This is actually what I'm doing now: learning digital drawing and design for POD and KDP. It takes time, but I´m improving. If someone have told me two years ago that I would be able to draw things on my iPad and be willing to put them in front of people in my own name I wouldn't believe it. I didn't even know two years back that I have a little talang in drawing. The practice and interest made me realize I CAN draw. So, just find your thing and you will be surprised!

I totally agree with this - I love writing, narrative design, tabletop game and telling stories - I'm just trying to figure out how to turn that into digital products alongside my freelance services (writing, narrative design and some video editing).

so i think everyone has the opportunity but i don’t think everyone has the power. not everyone will take advantage of the opportunity even after seeing it whether it be because they’re not in the correct position to do so or because they’re just simply not interested in the work. As you said, you do need to really enjoy the process or you’re not going to be successful. The most successful people are usually not doing it for the money

Oliur, there are many people who make things and post it online. The trouble is acquiring customers (w/o a built in audience), seeing the cost of acquiring a customer is increasingly costly post iOS14. Honestly not everyone wants to put their face out there, any advice there?

Maybe a hot take but i've been developing my skills over the past years and these videos always motivate me to create digital products which I have done but it hasn't been worth it at all. Minus taxes, platform fees (like Etsy fees) and ad fees there's nothing to show for and isn't profitable at all. I feel like timing is very important too, the prime time for digital products has passed. Everything is readily available by other top sellers. Sure if you think of the next best thing you may be successful but realistically, for how many people will this be the case? Not many i.m.o.
Wouldn't you say there are other factors too? Like what kind of product? The competition? What separated you from the competitors etc?
i feel like you're missing a lot.
You're not magically just going to get sales you need to promote it, there's also factors of what product you're selling, what market are you selling too, are you making something simple like a bracelet or are you creating custom furniture that has 100's if not 1000's of hours sunk into it. (you said etsy thats why im using this type of product for example) also there's the factor of is your product even good, is it overpriced, etc. i know that can be hard to hear, but your product just might be shit or massively overpriced. take a hard look at it, maybe put videos up, ask for feedback in forums and see if it is any good.
If people like it than make a tiktok and cross post to TH-cam short and even IG. Grow an audience around the products so that you have people to buy the products. hell in this last month i've gained over 2k subs on youtube and 2k followers on tiktok just from posting random clips of my riding, i haven't even posted anything i'm proud of yet and i still have been able to grow an audience. if your product is good people will come.
@@NoHope_ I did mention digital products, not physical. I'm not experienced in physical products so I can't say much about it. Of course you are partially right. But I feel like channels like these and others mostly highlight the 'easy' money making through online products which don't require additional effort or work after creating them and can make you 'passive' income. Stuff like templates, color LUTs, print on demand, etc. Those are the products I mean. The margins are minimal. Every type of LUT or template is already available by top sellers driving the price down because they sell a lot, so they can. I can't compete with people selling 50 variation LUT packs for 3 dollars, minus tax, etsy listing fee, etsy VAT fee, etsy ads fee, that leaves a profit of a few cents if anything. Same goes for any digital product. It's been done, it's available and you'll end up spending all your money on promoting and advertising whilst not seeing anything in return.
Of course things are easier when you have an audience but that's a whole project in itself requiring a lot of effort and time, but nobody mentions that. What I basically meant is that the prime time of being a 'nobody' selling digital products online, being in the first top 10 to do so, being the first in your niche or whatever, is done.

I didn't do any advertising whatsoever. Sales come from Tumblr's theme garden, where my themes are located. When a person signs up for a Tumblr account they can choose a free theme or a premium theme. Simple as that.
