpful! I would love to see you listen to the soundtrack of The Band's Visit- I feel like you'd enjoy a lot of the music from it.
This was such a helpful vid
Helpful ? Its not seems to me . It's like how to sit on bicycle .. nothing discussed how to ride the bicycle
My favorite part about the entire video was the constant changing of location and his position with the camera.
Chavon Taneal 😂😂😂😂 Read this while watching and this comment made me hyperaware of EVERY location change. I’m laughing so hard.

I know it's kind of similar, but would you also be able to make a video for arranging music? I'm planning on arranging a song for my group. :)

would you agree that inversions are the glue that allow for smooth transitions from major key to relative minor, and vice versa?
Great advice!
I missed you ❤️❤️
