I think the reason the stand fights feel more meaningful here is because they almost always move the plot forward, which was a rare thing in early parts, especially 3.
Part 5 and 6 already kinda did that at times, but I do think SBR integrated them really well into the places where the characters were. An example is the 11 men, who just show up at a place Johnny and Gyro were already at, rather than being a roadblock to their next destination. There’s actually very few stands in part 7, especially compared to the earlier parts, it kinda helps each battle feel more special, cause each one is actually a significant drawn out road block. 2. This is I think the biggest reason why they’re so good. In the entirety of sbr, I believe there are only 3 or 4 humanoid stands? Which is excellent, because it means every battle doesn’t devolve into an ora ora rush, stand users that don’t have humanoid stands, straight up have to be extremely careful, cause they will straight up die if they’re not. A great example is true mans world. His stand ability is, while not superbly powerful compared to previous parts, it is REALLY strong in sbr. However…. He doesn’t have a humanoid stand. So, he had to become an excellent gunslinger to compliment his stand, cause without a decent way to defend himself, his stand would be almost useless in combat. And that’s why, the final love train fight is so good in my opinion, I believe the biggest issue for Johnny and Gyro wasn’t even love train, it was the fact that if they got too close, funny valentine could literally punch a hole into their chest if they weren’t careful. Heck Diego’s stand was arguably one of the most powerful stands in sbr, considering that the vast majority of stand users straight up wouldn’t be able to defend themselves, if a fucking VELOCIRAPTOR got into melee range. I see people saying its an alternate universe. But according to the narrative, SBR universe is the one true universe and the rest are sub universes. Part 8 is also connected to part 7 so the storyline kinda continues there. WOU might be the strongest stand ever since it is from SBR universe, and hence is tied to every universe by default. Best part about part 7 is that you don't have to read part 1-6 because that series is over even though its part 7 from this point onwards is a new series so people can start reading from 7 to 9 or 8. All you have to do is watch a recap video and understand what stands are and how they work.
hell naw part 1-6 should still be watched/read, there are way too many callbacks and references you’d miss if you don’t consume those first. even the littlest of things, like johnny’s pet being named danny, just like jonathans. or killer queen coming back. or rohan in part 9
What stood out in part 7 for me is how I was taken back to Jonathan's character development, which is fitting as Johnny is his alternate indeed. Personally, part 1 just felt too short for a proper story that I saw Zeppeli's death only as a justification for Jonathan to match Dio's power level after being given a good training arc, but it then seemed rushed. This was then quenched by Joseph's appearance in part 2 which also showed his character and strength development that's identical to Jonathan but in a more natural-looking way, without power transfer and all. Though I think the reason why lots of fans stuck to Joseph as their favorite was due to how this formula being almost non-existent in Parts 3-6 Jojos. So when I got to Steel Ball Run few years ago and saw that Johnny is starting out as powerless, I knew it was gonna be a wild ride and he'll be my favorite Jojo. Just didn't expect it to be my overall favorite part after finishing it lol.
when you were talking about funny valentine you mentioned that you can either see him as the protagonist or antagonist, and that just simply isn't correct, those two things do not equal good guy and bad guy, think of it more like protagonist=main character, and antagonist=opposing main character
Also Jojo is one of the rare series where I don't cringe at the character designs. I have a small unreasonably gripe when every important character looks like a generically good-looking anime boy/girl. But the characters in Jojo (especially part 7) are actually beautiful in a majestic way that I don't mind it. It sounds weird now that I type it out, but hey, Araki said himself that he likes to draw beautiful men so it's not TOO weird right?
As a fan of the Jojo's franchise because of the anime, and then moving on to the manga to catch up. I can confirm that Steel Ball Run feels like the perfect mix of all the previous parts and makes the perfect dish, plus the fact that being a little slower makes the characters feel more accessible to give their story and develop their arc as it should (like Johnny for example). For me, SBR cannot be described in words, it is an incredible and unique story to read, it feels more like a journey than a race, ironically lol. And to comment on something about Jojolion because I also read it after SBR, it is a good part and has many incredible moments, although at times the plot feels repetitive and tedious because it does not advance, but that does not mean that it is entertaining.
9:54 it was actually really needed for us to go against valentine more, as its understandable to do evil for the sake of the country and some may agree to some extent but the sexual exploitation of a 15 year old is downright horrid and a action that is unforgivable thus earning our hate of valentine
Great video! Just wanted to correct something that you said. At 9:38, you say that Funny Valentine can be seen as either the antagonist of the series or as the protagonist. While I understand what you mean, this is an incorrect way to use these terms. The protagonist is simply the character(s) the story follows, while the antagonist is usually the protagonist's main obstacle. What you're probably looking for are the terms Hero and Villain. The hero is simply the character we are supposed to root for, while the villain is the character we're supposed to root against. Otherwise, fantastic video! True man's world is still one of my favourite arcs in all of manga
True. I just genuinely like all the characters more. They are all tragic and flawed characters in their own way but the story really makes sense for their situation. I think all their goals really line up well. Also the antagonists like Risotto, and Diavalo both had realistic goals and the fights were all good.
Steel Ball Run is magnificent! From Setting to Themes it’s a work of art through and through! Of course I still believe that each part is better than the last in it’s own way, so that they all stand on the same level and stand out. Sure, that’s a bold proclamation, but the differences in each part make it so that it’s like each part is it’s own story, because it is. Jojolion was the best of bizarreness, it may’ve done some weird things at the end, but that’s fine! I can’t wait to see more Jojolands!
Ay, nice video dude. You earned a subscriber. Also, I did notice something, the background you used at 06:50 was made by me lol. I'm so happy that someone used it lol. Personally I enjoyed part 4 final battle way more. Just for the fact that Josuke has to solve multiple problems to overcome Kira, and the bite the dust arc was amazing. I think giving buffs to the antagonist makes it a lot more intimidating, but for part 7 giving gyro and johnny a very specific power just to beat Valentine was a pretty anticlimactic imo. With all that being said I still enjoyed part 7 all the way through it's just a final fight for me.
Josuke vs Kira is an insanely good battle. Right up there with MiH for final battles for me. Actually did not care for Love Train like, at all. Valentine being completely untouchable just killed the pacing for me and the pillars of light effect was kinda bland (except when the stands get really close, that part was hype). Break My Heart Break Your Heart was excellent though
4:01 I would say he toned down the bizarre ness of the body so that stuff like stands would be truly buzzard because there being people being able to summon there fighting spirits isn’t that bizarre when the people look like there on steroids 24/7 but if you make them more anatomically correct while giving more unique features (ex. Josuke’s hair) than the stands feel more bizarre as the world around from the outside looks more normal
While i do agree the jojo formula isnt for everyone i love tha fact that theyre always put in a seemingly impossible situation and then they usually use their intellect to find a way out. It makes it stand out to me as unique because it usually doesnt necessarily come down to a battle of strength like most anime but instead one of wit and on your feet thinking.
Suppose that you were sitting down at this table. The napkins are in front of you, which napkin would you take? The one on your ‘left’? Or the one on your ‘right’? The one on your left side? Or the one on your right side? Usually you would take the one on your left side. That is ‘correct’ too. But in a larger sense on society, that is wrong. Perhaps I could even substitute ‘society’ with the ‘Universe’. The correct answer is that ‘It is determined by the one who takes his or her own napkin first.’ …Yes? If the first one takes the napkin to their right, then there’s no choice but for others to also take the ‘right’ napkin. The same goes for the left. Everyone else will take the napkin to their left, because they have no other option. This is ‘society’… Who are the ones that determine the price of land first? There must have been someone who determined the value of money, first. The size of the rails on a train track? The magnitude of electricity? Laws and Regulations? Who was the first
@@mattress725but I actually really liked that. Because it’s the fucking 1800s, life is not fair, and terrible things happen to people who don’t deserve it. But the kid dying from a cold doesn’t take away from Gyro trying to save him, because I would argue that even if Gyro knew beforehand that the kid was guaranteed to die, he still would have tried to save him.
I mean, i feel why its such a superstar among the rest of this stellar series is purely mechanical. It switched from being in a shounen magazine to a seinen and became a monthly release. More of an adult audience and more time to create, better working conditions with less harsh deadlines create a higher quality work. If the norm of manga release was monthly or bi-weekly, we'd have higher quality of work in general and higher quality of life for all creators.
I think you can just really tell that Araki really knew what he wanted to do and understood his characters and where he wanted to go with them. I like the other parts as well obviously and like other characters too but something about how Johnny amd Gyro just are immediately captivated me. I'm also disabled myself so of course my favorite Jojo is the disabled one who acquired that in his early adulthood just like I did and now has to completely start all over again and find a reason to even live. Gyro is just one of these characters where I can't even put into words why i like them so much i just did from the second i met him. Part 7 is also one of the very few stories where I can't point to one single character and say they are fucking horribly written and just a waste of space. Even the tiny side characters have some purpose and something interesting to bring to the story.
one correction, Part 7 is not set in the same Universe that Emporio landed in at the end of Part 6, it's a completely different universe not connectected to the original one.
The only complained i had for sbr is a conplained i had for the entire jojo series is that the characters dead are sometime.... Weird? Like we get a good introduce to sandman as a good guy tried to win the race and save his land but ended up being an evil person that do everything to achieve his goal and then just die 💀without telling what happened after that?
I was so disappointed to see Sandman go out so soon. I thought that he would definitely end up being a JoBro - apparently Araki wanted that too but ultimately he ditched that idea to give Johnny and Gyro more cook time. I don’t mind most Jojo deaths, since they usually happen at the right time and hit the right way (except for Caesar and Kakyoin), but this one was particularly frustrating. Joseph and Lisa’s reaction sold Caesar’s death, and Kakyoin completed his arc before dying. Sandman? Coolest intro ever, can outrun horses, noble reasons to race, and ends up as Steely Dan. Just another (weak) villain of the week.

Yes it is, it the peak of fiction. There is no connected storyline whcih has the parts 1-6 and the JoJo universe which is shown in parts 7-9. The universe reset that Pucci did only applied to the part 6 characters, the storyline in parts 1-5 still happened. Good video though!
I'm pretty sure that Jesus wasn't confirmed to actually have a stand, his corpse parts perform miracles, and in the part Gyro himself said that the thing that makes a saint isn't what they do when they're alive, its the miracles they perform after their death, the miracles being mainly granting stands
Honestly the stands in part 7 lack "physicality". Tusk act 1-3 doesn't need to manifest as a creature when Johnny just shoots nails. It's just an ability and not a stand. Same with D4C, Civil War, In A Silent Way, Mandom. Some part 3 stands act as beings rather than just an ability. Hermit Purple doesn't just transfer information, it's also vines that can be used to swing. Dark Blue moon can summon barnacles, but also uses the fact it has scales as an attack. Hanged Man has his knife wrists, Sethan is a shadow, Star Platinum uses its lungs, fingers, eyes, like it's an actual person. A lot of part 7 stands just lack that which is disappointing

My style for years was based around Part 3 and 4, however very recently I decided to study the Part 7 style and my god it was the best decision I have ever decided to make because it improved my art significantly imo. This manga straight up changing my life out here.
Absolutely, that's been me with Part 8's artstyle, it's made me improve a lot better and fit an artstyle that I actually love to draw in
Just a little fact, Koichi and Johnny are the only people in the JJBA Universe having an Act type of stands. Echo and Tusk.
Fun fact: The Tusk act 4 beatdown is the first and final beatdown in the manga, this make it so much hype
I'm hoping to find where part 9 will go, might be the last part, and I am glad that I can go along with the journey since its inception, as a teen to my mid-twenties hopefully.
? did you reread your comment lil bro
@@wschtoriThe saint's corpse only exist in the sbr universe, when valentine jumps to another universe during the diego and hotpants fight we can see that the corpse was replaced with diamonds, and then in the final fight against johnny valentine brings a diego that has the world. For me this proofs that the first universe is not the original.
Go Beyond is the strongest stand since it beat WOU, but WOU is the 2nd most powerful for sure. I see that though
@@vittoriovenetov9655 while go beyond did beat WOU, this doesn't really make it more powerful as a stand because go beyond serves no purpose other than beating WOU
@idioticfetus I mean debatable but like Soft and wet go beyond is like one of the most powerful stand abilities and is just a genuinely powerful stand besides that
When I finished steel ball run ngl I went for a “walk”… I cried a little, 10/10 imo.
Same
A paraplegic who shoots his fingernails and an Italian cowboy who throws his balls around race across America to collect the scattered corpse of Jesus Christ in attempt to prevent the multiverse traveling president of the US from getting his hands on them first.
Instant classic.
Best way to put it
Part 1: Buff Rugby rich boy gets a stand called Burnt Down The house(lol) and fights a vampire.
Part 2: Buff boy beats the shit out of Aztec fucking oily gods because of his 2000 iq
Part 3: Buff boy with buff oily ghost hunts for a gay vampire with a timestopping gay ghost.
Part 4: Yusuke Urameshi gets a bob the builder ass ghost and kills a bombing catman
Part 5: A gay son of a gay vampire joins some gaybos and in his gay adventure he became a gangstar in a week and subjected a man to eternal torture.
Part 6: Car Crash, Moon Finger, Kissing Stickers, Gay Priest, Universe gone.
Part 7: Parapalegic guy shoots out nails with a slutty italian and stops mr president from collecting body parts that allows his to make a shield.
Part 8: Some lovers bred an amnesiac and he hunts a beanbag hair kid with the ability to make cars fly at you.
Part 9: Drugs
Best part about part 7 is that you don't have to read part 1-6 because that series is over even though its part 7 from this point onwards is a new series so people can start reading from 7 to 9 or 8. All you have to do is watch a recap video and understand what stands are and how they work.
Even though it’s a good idea to read/watch parts 1-6 to understand the story a bit better
1-6 may not be necessary plot wise but they are reccomended to trully appreciate SBR
Part skippers must be tarnished🤖
hell naw part 1-6 should still be watched/read, there are way too many callbacks and references you’d miss if you don’t consume those first. even the littlest of things, like johnny’s pet being named danny, just like jonathans. or killer queen coming back. or rohan in part 9
The mentor being a friend with the protagonist, the goofy moments they share, the epic battles and most importantly… SPINNING STEELY BALLS
“i’ll try not to spoil anything”
shows the world au on screen
"Jesus used a stand" alone deserves the 1st rating, the rest is just to sell better.
Stando tsukai
Except it doesn't say anywhere that he had STANDO POWAH. It was just the corpse of a saint, with whatever weird power comes _with that._
I bought volume 22 of Steel Ball Run coz it was the Tusk Act 4 fight and I can now officially say that I cant read japanese
I bought the first 2 volumes of SBR only to find out I can’t read Spanish
Also Jojo is one of the rare series where I don't cringe at the character designs. I have a small unreasonably gripe when every important character looks like a generically good-looking anime boy/girl. But the characters in Jojo (especially part 7) are actually beautiful in a majestic way that I don't mind it. It sounds weird now that I type it out, but hey, Araki said himself that he likes to draw beautiful men so it's not TOO weird right?
Zesty ahh series 🍆💀
Not only is it the best but it’s actually completed. Take that Berserk and Vagabond😂JK
😂😂

@@Ryan-oq8gy its still getting continued by his team though

You're forgetting the fact that when it's sunny outside, you can't see inside the building.
if part 5 was published as a monthly seinen , it had the potiential of being better than part 7 and subjectively i still like part 5 more
He'll no it was mid
True. I just genuinely like all the characters more. They are all tragic and flawed characters in their own way but the story really makes sense for their situation. I think all their goals really line up well. Also the antagonists like Risotto, and Diavalo both had realistic goals and the fights were all good.

part 5 is really good one of my favorite, but my #01 is part 7!!!! It was soo cool!!!
Araki cooked a goddamn masterpiece. Hopefully SBR gains more popularity when it's animated🤞
There is a super cool cowboy manga called Greenblood. I HIGHLY recommend!!
I've just started reading Steel Ball Run and so far I'd say that it deserves #2 spot, if not #1
Steel Ball Run is magnificent!
Initially, I made it as my desktop walpaper, but then I posted it to reddit, but I deleted it after a few days as I thought it wasn't that good. How did you find it tho??

Ah yes Divòrcé Love Train, gotta be my favourite stand
The real question is:
Why isn't it first?
Jotaro walkin into a church really be like: “ I sense an enemy stand user”
sbr is just a masterpiece araki is really goated i tried not spoiling it to my friends but i still did😭😭🙏🙏
Personally I enjoyed part 4 final battle way more.
Break My Heart Break Your Heart was excellent though
just the GOAT making a new MASTERPIECE 🗿🗿
i finished sbr 8h ago and now after some sleep im going to start finally part 8
same here, i've just have finish steel ball run and i will start soon jojolion
I loved the part where Jesus told a crippled guy to shoot himself
In my opinion steel ball run is my favorite part and a masterpiece
TRIGUN MENTIONED GRAAAAAHHHHH 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥WHO THE HELL IS THE HUMANOID TYPHOON🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Who was the first
Shory answer: Gyro is to masculine and awsome or the long answer: Writing and Jesus Christ casually in the part
you know what would be funny... if Jesus's actually name was josus and he was the first jostar in jojo history

FACTS
sad thing is the Kid Gyro trying to save the kid dying from cold.
dude i was fucking dying when i first finished sbr and read that lmaoo
@@mattress725but I actually really liked that. Because it’s the fucking 1800s, life is not fair, and terrible things happen to people who don’t deserve it. But the kid dying from a cold doesn’t take away from Gyro trying to save him, because I would argue that even if Gyro knew beforehand that the kid was guaranteed to die, he still would have tried to save him.
4:44 the name is in Spanish "oye como va" is a tito puente song.
6:20 yep i think the historical sets are 1° medieval 2° greek/roman 3° wester 4° 1600 pirates times
Correction, 1890's not 1860's, 1860's is around Johnny Joestar's birth.
the characters developments are above amazing, truly a masterpiece
Part 7 manga did explain what is it's world building around stands. You can skip to part 7 if you want to enjoy it.
You can't just give it an 8/10 after explaining how it is a masterpiece deserving of its spot next to Berserk and Vagabond
correction why tf is there a ranking through 1-to 8 while there is 8 completed parts of Jojo?
For me, Part 7 is absolutely the best part of all of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, closely followed by Part 2 and then Part 5.
yeah i have the same top 3!!!
I think part 6 ending universe was connected to part 7 timeline as we saw in jojolands morio mangaka artist still exist(i forgot the name)
No, it’s not. They are two seperate universes. This mangaka is just an alternate universe version like the new Abdul.
@mattgroening8872 just my bad theory bro dont take it seriously
Other anime westerns I’ve watched are desert punk, and gun frontier (I found gun frontier off a wiki page about western anime.)
Does Trigun count as a western? It has a lone, wandering gunman, and it's set in the desert. 👀
@@vlc-cosplayer yes in my opinion
one correction, Part 7 is not set in the same Universe that Emporio landed in at the end of Part 6, it's a completely different universe not connectected to the original one.
@@osmoticmonk most of the charater you don;t mind is because you don;t have empathy for them like would anyone feel empathy for ego Monster like kars or dio 💀 kira is fine the way is it diavolo is one side so no one care but pretty cool concept puchi is perfect valentine dead is also perfect executed amd for side characte like bucchi arako made that so you know and understand anyone so their dead won;t feel weird but it still so outboff place unesicery
Yeah sandman character assassination is the most major flaw of the story.
Sbr is stand alone but having read all the previous part is what makes it I can't believe I'm gonna say this but be par on par with berserk
No it’s the #1 baby, ITS PEAK
"wow cool horse racing manga with cool powers"
"funny valentine and scarlet scene"
Popularity of SBR in the west surprised me, it wasn't that loved around here.
