I raised 6 kids on a remote ranch in Colorado; we had to bulk up the pantry for winter as well. I know you know this, but I became really vigilant on waste. I noted how often say half of muffin would not get eaten, some milk would get left in the glass, etc.. I started dishing smaller portions with the understanding if you take it, you eat it!

We didn’t have to worry, but my brother got away with not eating or drinking everything. But, I always had to. My mom spoiled him and I went to my grandparents on my dads side and got my loving from them especially my grandma.

One of the many things I've had to do is switch from paper towels to microfiber cloths. I took what I would spend on paper towels for a month and purchased the equivalent on the cloth instead. Bought in bulk at dollar store. That was 4 years ago, and most of the cloths are going strong today. Best idea.😊

Since I was a little girl my mother taught us to add things together as we put it in the cart. I have done that my whole life because we have never had a undetermined amount of money. We usually never have enough and have to leave things we need. And since my husband died and with inflation it just keeps getting worse.😂

Our prices have gone up too, but I don’t have to bulk buy here in Scotland as it’s only me and hubby. I couldn’t believe the cost of cooking oil and olive oil here the last time I went shopping. We try not to waste anything just like everyone else who is watching their budget. Great to see you and your son shopping together.

Costco starts out with me keeping track as I add to cart. Halfway thru, I've been distracted and forgot the running total, but there are still things we definitely need. I spend the rest of my gathering praying and by the time I'm in line, the knot begins to tie in my stomach. It's ALWAYS more than I expected. Argh!!!

Our family of three has a $75 a week budget for groceries. I tally up the total as I go along in the grocery store. When prices started increasing drastically, I switched to generic for a lot of the things that we buy. turns out the generic option is usually pretty good, that’s been able to help me save a ton on groceries most weeks I am able to stay under budget. We also meal plan, so I purchase exactly what we’re going to be using that week..

PS...I can definitely taste a big difference in the varieties of drinking water. I can't stand to drink Aquafina water but really like Dasani drinking water. Yes I've noticed a big difference in prices now as compared to last year. WOW I guessed $ 500.00 I was really off. I also have been taking from my storage to keep from buying groceries but now that's its getting to that time of the year I need to start rebuilding my groceries and miscellaneous items that I use for back-up so Ill definitely be spending more than usual when I go shopping but I have to consider that Christmas is coming and I'm on Social Security so I also will be buying my Thanksgiving and Christmas groceries as well and my November and December SS doesn't come in till a couple of days after so that's why I have to plan now also for my holiday baking. I haven't bought beef for quite a while. I had a "hankering" to make a beef stew last week but was totally shocked how expensive one little package was. I used to but 2 packages(one pound each) for my stew but after seeing the price I am just eating chicken now. My grocery store usually has a cooked rotisserie chicken on sale once a month and I'll buy 2, cut them up and freeze one. Generic brands are sometimes just as good as the national brand and sometimes even better at a much lower price. I always enjoy your shopping hauls as it is not only interesting to see what's available in Alaska but it's also fun and educational at the same time.

  • @jessicapabon2105
    @jessicapabon2105 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Is getting very expensive here were in Texas and rumor has it that it looks like it might be even more expensive come 2024. My only recommendation is since you have lots of room down there I would buy extra of the extras LOL it's not hoarding it's being smart and preparing. It's having more than you typically would have so that next year, you're not having to pay the extra green dollars and have a cardiac arrest because of the increase in price of your receipt that is going to be probably going to be an extra $150 or $200 more than what it is now.
So you want to make sure that your family is well taken care of and that you have prepped enough to help pending whatever situation may come your way
. I always say to people when I talk to them have at least..... if you're able to... Have at least a minimum of three to six months in your pantry. Preferably though... A year and let me tell you it is possible and you're going to go through your pantry and it's a pantry that is used so it's being used and things are being shifted and it's continual. You really are going to have to sit down and say okay we need more of this just in case and of this excetera excetera....
    LoL..Garret is a hoot !
Tapping into the resources you need to but I definitely don't use up my resources or my pantry to the point where I'm like oh boy I think I need to refill it soon I don't do that I put it on the list and as I use it it goes on a list and I replace it as soon as possible and whenever I replace it I add one or two more of what I replaced. And that's why a lot of times I think that's why I'm staying ahead of this crazy inflation. Again you do what you can with what you got but I have a feeling that next year is not going to be any better as a matter fact I think it's going to be a lot worse

  • @tp06

i think the different water bottlers' plastics DO taste different; we don't have arrowhead where I am, but I definitely do not care for the Safeway brand compared to my local grocery chain's generic. I generally buy more ingredients than prepared foods, but have a teen so I would buy snacky or quick easy prep stuff for them to make. now I hardly buy ANY prepared or convenience items. You might want to stock up on some Nido Fortificada (dry whole milk found on the Hispanic foods aisle) for Livy during the winter months. It's much better than nonfat dry milk.

Shopping: done off a list with prices. Sometimes the store is more expensive, so knowing their online prices, I ask them to match.

We have a Sam's in our area and we have noticed the prices going up beyond what we can afford for some items. We hunt wild fruit and collect it when it is ripe. We grew up knowing where every berry, apple, pears, plums and cherries grew and made jams jellies, juice, sliced fruit. This year because of the drought the Elderberries did not have near the juice and we are just going to make due, with what we were able to get. Plus we grow as many vegetables as we can and dry them, can them or freeze them.

We have had to change how we shop. We have moved to Costco and bulk shopping and trying to put more things in the freezer. We had to say goodbye to organic produce as it has gotten just too expensive and actually made more of a switch to frozen product as opposed to fresh. We have started being really diligent about not wasting anything. Inflation is hitting everyone really hard! It is so sad.

Hello, happy people. I absolutely love your videos and your family. I live in western Illinois. Not far from St. LOUIS, Mo. Just over the river. My grocery budget has almost doubled, and I have switched from buying brand name items to store brand. I'm definitely feeling stretched. I also used to have a pantry stocked and have had to dig into our surplus with no money to restock to be ahead. Power and water bill and property taxes have gone up as well. My son and I have expensive health issues that have been raised as well. Thankful my husband can still work, and God always provides.🙌

I love when you do a Costco run. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and find myself comparing what your Costco carries compared to ours. The USA Costcos offer more variety than what is offered here. For the longest time, when you throw in the exchange rate, both of our prices have been about the same. That being said, in your run today, your prices were higher than ours. I didn’t think I had adjusted my shopping much, though when I stop to think about it, I have. The cost of beef here is outrageous, so I find myself waiting until we go cross border shopping into North Dakota and buy beef from Sam’s Club. A roast here that might cost me anywhere from $35-60 I can pick up at Sam’s Club for $16.00. Even with the exchange rate that is a huge difference. I am trying to be more mindful of what I am buying as a quick run to the store these days to pick up a few items ends up costing me well over $100. It’s time to draw a line at what I am willing and not willing to spend and actually use and stick to a grocery list!

Thank you Garrett and Bert for Helping the Momma. Thank you to Grandma to for helping with the Kiddo’s (Girl’s). I am sure the Girl’s and Miss Liv loved the time with Grandma. Another Benefit of Grandma’s House… Grandpa!!! Reason I said that is because if Liv decided to take a nap Grandpa and Daddy’s are normally our happy place (at least they were for my daughter’s and myself when I was a baby. Btw, Liv and I share a Birthday Month and with Liv being the 16th and I am on the 25th… Happy Birthday to Miss Liv and being a Special September Baby.

Man I guessed $658.41. Your shopping trips are usually between $550 and $700, so $706 isn’t too far over lol. I don’t shop for a family of 6, but inflation has hit pretty hard (my trips are in the $200 per week range), and I also couldn’t find Kirkland water at my local Costco either.
