You are probably talking about IL-2: 1946. That's pretty much IL-2 1.0. (I played a lot of that back in the day, too). The new version is two or three generations newer. It's frequently called IL-2: Great Battles series, or just IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad (since that was the first "module" released). The new ones are all kind of interchangeable, and combine together nicely to form one massive game. And includes VR support! :)

This was high-tension. I’m the only one of my mates who’s enamoured with combat aircraft; I cannot understand how anyone is NOT. My girlfriend is into cars-high-performance automobiles-so I thought, “Well, if she likes cars, she’s gonna LOVE fighter planes.” I linked her a couple of my favourite GR missions-some real white-knuckle missions, to me, even as a SPECTATOR. She was, and I quote “bored.” I don’t understand this at all. I didn’t even bother arguing, because her perspective is so alien to mine that I didn’t even know where the battleground for the argument would be. I know I’m a fanatic; my original aspiration was, in fact to join the U.S. Air Force (I’m a Manc expat; lived in the States since age 7.); however, I was disqualified for high-altitude flight because of an eye surgery I had when I was 8; I had an autoimmune disease that had attacked my iris. My vision is perfect-in fact, better than most-however, the surgery to repair the damage had weakened my cornea, which now, apparently, has a very low chance-but a chance, nonetheless-of DETACHING in a low-pressure environment. Anyroad, there was one reason I wanted to join the Air Force, which was to fly fast jets, so when I had that I went into a very, very different profession: audio mixing in a recording studio for an independent record label. The path that led me there was a convoluted one. However, the point is, I STILL never fell out of love with high-performance aircraft, from WW2 on. I just hate that none of mi best mates share this passion.
Man can’t wait just got my HOTAS yesterday and getting my rudders in the next day or two then practice time and hopefully someday get into the training server
I found the Logitech x56 for $249 I really wanted the warthog or vrpl or Winn Winn but those were out of my budget as of right now but hopefully in the future when I get more focused and time involved in the game I’ll upgrade
@@PDYALL Yeah the X56 seems more "reasonable" than some other HOTAS (prices went thru the roof after COVID hit)! Let us know how it works out for you. Happy flying!
Great Battles. Any of the "Battle of X" games can work as a "base" install, and then as you buy additional "Battle of X"s, it unlocks new planes and maps (though all maps should be available for multiplayer, regardless of which games you own).
Cap i have a viewers request to see the most ordinance in the history of mankind dropped on one target at once, or as an alternative option just drop a RIDICULOUS amount of bombs on something of your choice! 🤣 this mission was fantastic watching! Thanks for keeping me entertained sah!
I noticed right away that the first 3 or 4 bombers were in too tight a formation. (Almost as if they forgot they were bombers and flying in formation as fighters do!) In WWII bombers stayed within range of each other so that the machine gunners can cover each other, but more loosely spread out to lessen the casualty rate. About 100 yards apart, not 20. That's too close! Bombers in too tight a formation are easy pickings for fighters. You want to stay close enough together so that your gunners can cover the other bombers, but not so close that a fighter can take out 3 or more bombers in one pass!
Hi. Love it. I can only imagine how hard it is to fly in a bomber, in VR and in formation so to think of those in WW2 doing this in combat (& practice flight's) and lives lost....😕 Now with that in mind i had a brain far, how about GR boomber jocks having a crack doing it regardless of flak (they stay flight leads level no matter?) Be intresting to see if the 'old moral fibre' issue is lacking because of "spoil my make up" fit exists 😉 (joke's ) Oh and they have to be a flight and go as a fast as the slowest aircraft...... (seeing as GR are shit hot at formation flying 😁😅😂😁)

I feel like the damage model in this game is so arbitrary, especially in the Mustang. Sometimes a tiny burst blows a plane up, other times more than 3/4 of my ammo (with consistent hits) barely does anything.
I understand what you mean by it seeming a little random, I practically fly the mustang religiously and the best chance you have at shooting a plane down is hitting vital parts engine, radiators, pilot etc. It not necessarily the damage model more so just the low caliber round compared to say the 4x 20mills a tempest has. Shooting a aircraft from directly behind is only really going to do damage to the trailing edge wing and tail fin in a turn you are more likely to hit things like the pilot and engine :- GR Hasina aka Mcswine
@@hasina1461 Yeag I definitely see what you’re saying. I also love flying the Tempest and a tiny burst usually does the job. I try to go for the engine, cockpit, and parts where the wing meets the fuselage and that seems to me more successful.
@@christopherfischer6998 the good thing about IL2 is it’s superior damage model so doing enough damage to the wing if the bandit pulls enough G the wing will slowly bend under the stress and just snap off. It’s one of the most satisfying things to see when it happens

lols any you bois actually flown a real plane ? if you make ANY power change.... you have to retirm, you change attitude... you retirm... there is climb trim you decent trim... basically any kind of level flying means trimming for it... and its. not normally a hi hat on your stick...
Any landing you can walk away from..... I was WONDERING how that would end, watching Cap line up so close to the aircraft ahead of him. He ALMOST made it (until he clipped a wingtip anyway)

IL-2 looks so beautiful
IL-2 is getting better and better...Ive got both DCS and IL-2 and I must admit I prefer IL-2 as there graphics are getting really good.
IL2 enviroment and cockpit feels much more alive imo

Fighters should be at higher altitude. Way above the bombers by a couple thousand feet. Gets better results!
