Here’s the thing Pierre... I bought a ukulele 8 years ago and couldn’t figure it out but quarantine has washed up a lot of abandoned hobbies. I made it a minute and a half into a tutorial on a particular song I will most certainly butcher before I realized my fingers are not trained for the baffoonery that is the B minor chord. Did I cry? Only a little. But it’s 1am and this is no place for quitters so to TH-cam I went and here I am... tears dried and fingers ready to annihilate this song with complete confidence in my new killer b minor chord 💁🏻♀️ am I a pro yet? No. But you are invited to my virtual concert where I’ll be playing the chord b minor on repeat bc as of right now that is all I know. Thank you for your service, sincerely, a musically challenged insomniac 💕

@@PierreHacheMusic I'm trying to play Billie Eilish's Six Feet Under song after I thought I could play At My Worst by Pink Sweat$ as the first cover. However I was discouraged on the second song (six feet under) because I couldn't quite hit the Bm chord. Now I'm so grateful and glad I saw your video and it really helped me a lot thank you 🙌❤️
Ahhh thank you so much for this video! I’ve come to the conclusion that my fingers are simply too thick and short for any song with this chord but you telling me it’s okay to play it without the fourth finger and giving me other options have made me happy and hopeful again.
May the god of music bless you 🙏 I hated the traditional Bm I am having a difficult using it on Close to you lyrics but now I found another way thanks to you.
Thanks so much Pierre. I could make each string ring clear when using 2nd fret with finger 4 on A, finger 3 on E, and finger 2 on C string.:) Much appreciated. Now to see if you have an easier way for me to learn the difficult E chord ....
Aw thanks!! So glad this helped. And yes I have an E chord video too! :) th-cam.com/video/ofVBUpYJw_Q/w-d-xo.html thanks so much for watching and trying this stuff out!!
This is a great video. It’s also the only clear video I found on how to find an alternative to this wretched and evil bar chord. I have arthritis in my left pointer finger, I needed you! 🤘🏽 Rock on!
interesting... I find it easiest to do it the traditional way - the supposed hardest way. I'll elaborate, in case it helps anyone: I lay my pointer finger/1st finger straight on all 4 strings on the 2nd bar, pressing slightly on it with my middle finger for extra stability. I basically lay it ontop of the 1st finger, during B-minor. The second-to-last finger/3rd finger goes onto the first string/G-string on 4th bar. It feels very comfortable to me. Keeping the 3rd finger away from strings is way too much effort. In a way, i am using two fingers as an almost effortless barre. The middle finger can still support the pointer finger when holding the second string/C-string on 3rd bar, for playing B-major. I've always played it like that, seems logical and feels natural, to me at least.
Holding a full barre on the 2nd bar is basically the Bm7 chord, if i'm not mistaken. Holding that barre and placing the 2nd finger onto the 2nd string/C-string on the 3rd bar gives B7. Holding that barre and placing the 3rd finger onto the 1st string/G-string on the 4th bar gives Bm. Holding that barre and placing the 3rd finger onto G-string on 4th bar, 3rd finger onto 2nd string on 3rd bar, gives the B major chord. That's how i've played them...
Thank you SOOOOO much for making this video. I am new to playing the Ukulele. I am trying to play cords that sound well together. The Bm was a new one. And my short stubby fingers was not having it. I even tried going over the top (like Jimi Hendrix). That was an epic fail. But then, thank the TH-cam Gods for your video on how to play it other ways. Now my Bm sounds crisp and clear. :-D
@@PierreHacheMusic Some E cords are challenging that need the pinky stretch. I'm always amazed that little kids can fluidly float from one cord to the next. LOL I've been playing my new B cords easily now. Thanks a bunch!

This was very helpful, after seeing your suggestions I thought about strumming a faster song it might be difficult to only play 3 strings while barring them however if we moved our finger up just a bit to mute the 4th string we could strum all 4 strings still producing a Bm. Thank you so much, i read another comment about someone shying away from songs with Bm because of the difficulties and I was guilty of that also. Well not anymore. 😊
Hi David! Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment. And yes, I agree a downside of such a `hack`is that it can be awkward to strum only three strings quickly. Muting the top string with your left hand is a great solution. Another downside is that it will sound a little thinner, (3 notes vs 4 notes) than most chords. It's a great way to get through songs with Bm to start, but I also suggest having the more long term goal of nailing the full barre chord shape as well. So glad you found this helpful!! Thanks again!
As a total beginner apologies if this next comment sounds a little ignorant. But how are most of these Bm chords alternatives to the traditional Bm if they sound higher. They may be the same chord name but completely impractical if they don't work in the arrangement of a song.
Thanks for your question paul! They are made up of the same notes, just in different positions on the uke. So they will work in songs, wherever you see Bm. Some just might be easier for you to play. The notes may be higher, but are still the 3 notes found in a B minor chord. Similarly, there are many C notes on a piano, guitar or ukulele, just at different octaves. They sound lower or higher, but are still called C. There are MANY ways to play every chord. They may sound different, but will still work in the progression. Try it out! :)
Thanks for the easy 3-string version of Bm, which is extremely close to fingering for a D chord. Is there an easy way to convert a G/C guitar chord (frets one & three-4 top strings only D G B E)into a G/C ukulele chord-or some chord that is very similar in tone? Thank you for your videos!
Hey James! Thanks for the comment! Glad you're digging the videos. More on the way... they're a ton of work! :p I THINK what you mean is like 0013, tabbed top to bottom on a guitar (DGBE). Which sounds awesome btw. A similar sound on uke would be: 0233 A more exact replica of the voicing, though more high pitched, would be 7-7-8-10, with bar at the 7th fret. Hope that helps! If I don't have it, feel free to tab the chord like i did so I can adjust ;) thanks again! cheers!
Thank you so much for this gleam of hope and a very clear presentation :-) I am a beginner so it maybe be stupid what I am going to say next but how about changing fingers when playing the traditional way? I tried it yesterday and it worked fine, at last ;-). I turned my hand another way round using my pinkie to press to top string and fingers 1,2,3 to press, separately, the barre (my index just doesn't seem strong enough to press more then 2 strings correctly so I have trouble with all barre chords and sometimes cheat using the the 3rd finger or pressing it over the index). Anyway thanks a lot, I am going to subscribe :-) Vous êtes français, non?
