  • It's time to start assembling the mighty Orion Dropship. It's easy to fall into the trap of building this kit in the sequence shown in the instructions which could well lead to results below what you were expecting.
    Please join me in this video to find out why and see a demonstration of how to start this model in a way that will set you up for a great finished model.

    As I am native American English speaker can anyone tell me if dunking intermission is some sort of clever double entendre or word play that I'm missing out on? Thanks

      +Nathan Anderson No hidden meanings there my friend, just what it says. Thanks for watching :)

    Impressive. The level of care you put into model prep is really inspiring. I usually just seat-of-the-pants it, which is why my Fire Raptor fuselage is seriously lopsided (well, that and the fact that it is a fleaBay special and most likely not genuine).

      +Brooks Sligh Cheers dude, it's all good fun. Seat of the pants construction for a seat of the pants flyer? Maybe one day when I feel super-brave I might buy and build the Fire Raptor Gunship for a challenge.
      Can you share a picture of your FR on Twitter, I'd be interested to see it?
      Thanks for watching :)

    Great video. Watching your demonstrations is giving me the confidence to build up to a larger FW kit. Thanks for your efforts.

      Great to hear mate, that's what I hope you guys get out of these demos. In some ways it's not that hard once you understand the principle but it took me a long time to learn how to do this so hopefully you can benefit from that experience. Thanks for watching, Firstling :)

      Golden Bird, I like that, I'm thinking Lost Cities of Gold for another influence now. No idea what will come next but there will be more content on this for sure. Thanks for watching mate :)

    Man, I simply love this kit - but someone else mentioned before, and I agree, that it's just crazy to shell out what these things cost and have the molds be malformed in such an impressive way.
    I'll certainly be keeping track of your progress though - when/if I ever get one of these, I'll probably have to fight with it as you have and the insight will help. Keep up the great work!

      @leakycheese  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +FerreusVir Well, as a person who is, last time I checked, sane, I'd take umbrage with your use of the word 'crazy' to describe buying a model like this 😉
      Jokes aside I have three observations for you to consider:
      1. I build my models to a high standard and put considerable effort into assembling them as perfectly as possible. It is quite possible to compete these kits with less effort and get a usable model.
      2. Resin models at this size are all hand cast and don't have anywhere near as good tolerances as plastic injection moulding so what you see here comes with the territory, so to speak.
      3. I think Forge World somewhat underplays how much of a build challenge these kits are in their literature. In my view this is a model for a seasoned builder with a decent amount of prior experience working with resin. That, by the way, is why I make videos like this as opposed to looking at plastic kits like the Repulsor.
      I'm glad you enjoyed this video and hope you enjoy the series as it develops.
      Thanks for watching :)

      Heh, I hope you didn't think I was actually calling you crazy - then again, aren't we all just a little bit nuts?
      I, too, build my models to the highest standard I can and I understand that there some kits, plastic, metal or otherwise, that need some love - either because of poorly designed sprues or coherent instructions. Additionally, your comment about resin models of this size is something I also have experience with - specifically with FW because, let's face it, who else produces such massive kits? My only gripe is that it seems to have become so much the norm to get a malformed kit that we as a community have taken to just shrugging off poorly made products simply...well, just it is how it is - which seems wrong to me.
      Like I said - I really enjoyed the video. It's a shame it takes fellow community member taking time from their day/life to make a video on how to fix a $400 model, something that has become par for the course with FW. I suppose I just wonder what would happen if we started demanding quality kits for the price they charge, what might happen?

      @leakycheese  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +FerreusVir Hehe, crazy people are in good company on this channel mate!
      Kit size is a topic that does fascinate me: are Forge World kits indicative of the best quality that can be achieved when casting such large parts or is possible to do better? I've got the Boromite Matronite from Warlord Games to build and that is a decent sized resin model and I'm waiting on the Matilda tank from Victoria to look at as well but these are still only medium-small compared to the Forge World range.
      Prodos Games do a large resin model of the Cheyenne Dropship from Aliens which would be good to look at but I don't like the model enough to drop £150 on it (it has been re-proportioned and doesn't look right to my eye): shop.prodosgames.com/en/alien-vs-predator/261-alien-versus-predator-dropship.html
      I guess Forge World produce kits at the right level of quality for their business model. The lack of competition at the moment and huge draw of their IP means there isn't as much pressure on them to raise quality further.
      In terms of making videos like this I really enjoy doing it. I've got a nice way of linking my video output into the hobby work I'm going to do anyway so that's cool 😊

      I always enjoy watching your videos for GW/FW models. I sadly have to wait some time before FW publish it on their site.
      It annoys me that they mostly only release one new kit per week.
      Also would really like some up to date or new Death Korps and Elysian kits. And Auxilia kits.
      Sadly, that's mostly wishful thinking seeing as both the original sculptor of SA along with his replacement have left FW.

    great vid as always leaky, one thing though, when I personally do what you just did I keep the other piece on there just incase it tries to contract while it's cooling down. Other then that fantastic vid. I really do like the drop ship I might have to get one just cause....most of the custodies stuff I really enjoy except the plastic models. They needed capes, if they had capes I would be doing a custodies army and not a mechanicum.

    What flavour of cheese is it? Blue-vein? Camembert? Gouda? Do you prepare it with a cheese knife instead of a hobby knife? I need to know!

    • @leakycheese
      @leakycheese  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +The Outer Circle Well, if we talking starters at a restaurant I think Camembert, baked, with a cranberry sauce; or possibly a goats cheese with caramelised onion. When celebrating the New Year and the port and cigars are out I enjoy a nice Stilton.
      I don't normally use my scalpels to cut my cheese, it makes them smell and Mrs. Leakycheese complains. True fact.
      This dropship is as yet unknown for cheese categorisation. I'd expect gorgonzola-like properties on a machine like this but I hope the FW writers hold back from making another Stinking Bishop like the Telemon. The excessively pungent experimental rules for the Sicaran Arcus have got me worried here.
      Thanks for watching :)

    • @TheOuterCircle
      @TheOuterCircle 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll give you my educated guess,
      AV12 or even 13 all round, flare shielded, grav backwash special rule, power of the machine spirit, possibly arachnus 420 blaze cannons or even the same weapons on the hull as the Telemon dreadnought has for arms, and two twin-linked lastrum bolt cannons. Transport capacity of 30, and will cost... 25 points? Maybe 30 points at a stretch? Because "muh custerds is elite infentrah"

    • @leakycheese
      @leakycheese  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Outer Circle Not bad, I'd also add the ability to transport a palletised and folded Custodian Contemptor that the companions kick down the ramp when landing. Inflicts 2D6 Hammer of Wrath attacks on the nearest enemy unit with 6".

    • @TheOuterCircle
      @TheOuterCircle 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it goes without saying. It probably also has fast ropes for rapid infantry deployment so it can stay in zooming mode as it drops the emperor into the hearts of its enemies.

    • @leakycheese
      @leakycheese  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Outer Circle Anything less would be an epic fail for the Custodian's super-heavy transporter.
      I'm looking forward to the Emperor's personal Orion, the Golden Penetrator, which will have void shielding and an orbital strike uplink. Happy days!

      +Korran Orainn Indeed, I'll be pimping the interior of the Orion up for maximum lux points. I can't imagine those Custodes travelling in anything less than Maybach-like levels of luxury. Thanks for watching :)
