      Strumming and finger picking is all very well if you can sing. Without the melody it's a nonsense. I need a tab with single notes and chords for the melody as my voice sounds like a cat with its tail caught in the door! 🙄

    Hey @LaraMarkowitzMusic! This is really nice. I think you’ve just helped me make the jump to ukulele. I’m a guitar player at heart (and there’s a long way to go still with that), but a ukulele makes a lot of sense when traveling by plane. I followed this by clamping a capo on my guitar at the 5th fret and it’s been a charm. There’s the issue of the octave not matching on the resultant g string, but that’s pretty minor. What’s really unexpected is that I’ve been working on Pink Floyd’s Learning to Fly and that works out almost seamlessly on ukulele. Looks like ukulele will also inform guitar playing.
    Subbed!

    • @LaraMarkowitzMusic
      @LaraMarkowitzMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Patricia, I think you may be asking if the upstrum includes all 4 strings? If so, all 4 strings create the complete chord, however, it's ok if you only catch 2 or 3 strings on the way up before the next downstrum. Upstrums become easier and more consistent with practice over time. That's wonderful that you're learning with your grandson! 😊

    Hi! I noticed that your 4th string sound way different than mine. I saw yours is a tenor uke (and I think mine is concert) but I understand the standard ukulele tuning is G/C/E/A, even for tenor sizes. Can you explain me which tuning do you have in this video and if I need to change anything in relation to that? :)

    • @Y0BDaeD
      @Y0BDaeD 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's weird, the chords fingerings are correct for a concert uke, but the top string does sound lower than the next one. I guess it's just dropped an octave lower?

    • @LaraMarkowitzMusic
      @LaraMarkowitzMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I'm using GCEA tuning and I'm using a low G string rather than a high G. Here are the strings that I use for my tenor: amzn.to/2AHd6hQ If you're interested in trying out a low G, Aquila also makes a low G string for concerts. I love the sound of the lower notes compared to traditional high G tuning and it provides more options for fingerstyle melodies. Thanks for the question! :)

    • @alexsotodigital
      @alexsotodigital 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LaraMarkowitzMusic You just blew my mind! I definitely want to get a low-g for my ukulele, but now I am confirming that it is baritone (and I am not finding many options). Any recommendation? Thanks in advance. :)

    • @alexsotodigital
      @alexsotodigital 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can I put a Low-G on it from a Tenor?

    • @LaraMarkowitzMusic
      @LaraMarkowitzMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexsotodigital Baritone ukes typically use non-reentrant DGBE tuning, so if you use standard baritone tuning then the tuning on your strings will be from low to high, similar to mine but starting on D rather than G. You could follow this tutorial with that tuning, you'll just be in a different key. Also you can use a capo to create GCEA tuning. Some people do tune their baritones to GCEA with a low G so it's something you could try. I'm not sure about putting a tenor low G on a baritone...you may want to check with a music shop ;)

    Hi Lara, the Em is actually an E chord (or E7) in both Leonard Cohen's and Jeff Buckley's version. (Definitely not E minor, you hear the harmonic scale tone G# leading back to A there very clearly)

      @LaraMarkowitzMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, E7 sounds great as well. Thanks for the note! 😊

      Hi Ronnie, in the playback toolbar at the bottom of the video, bring up the “settings” icon. In the menu that appears, click “Playback speed.” In the “Playback speed” menu, you can select a speed anywhere between 0.25 times and 2 times the speed, including a custom value within that range.

    Today I found myself cutting the nails on my left hand down because I hit several stings at one time. The G and the E are hard to do! It has helped a little bit I think the rest is just practice.
