Well it's definitely a reason but not the reason, best example is jojolion. The part is great but not nearly as good as sbr, even tho it's the same format.
The change to a new magazine not change anything in Araki's writing. its publisher wanted the new series to change magazines to boost sales. It's only due to that. When you read SBR and the other parts you don't see any changes in the tone of the work. We need to stop with all these legends about SBR when it's just a good game like the others
the fight between johnny & gyro vs the eleven men was SO action-packed, it felt like i was watching a fast-paced gunfight in a movie even though i was looking at drawings on a page

I've been reading SBR over the past few weeks and it really is fantastic so far. I'm on chapter 28 currently, towards the end of the 2nd stage, after the first corpse part has been obtained and Tusk has been revealed.
In parts 3-6, I loved having stands, but that lead to a villain of the week format that sometimes drew out the story too long. Part 4 mostly sidesteps this by being more slice of life. But part 7 integrates them in a way that never felt too long to me, despite being the longest part at the time of it's conclusion. There's more of a sense of plot progression. I often feel like certain secondary characters in JoJo don't get enough time (once again, not true of part 4), but because part 7 is about a duo and others are solidly secondary, them not getting a ton of focus feels fine. And the deaths that happen are a bit more spread out. And generally, it just doesn't feel as juvenile while also being fun.
For me, when i read SBR for the first time, one thing I loved a lot was that in the background of all the Stuff that happens, theres the simple concept of The Actual Race going on and its this consistant driving force in the part layered underneath all the stuff with Johnny/Gyro, Valentine, the corpse parts etc, and so it created this great flow where no matter what was going on there was this underlying sense of direction, and the fact that there was a physical goal place to be, which eventually becomes almost like childsplay by the end of the part with all the stuff going on. But it really helped ground the part and kept it from being too "dense" to digest if you understand me. Also when I opened up the first chapter and I saw the first character introduced was a baller native american guy I knew the part was gonna hit different!
One of the things that keeps me going in life despite all the bad things in the world is eventually/maybe seeing SBR turn into an anime. But it’s such a high pedigree of manga story telling (particularly for Jojo) that if they messed up on it; it would be considered one of anime’s (and possibly Netflix’s) biggest sins!
here is what netflix could do to not ruin the hype, NOT RELEASE IT BATCHES, i dont care if it takes a little bit longer dont release it in batches, it should also release within the next 1-3 years, or else it will be forgotten
Part 7 is a good part like the others but it has flaws like the others. the problem is that it is the first part to have been translated in the United States which brought back a lot of toxic fans. For at least 10 years the SBR community was known for criticizing all other parties even if it didn't want them to be animated. Some people think that SBR is the best manga in the world. it's just a good game of jojo. Johny is not the best Jojo and Valentine is not the best villain. You have a few really good fights but that's it.
To paraphrase a quote from weather report/domenico pucci: “You’re the worst kind of evil, one that doesn’t know it’s evil!” That was why pucci was good, because he thought his actions and motivations were just and righteous. Funny valentine, on the other hand, had acknowledged that his actions aren’t always morally good but still believes that everything he does is for the greater good, no matter how evil. To take another quote: “My heart and actions are utterly unclouded. They are all those of justice!” He doesn’t care about the “good” or “evil” of what he does, he only cares about getting what’s “just”. Valentine both contrasts and coincides with Enrico Pucci and it makes him a better villain for it.
5:16 I literally jumped out of my chair when I heard the final sin into sandy city because I have never ever seen any other human being reference that song. That intro was burned into my head after my ultra nightmare attempts. Kaleb continues to be one of the goats of TH-cam.
I've had my gripes with this part, mainly for Araki making shortcuts such as Johnny knowing race being about the body parts or how The World works within 2 seconds but only reason I was able to forget it all was because of Gyro and Jojo's dynamic-- but mainly Gyro, he is a badass. This whole part reminded me of that one scene in Stardust Crusaders when Polnaref and Kakyoin did the handshake. I think it was also great to have "Hamon" as well as stands too, it added a lot of variety.
Thank you, I haven't seen anyone point out the World thing online. It threw me off so much because the crusaders had chapters dedicated to figure out what The World does and then Johnny automatically assumes it can stop time. Like bruh, poor Kakyoin didn't die for that.
@@ihatehandleupdate not just that it can stop time, he correctly guesses, with barely any knowledge, that its around 5 seconds. Even Joseph, with Kakyoin's deduction, didn't figure that out, and its passed off as something minor in SBR.
@@ProjektTaku I kinda feel like that za warudo cameo was unnecessary. Valentine was a good final boss, and I wouldn't have cried if we had a shorter segment with some regular racing instead of an asspull cameo just because
@@ihatehandleupdate I actually like it. I can understand why some people may not like it, as its quite fan servicey (seriously he has the exact same stand and performs the same moves), but it gives closure to George Joestar saying Johnny could never beat Diego, as he actually couldn't, but it didn't matter cause George was still proud of Johnny and Diego, quite literally, was defeated because of himself, cause he was too drunk on power. Plus at least its an alt world Diego, so SM Diego isn't revived and negates his death, plus it was kind of sad how little effect Dio's counterpart actually had in SBR, so it was a fitting end to the "Diego/Johnny rivalry" parallel.
I liked it! It didint hit quite as hard as I expected but I think thats me going in and expecting too much and being in a mood over SO and so done reading it. All the parts offer something in there own way and despite issues here and there(or personally in the case of SO a lot of things), I enjoyed them and have no regrets. SBR was a fun ride to be sure and worth the read!
I have to say that is genuinely SBR biggest flaw as of now with people overtalking it so much that there is somewhat too much of expecations. In terms of story itself it's not my favorite part but the use of Gyro and Johnny do make it well worth it and it has compelling parts. Will I say its my favorite-- probably not but I did enjoy it a lot its just the pressure that is placed on it now becomes hard to truly keep the expecations unless something like a western is up your alley.
Woah, I was the one who wrote that comment listing reasons people gave for not liking Part 5. I completely forgot about that, it's wild seeing that again and being snapped back to the past. Also, thank you for the segment talking about how SBR isn't the only well written part. That has always been one of the most frustrating things about discussions around SBR and JoJo in general. It's great to see a video that praises SBR while also go against that idea.
The panels are so damn good, he knows how to make sequential art come alive. The outfits are incredible so imaginative. The themes have u emotionally gripped. New incarnation of characters with a twist.stands become creative and even more bizarre. Characters are so bold, many memorable ones. Don’t even get me started on Lucy so brave and cunning with no stand.plus cmon it’s wacky races set in western with stand users looking for Jesus pieces how could that not be an epic adventure
For people who haven't read SBR yet, please mark your comment as a spoiler. I know the plot point is gone over early in the part, but I personally wouldn't mention it.
As someone who struggles to actually want to read manga, there's also a fandub with lots of love put into it on youtube which I love for allowing me to experience how fun SBR really is!
I li love part 7 because it’s his version of jojo because a lot of part 1 and 6 was changed due to editors and he finally made a part he wanted from start to finish
literally the opposite. parts 1,2,3 and 6 were planned by Araki and were done without improvisation. Part 7 is very improvised for example with the character of Sandman
Something I like about SBR is the tale of a guy against the world. SPOILERS FOR PART 7!! ------------------ From the start of things, Johnny hasn’t had the best life. He basically killed his brother by accident, mentally shattered by his father and was left as soon as he was put in a chair. It genuinely makes you hurt for the guy, even if you see him as the greediest Jojo. He ran an entire freaking horse race without legs. Even if he didn’t win, he still did better than most of the other racers. His development is good, because we’re growing along with him. We grow to love Gyro with him, we worry for him when hes hurt, and all that. That’s magnificent storytelling, I would say. Even as he lost his best friend, we weeped right along with Johnny. God, part 7 is so good. I’m gonna reread it soon.
Also spoilers Johnny realized he doesn't need to win at the end. before he could never beat Diego while his brother might've been able. His dad doesn't love him like he did his brother. But at the end his dad comes back before the race is even over. It was about the journey. He doesn't have to beat Diego or win the race for him to be adequate nor does he have to live up to his brother's legacy.
Spoiler Heh, a guy against "The World", i remember screaming like a 2000's girl listening to her favorite boyband when Za Warudo made its appearance at the end. It felt so much like fan service and i was all in lol
Part 7 is my second favourite manga of all time behind Berserk. It is such a human story with flawed individuals who are governed by their own principles. Some have their own desires while some extend to many other people. It is this genuine humanity and heart to the story which is why it resonates with me so much.
@@robotboy765 no definitely not like the other parts. i look at all the other previous Joestars and though they have flaws, all of them at the same time are ultimately selfless and just. But Johnny is easily the most flawed Joestar, driven by selfish motivations that only benefit him which is contrasted against Valentine's whose goals are more selfless. It's a complete inversion of all the tropes governing the previous 6 parts. Johnny is the most human Joestar because he is the most flawed and acts the most realistic out of any of them.
Just read the last chapter and i love this part. as a recent jojo fan who has just read part 7 i can definitely say this is my favourite for now. Looking forward to reading the next parts
what i think drives me the most is the second chapter of steel ball run,the very end sentence. " 'This story" is the tale of how i started to walk. Not in the physical sense... but in the adolescence to adulthood sort of way..after meeting that man,'Gyro zeppeli' who was full of mysteries from beginning to end. My name is Johnny Joestar." for me even if it was not a western its how the relationship of johhny and gyro grows to a level where gyro and johnny treat each other like strangers but at the end are treating each other how family would. i hope if sbr is animated they can live up to the manga. although part 6 is still my favorite part to date just due to much i liked fallowing around the main cast but for its own merits steel ball run is better in many ways too. I hope Hirohiko Araki the best if he ever moves into anything else then jojo's bizarre adventures and hope he can stay happy with with he works with and stays healthy. and for those who are reading this,i want to thank you a part of the jojo community for reading this and supporting araki's works.
Part 7 is the most consistent jojo part overall. While all Jojo parts have peaks that reach or at least get close to Part 7's peaks. The valleys of quality in each part aside from 7 fall much lower than SBR. While bits and pieces for something so long will drop somewhat in quality at points, but its by far the most consistent part. Also the art is actually Araki's peak, I can't deny. Its amazing.

Steel ball run actully made horse racing interesting, instead of just being a boring horse race Its got tons of plot twists and it fits in very well with The western theme

One of the best things SBR did no one mentions is make the "healing stand user" a side character. One we don't even see much. 4 and 5 both had absolutely no ability to make me care about anything because their mcs could heal anything short of death almost instantly. Girono could fix you up better than you were. Someone may say "but what about his uncle who died or whatever in part 4" He existed purely to give the illusion anything matters, clearly being brought up just to die so someone does
I very distinctly remember reading steek ball run on the bus on our big 5-day school trip while listening to Megadeth's duke nukem on repeat. beautiful experience
The way Araki illustrates the human spirit in part 7 for the lack of a better term. The main focus is character growth and how the characters within SBR express themselves when faced with a challenge or shortcoming. And how they approach all these challenges and setbacks is where these characters find their growth. And because Araki applies this theme to both the protagonists and antagonists, it creates this incredibly unique human epic/drama
I was happy to finally read part 7 last year and I loved it. No way any part could beat it until Part 8, imo. I loved Steel Ball Run but Jojolion was just my type of story, I love the mysteries and the Town of Morio is nice to revist. The characters all around are great and the main Jojo was so well thought out. Between him and Jonny I would probably choose Johnny in stand power and Gyro was a great 2nd main character. But the stand sot and walet go beyond was crazy even compared to Tusk act IV
one of my favorite things about jojo's is how opinions on parts can be so divergent...i also loved sbr, but getting through jojolion was such a slog for me! that being said, you're far from the only one i've seen say that they really enjoyed jojolion, which really is part of what makes jojo's so good to me. everyone gets something different out of every part

Recently, I've been binging JoJo's content on TH-cam and I've only ever read Part 1 (couldn't even finish it). Downloaded Jotaro's part (Part 3?) and the Star Dust Crusaders, it's been close to half a year now and I've still not watched past the introduction arc. I want to get into it, but I seem to always get disinterested whenever I make up my mind... I think it will be easier to get into Steel Ball Run tho... It seems to have the easiest to get into with its solid pacing and the premise of the story being rather simple with great character writing (from all the snippets I've seen). Hopefully, I can get into the JoJo groove after finishing this part, since it is its own story from a parallel universe to the main one.
I definitely enjoyed SBR when I read it, especially at climatic fights with Dio and Funny Valentine, and Jojolion is now my personal favorite Part of Jojo! Hope y'all also give Part 8 some love as well as Part 7 (both of them are good)! I can understand why it's hard to get into reading Jojo compared to watching it though (I know some friends that felt Araki's art style was hard to get used to because it can be overstimulating and detail-heavy, as well as SBR being very narative-heavy in some parts).
Those 60 page, text based chapters can definitely get a bit rough lol; but man, Jojo's is just such a ride when you're fully into it. Absolute fuckin peak fiction
@@72Null Yeah, part of me wonders how that would adapt in anime form, and here's hoping they find a clever way to work around those parts (having some narrative-heavy moments in some manga/novels can be okay, but it's something not easy to adapt into other mediums). 0_0
Also part 7 is the first jojo part to use something Else then just hamon or stands. Like spin and even People like sandmann is insanely quick despite not being a stand user.
It’s the part where Araki made sure that the _adventure_ was a journey. He often made sure that we knew where the character were at mentally regarding the fight they just had. Every fight matters to the plot or the character development because of that. Having only 2 main characters, 1 villains and a bunch of side character made that easier that having a large group of Jobros. He even reduced punch ghosts to focus on their powers.
So far, Steel Ball Run seems like the most consistent part of Jojo’s. I mean, it’s still bizarre, but it doesn’t feel like any parts got rewritten or changed or just weren’t planned.
lol it's literally the opposite. Part 7 is the part that has undergone the most changes such as Sandman's power, Valentine's design, his personality. The character of Hot pant was to be Johny's love interest for example. even Jesus was forgotten. part 1,2,3,6 are the only parts to have been planned from start to finish
As someone who quickly looses interest in most anime & manga due to their tendency to be generic trash, Steel Ball Run achieved what no other modern anime (except for previous parts) has: it feels like an actual adventure, with characters that grow, laugh, suffer, cry, fail, win and see themselves in a variety of situations, in the FOTM anime you'd have a generic teenager spending 20 chapters training to beat some other teen and see who is more invincible while some eye candy cheers him up on the background and then they'd just keep introducing characters that serve no purpose other than filler. In SBR most characters feel human because of their background and motivation and you never know who can be trusted initially or who is even capable of fighting, all while the characters are still on the move and they keep dying.
Gyro vs. ringo roadagain/mandom battle for me, is one of the craziest or, most ridiculous battles in manga. Tbh, that villain of the week could become a main antagonist maybe because of the weird ability or just some good writing
Yup, that's undebatable tbh. I would have liked to have heard some more of the gripes. LIke some dropped thinks, like Sandman or the borderline stuff with Lucy. Personally, I do think I appreciated it and enjoy it for its merits, but overall, I was a bit let down with some plot decisions. Since you spoke on Valentine, I'd say, he is intriguing and has an aura, but he boils down to another character who wants control. I feel his whole theory of the napkin was almost interesting but was missing something. Maybe the translation didn't do it justice, but I think it was a bit weak. If we had had more detail about how he views the world in relation to how the Corpse can help him, what it would grant him, in detail, I think we'd have a bit more of an intriguing point of view that we can muse on. He really does not feel that patriotic to me as is either. He says he is, but that does not translate at all. Seems like a thinly veiled lie. If we'd seen him actually rally people around him out of their love for the country, perhaps it would make sense. It's just an excuse he uses when talking to others. It's not that believable. I thought other vilains were more interesting. He was interesting to me when he did not seem that much of a threat, with all his henchmen and his small stature. A sort of person that is unattainable, super guarded. Like a mafioso. His bodyguards were dropped like nothing by Lucy and that kinda broke the whole idea of this unreachable man. The story needed just a bit more judicious choices imo. Even though it was entertaining, pretty much throughout, it could have used just some tweaks for all these elements put in the plot to shine a bit more.
Bro sbr is gonna benefit so much from the anime when it comes out. Sbr is my favorite jojo part, but I can’t lie the spin and some of the other stands are complicated to read sometimes. This part will benefit greatly from just being animated and having motion
Main universe is over and Araki was thinking bout what happens next after he completes JJBA, so now, he can do anything with JJBA, SBR and what comes next is a reimagining of JJBA or smth like that.
Why people like steel ball run: artwork, characters (valentine mostly), setting (cowboys are cool), part 7 is also easy to pick up because it’s a full reset with only a few references so you can just relax and not be like part 8 where you have to read a 100 page essay of exposition, I still like part 8 more but part 7 is very good
i have a personal head cannon that johnny had been able to walk since he combined with the corpses spine but it wasn’t until he got over his crippling depression that he was able to stand up and move
Steel Ball Run kept its cast tight so the characters have better chances to shine and carry loads of depth. The overall story uses the Steel Ball Run race as a means of progressing the story. The further Johnny and Gyro travel, the more they learn about themselves, the race, and who organized the race. Both significantly grow from their adventure, they triumph and share in the sorrows as the race progresses. The villains and antagonists are equally compelling and have their own goals that they've set out for the race. The powers and techniques used in the story are wild and tell a lot about the characters who use them.

Hot pants, sandman, and Wekapipo shoulda got more time imo.
Part 7 is the most improvised part with the most plot hol. It's a good part but it's the least consistent
Part 5 and 7 are my favorite parts, especially the unique designs, story and characters, lastly stands
I love how you answered the first question in the title itself like obviously it doesn’t need thinking 🤣🤣🤣
No
@@72SinSaesbr has been around for 19 years has it been forgotten?
@@RDC367 nah i guess thats true, but ive seen anime only's drop the show because of how long it took for stone ocean to release
To paraphrase a quote from weather report/domenico pucci: “You’re the worst kind of evil, one that doesn’t know it’s evil!”
That was why pucci was good, because he thought his actions and motivations were just and righteous.
Well because JoJo haters exist and Part 7 is the only thing that brings them to their knees
@@robotboy765u just said what I said with extra steps
I mean. Part 7 is a part which was very improvised. Many change like sandman's power ou valentine's design and personality.
Something I like about SBR is the tale of a guy against the world.
SPOILERS FOR PART 7!!
------------------
From the start of things, Johnny hasn’t had the best life.
Also spoilers
Johnny realized he doesn't need to win at the end. before he could never beat Diego while his brother might've been able. His dad doesn't love him like he did his brother. But at the end his dad comes back before the race is even over. It was about the journey. He doesn't have to beat Diego or win the race for him to be adequate nor does he have to live up to his brother's legacy.
@@thatsjustcolin3208 Well said. I’m happy we see eye to eye on how good a character Johnny is.

Heh, a guy against "The World", i remember screaming like a 2000's girl listening to her favorite boyband when Za Warudo made its appearance at the end.
This 100%. Berserk and SBR are the closest thing to peak fiction in my opinion.
I love SBR, but it doesn’t come anywhere near Berserk imo, or any of the previous JJBA parts
@@FadedPhoenixYT the Sopranos >
Literally like all the other part
I wish I could read this manga for the first time again
Donald J Valentine will always be in my heart as one of my favorite manga villains
NO FUCKING WAY I JUST SAW AN AD THAT HAD A SPONGEBOB HORROR GAME OF YOU BEING SQUIDWARD AND SHOOTING UP KIDS LOL
Part 8 art better but so many people just stopped reading after sbr

Everything comes together so well. You need the other parts to understand that.
Steel ball run actully made horse racing interesting, instead of just being a boring horse race Its got tons of plot twists and it fits in very well with The western theme

The Undertale music in the background near the end made my autistic heart happy. Two of my special interests lol
I feel like SBR was destined to be my favorite part
1 it came out on my birthday
2 i read the part when i actually turned 19 and loved it
3 i was able to see myself in johnny aa being forced to mature in difficult situations
This is the part that i love the most but i can never reread it as it wont feel as special since this was one of the few managas i couldnt speed read i took the most time to actually read and understand the narrative
One of the best things SBR did no one mentions is make the "healing stand user" a side character. One we don't even see much.
4 and 5 both had absolutely no ability to make me care about anything because their mcs could heal anything short of death almost instantly. Girono could fix you up better than you were.
Someone may say "but what about his uncle who died or whatever in part 4"
He existed purely to give the illusion anything matters, clearly being brought up just to die so someone does
I very distinctly remember reading steek ball run on the bus on our big 5-day school trip while listening to Megadeth's duke nukem on repeat. beautiful experience
Part seven is one of those few manga where I’ll end up reading it for hours and not notice
Hell yes
Battle Tendency and Steel Ball Run are my favorite arcs

Good shit 🤘
Im just exited to see the world alternate universe animated bro
The way Araki illustrates the human spirit in part 7 for the lack of a better term. The main focus is character growth and how the characters within SBR express themselves when faced with a challenge or shortcoming. And how they approach all these challenges and setbacks is where these characters find their growth. And because Araki applies this theme to both the protagonists and antagonists, it creates this incredibly unique human epic/drama
I'm still waiting for the adaptation of the anime to be announced.
To me, SBR is nothing short of a masterpiece.
Lol, just a good jojo part like the other
I was happy to finally read part 7 last year and I loved it.
I finished SBR two weeks ago, peak literature, I liked that almost every antagonist or rival had a well-established backstory.
Steel ball run feels like a Tarantino movie

It's really hard to talk about Steel Ball Run without spoiling anything. I'm a few months late, but my man, you did damn good job of it.
The greatest piece of fiction ever written
Facts, it will break the shit out of those pride of Anime Haters
Nah dude the final diego fights sucked ass lol
@@72Null
Yeah, part of me wonders how that would adapt in anime form, and here's hoping they find a clever way to work around those parts (having some narrative-heavy moments in some manga/novels can be okay, but it's something not easy to adapt into other mediums). 0_0
Also part 7 is the first jojo part to use something Else then just hamon or stands. Like spin and even People like sandmann is insanely quick despite not being a stand user.
SBR is one of the first mangas I’ve ever read and it is beautiful in every possible way
It’s the part where Araki made sure that the _adventure_ was a journey.
Peak fiction raw swag is the perfect way to describe SBR
So far, Steel Ball Run seems like the most consistent part of Jojo’s. I mean, it’s still bizarre, but it doesn’t feel like any parts got rewritten or changed or just weren’t planned.
lol it's literally the opposite. Part 7 is the part that has undergone the most changes such as Sandman's power, Valentine's design, his personality. The character of Hot pant was to be Johny's love interest for example. even Jesus was forgotten. part 1,2,3,6 are the only parts to have been planned from start to finish

Filthy Acts were done At A Reasonable Price.
Phantom bloods better
You have me in your thumbnail it looks pretty neat.
I’m being honest: we are not ready for an anime adaption, nor are we worth it 🙏🏻
yes🗿
and also the most beautiful part
i believe part 7 is trully the peak his of arts
Have to say kudos on managing to talk about SBR like this without spoiling anything.
Gyro vs. ringo roadagain/mandom battle for me, is one of the craziest or, most ridiculous battles in manga. Tbh, that villain of the week could become a main antagonist maybe because of the weird ability or just some good writing
I used to think its overrated but when i read it it was really worth

just finished it today, 10/10 part, idk if its my favorite tho, part 2 hold a special place in my heart
I just finished Steel Ball Run 5 minutes ago and I want to cry so bad
Main universe is over and Araki was thinking bout what happens next after he completes JJBA, so now, he can do anything with JJBA, SBR and what comes next is a reimagining of JJBA or smth like that.

I love the villains in Part 7. Dudes like Catch the rainbow and ringo roadagian are just fucking AMAZING

Very good video!!! Just finished sbr pure peak im totally stunned
The powers and techniques used in the story are wild and tell a lot about the characters who use them.
top 5 reasons why SBR is the best part:
1. gyro is fucking insane
2. the president is fucking insane
3. the concept is fucking insane
4. westerns are fun
5. the plot is fucking insane
I think if you want to only have the understanding of stand, I think you just should watch it at part three and four because those two are the ones who give you like the more finding details about how stands are the manifestation of your soul and a characters that might come up in recent parts of JoJo and if you don’t care about like vampires are ripple about watching part three and four
