I would like to mention two important things you forgot to mention. 1.) The brute can not attack a player that has not moved. 2.) The scout can not chain attacks together as the rules say it can only attack once.
Moving in an L shape is fine. It was supposed to be like a Knight in Chess, they would just push the other character out of the way as they walked past. I only discovered this was released today, I am hyper-happy! I wrote the rules back when I worked at Lucasarts - this is the same rule set used in an episode of the Clone Wars. Now I have to spend money on international shipping and get myself a copy! Thanks for making the video.
@@TheJodoCast there was going to be a Playstation home area, which included the millennium falcon - and a playable dejarik board. In the end this wasn't developed but my rule set was accepted into the holocron, cementing my personal sense of achievement for ever more. I think its a pretty hard game to learn just on the board, at the time I was being super nerdy - "these people can make star ships, they don't always come across as smart - but they are probably mostly are smarter than us. What kind of game would be tactical and complex enough to challenge the brightest minds of the galaxy, and permeate all levels of society?" Maybe it sits alongside gambling in some places - but in a new hope its clearly a thinking persons game, and to me it's the way that the franchise first really communicates that Chewie is a layered and nuanced creature that deserved a medal!
@@TheJodoCast Tell that to my arms ; ) Thanks for showing that. I saw the checkers side the board and pieces n a product photo they look pretty solid. MTFBWY
Can a brute attack a piece on the opposite side of the board since it can also move to opposite sides of the board? What do you mean exactly when you say that a Brute cannot attack a player that hasnt moved?
So the game seems to be a VERY chess-adjacent game, probably even more so than Arimaa. Unlike Arimaa, however, this game is probably even easier for a computer to play due to the smaller board and less numerous pieces. Also, people who can't completely wrap their head around how the predator and guardian move probably are the type of people to forget how pawns move, that is to say, people who don't get quaint with the game. I could totally see this game having some competitive potential.
Sabacc exists. We have a how to play video for it. Pazaak exists too but as far as I can tell it was limited to the Kotor and Kotor 2 Limited Run Games special editions.
@@TheJodoCast Awesome. I never would have dreamed of that!!! I love Pazaak as it is rather similar to Black Jack. I'll make sure to check those videos out. Thanks for informing me.
Trying to figure out the rules for the new galactic archive version, its pretty similiar except it introduces aggressive and guarded postures for pieces which is what determines all combat outcomes as well as points which are used to change postures and respawn pieces. The rules are really horribly written though, so many things unclear.

Does it mean once as in the whole game or once as in during the turn. It's ambiguous
@@bryceblazegamingyt9741 once per turn
Best strategy: Let the Wookie win
No one cares about the droids
What about the droid attack on the Wookiees?

Wow that's an exciting bit of Star Wars gaming history you're a part of! Was there a specific video game you made the rules for?

@@SpringloadedSoftware that's fantastic, thank you for sharing
@@SpringloadedSoftware How much communication is there between the animators and the department you were in?
which episode?
I played this with my 11 year old step daughter. She loves it. She actually beat me a few time. Lol
Best name for the cast ever...Growing up, Jodi Kast was my favorite character for whatever reason
Honestly it doesn’t seem all that difficult to play. It’s just a matter of getting used to it. BTW: Average Brown Wookiee is one of my favorites.
any strategies against a wookie?
really lay into them. Wookiees are known for being gracious losers

Geers Tyresoil I think you should let the wookie win if you want to keep your arms
Really great video!! Thanks a lot. I was having trouble reading the rules (mainly Scout)😅

Can pieces jump other pieces when attacking? If so which ones?

Awesome an actual Star Wars universe game.
Hope they also create both Sabacc and Pazaak as well.

I always won at this game. Evwryoen I played against sucked
It may not be as extensive and complex as normal chess, but, it is a decent game nonetheless.
Can any of the pieces move through other pieces?
The preditor
Hit the pieces with the other pieces and then laugh it up Fuzzball
Just let the wookie win
Where can I buy this game?
ah, nvm. I found it
Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at Disney
How to online
Bec I can’t go to disney
@@Chop_78 you can buy it at the Trading Post at Downtown Disney in CA.
Who else just paused at the 1 hour mark of New Hope “Jedi Training” scene to watch this out of curiosity?
Now if only there was a holographic version
There is if you buy the AR headset/lightsaber game Jedi Challenges lol
Galactic archive version released a few weeks ago and its pieces are translucent and light up when on the board.
