Every Christmas Dan’s Christmas music plays in our home. The beauty of this song and his singing cuts me deep each time I hear it. Thank you Dan for this great gift!
RIP Dan Fogelberg you are truly missed I think this was a great album and a great rendition of In The Bleak Midwinter my Dad bought this album and this really changed my life.
Love that this was written by others over 115 years ago and is covered so very well by Mr Fogelberg. Only he could do this lovely song the clear Justice that he has ! Ever the consumate professional combined with the rare love of a sentimental man for a gift to our Lord. Very, very beautiful ! Achingly and Hauntingly so ! Ever On !
This song just wraps its arms around you, like our father in heaven does. Just as he wrapped his loving arms around all those lost that dat at Sandy Hook. Again, you have touched our hearts with your ways that you put the music, photos, and that peaceful touch!
+heehawluck1 Until hearing this version from the awesomely great Dan Fogelberg I thought the Paul Colman Trio had done the best cover of this wonderful Christmas hymn.Dan's is profoundly, achingly superb. Taken from us sadly nine years ago, may this under-appreciated artist be in God's heavenly realm when we are all called home.
@@ciarraibuzz I prefer this version.. it seems more like Dan Fogelberg means it. He takes it very slowly and there’s almost a “cry” in his voice. It makes me very emotional. I really like James Taylor’s version too, though. And The Moody Blues! (Justin Hayward)
Thank YOU, JMEagle 101. My children (2 boys- -Ha! men!) are 38yrs. and 35yrs. old now :), both in Colorado, Boulder, and "The Springs". Matty, my younger son, just called me with "Thanksgiving" wishes from him and his girls. Remy (6yrs.) and the "twins" Amelia and Ashley (4yrs). And during the conversation, he told me how grounded he and his older brother (David) have always been and thanked me. Truthfully, Dans music got me through times I NEVER thought I was capable of, and I still play
Thank you for posting this lovely video! So calming in these uncertain times. Jesus told us "In the world ye shall have tribulation. But be of good cheer, I have overcome the world!" (John 16:33). Tribulation *shall* come, but rest in Jesus, LORD of the Sabbath. Come, LORD Jesus, Prince of Peace! Disclaimer: That sweet, peaceful little baby, He will bring a sword to those who reject His authority, so His peace can only bless those who accept Him as LORD & savior or their souls.
One of the most truly beautiful performances of a song ever breathed out by a man, and you, JMEagle 101, have captured the spirit of the performance in the way only you can do. Particularly touching is the placement of the photos of Dan, just the right pose in exactly the right place. Thank you so much. I hope many people will enjoy the blessings of this song during this special season, through your video.
This is a hymm, its in the old Anglican Hymm book it is a 19th century Christmas carol based on a poem by the English poet Christina Rossetti . Dan's rework is moving and I think the music is original. my favourite carol since it was released.
"Dan's Painter" brings a beautiful and moving video for us to enjoy in the holiday season. Thanks Bill, we've missed your artistry my friend.....have a wonderful holiday!
him almost every day. I have ALL the albums, but funny, the ones I have, from when the times were the hardest, and lonliest, and the bleakest, are still my favorites- - strange, huh? As fate would have it, both David (Paigea daughter at C.U.) and Matt are raising their girls by themselves, like I did 33yrs. ago. Their wives left, and left their children with the fathers like their mom did. I thank God I had BOYS!! Ha! All is well here in Idaho!! Thank-you again, HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all!
My dear friend, your video inspired me, you introduced this heavenly music to me. This past Sunday morning, I woke up, and I was humming the melody of this song, I only knew it's in Dan's Christmas CD, it must be a Vision inspired by Lord, so I created the video draft that morning and shared it with my Sunday Bible Class and encourage them "I will give my heart". That night, I fine-tune the video and uploaded it to share it to the world, Merry X'mas to you and all, Praise The Lord Jesus Christ,
Only God can know if Dan had a spiritual awakening before he passed. I have always felt that Dan awoke the spirit in all that listened to his beautiful timeless music.
i wouldn't apply this song to a school shooting or just one thing. this song should belong to everyone to interpret in their own way. and this version is the best of all time in my opinion
If you look at the song info, I believe all of the info referencing track 15, should actually be changed to track 14, since there is no track 15 on "The First Christmas Morning" album. Track 14 is "Christ, The King".
Rest In Peace, Dan. So damned sad, and what a loss to the world of music. How I the hell can anybody say they don't like his rendition? Must be atheists.
What album is this on? I have five of his early albums, and he seems to be singing in a lower register here. I like this simple arrangement. I have 14 other versions in my "In the Bleak Midwinter" playlist. Thanks for the upload!
This is from Dan's all-but-forgotten 1999 CD "The First Christmas Morning". If you like this track you'd like pretty much the whole disc, as the whole project had a medieval/Renaissance flavour to it...
I play his Christmas album every year. It leaves me in tears just by the beauty of his words & sound.

Love this song. Never heard it until I heard Dan's version. Just beautiful. Such a talented man, gone to soon. 💔
My favorite religious hymn. Absolutely spellbinding sung by Dan Fogelberg. He was such an amazing artist.
I am a huge Dan Fogelberg fan and I have never him sing this beautiful Christmas song. He wa so talented. He is gone too soon.
I remember this on the CD. I would play it over and over in my business.
It is beautiful and Dan brings it to life. May he rest in peace.

Amen. Gone way too soon. :(
So sad to lose this Icon of music...the world's loss
Such a beautiful rendition of a great older hymn. Underappreciated album from a grrat musician. RIP Dan.
we all miss Dan, hope he can have a happy life in the heaven
P.S. Dans voice was as smooth as silk in this song! Sweet honey pouring over our souls.
Just love his music, the passion comes through loud and clear! Just beautiful!

I've never heard a version that comes even close to this one. It is perfect. x

I love Dan Fogelberg, but James Taylor's version is my favorite of the two.

I am crying...how beautiful. ...lovely....god have mercy and bless us all....especially,all,the children who leave too soon....
Amen to that Margret. x

The original was just a poem. This melody is by Holst, 1905 but there may have been earlier settings in the 19thC.
Jean, love to you and may Our Creator also watch over all those little angels from Sandy Hook who survived and help them to deal with healing.
This is a lovely version. Thanks Dan.

I think Dan had a spiritual awakining when he found out he didn't have much longer to live....glad he did...

What the heck??!! How is it that this video was published in honor of that tragedy over two weeks before it actually occurred??
