    Just made and I wrapped each ball in white lights before adding spray foam. Attached the lights with duct tape every so often. You can’t see the tape once foam is in. My snowman glows beautifully. Thanks for the video

    what about putting lights around the balls then spraying., or popping the balls after done and creating a whole all the way through for a spotlight to shine up through it?

    These are awesome!!! I have a couple of questions for you??? Beach balls don’t stay full so does the foam collapse? How do you store yours as I would need to put them in my attic where can get super hot in the summer would they survive? Last question how do you come up with these great ideas? Lol I can see why they would put you on the news your yard must be amazing and tons of people must drive by to see your home:) tfs stay safe and God Bless:)

    Spraying insulation foam with water will help it cure faster. About 3-5 minutes after spraying it will form a skin that will enable you to touch and therefore shape/mold the foam without it sticking to your hands. You have to move quick because it cures quick but it makes for a lot of potential creative endeavors. I recommend loctite foam rather than great stuff as its easier to work with. The large gap variety would be ideal for this project.

    LOVE THESE!!! I would use the spray foam and attach two pvc pipes on the back to slide over rebar. That way they won’t blow away OR spin in the wind!

    Very cool! Here is a tip for you, unlike the white styrofoam or pink/blue foam board insulation, you can use spray paint on the expandable foam without out it melting it. Takes a lot less time to paint and gets into the cracks & crevices much better. 😀

    Is that Great Stuff waterproof? Like what if it rains or snows? Will it be ok? I just found your video I did hit subscribe and clicked for all notifications too. I’m really excited about this because when I was in elementary school my mom was the BEEZ NEEZ when it came to volunteering for EVERYTHING! She single handed put our schools Christmas play prop’s together and I am (attempting) to recreate the snowman she made. The way she done it was she got 3 of the punching balloons (the ones that blow up huge and have the rubber bands) well she blew them up 3 different sizes and then covered them with the Elmer’s white glue and newspaper she made it like 1/4 inch thick to give it strength. After all 3 were completely dry she painted them white but wasn’t happy with that. I guess it wasn’t the look she was going for. So then she bought a few bags of jumbo cotton balls and glued those on and was happy with that. But I’m wanting to make it so I can use it hopefully for years and you can’t clean cotton lol it going to collect dust. So I’m thrilled I found your video! She made her snowman in the mid 80s and I’m pretty sure that great stuff wasn’t even invented yet lol. I’m aware that I just dated myself hahahaha. But she done the best she could and was a perfectionist. Anyways I’m definitely going to be making a snowman and I’ll for sure be using the great stuff. Ty Kim

    • @IsaacAlexanderDIY
      @IsaacAlexanderDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for this message, Kim. Great stuff expanding foam IS weatherproof, you just have to make sure to paint it otherwise the expanding foam turns yellow. I really like the method that I used because it creates a very sturdy core for the snowman. After the expanding form has dried, you can pop the beach balls with a knife or deflate the beach balls to reuse them again.
      Sounds like your mom was so good at arts and crafts! Thank you for sharing the story of how she made her props

  • @esmeraldagreen1992

    That is one expensive snowman. In my area it would cost about 74 dollars to make
    3. 88 for the smaller ball
    5.48 for the medium size
    9.88 for the largest size
    3.88 x 14 for 12oz cans of Walmart spray foam
    3.78 for a Lowe's 1.5 feet rebar.

    • @IsaacAlexanderDIY
      @IsaacAlexanderDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it’s actually inexpensive when you look at what it would cost to buy a similar item from a big box store. For example, Home Depot is selling a 5 foot snowman for $130 and a wooden, 36 inch snowman is selling for $106 at Micheal’s stores.
      $74 for a giant, 7 foot snowman is a small price to pay.

      Great assumption but expansion foam only needs a temporary base until it cures, once its cured, the balls aren't needed...

    what if I used an inflatable ball or something similar but filled it with expanding foam instead of spraying the outside?

      Hey Kent, if you can figure out how to do that, please let me know because I have been trying to do something like this but to no avail. I think I ruined like three beach balls attempting to do something like that 😞

    Alternatively, you’re gonna need about 4 guys and a lot of snow

      Yes please don’t play with expanding foam lol a single drop on your skin is an awful cleanup challenge

      Not to mention, it’s pretty pricey

    14 cans. Geez that’s expensive. I won’t be trying this. Plus great stuff is inferior to loctite foam. Loctite is pure white not yellow.

      Have you had much experience with expanding foam before? I ask because 14 cans of expanding foam is not expensive. It will cost you about $48. They’re $3.38 per can at Home Depot and $3.21 at Lowe’s - which is the cheapest foam. In contrast, Loctite is a bit pricier. It’s currently selling for $6.37 at Home Depot. So you’d spend $89 on 14 cans of white foam. Is Loctite a better product? Yes, it is but we are trying to make projects that are economical and available to the average person, like myself.
      Lastly, as with many polyurethane foam products, UV light affects the durability and color stability. Loctite is better than GreatStuff when it comes to UV protection but it is not immune to the yellowing factor. When Loctite is exposed to direct sun, as this snowman is, it will eventually yellow - not as extreme nor as quickly as GreatStuff but it will yellow.
      The only workaround to the yellowing factor is to keep the snowman indoors so that it stays white. That is why I painted mine with exterior grade white latex paint which has kept my snowman white for two years.

    Wouldn't it been better to kinda smooth it out??

    • @IsaacAlexanderDIY
      @IsaacAlexanderDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I would’ve preferred to have smoothed it out but you can’t sand expanding foam and I would’ve had to have used more expensive foam in order to squish it down
