We are a family of 6 living life in North Pole, Alaska! Where Santa Claus House is right down the street! When my dad would buy things not on my mom’s grocery list she called them unauthorized purchases. Usually for my dad it was a pudding cake,he loved those so much,makes me tear up when I see them in the store now. 🙂💖🐈⬛🐈🌈

Honestly, the weather is abnormal all over the planet.
Our weather is just fine.
We are loving our cold ...60s...weather in Orlando. Nice change. Not calling it abnormal though.
It’s unusually warm in Colorado it’s 60 today that’s October or and April weather usually it’s normally 40 degrees to 30 degrees.
This morning I woke in South Carolina to 27 degrees and currently it’s 32 degrees tonight

I save money by buying store own brands wherever possible and providing the product is good. For example, SPAM. I don't buy actual SPAM any more, I buy chopped pork and ham. It's packed in a tin exactly like SPAM, and tastes exactly the same. But it's only ⅔ the price.

Hello happy peoples. Bush’s baked beans are seasonal at Costco I learned the hard way. Stock up when you see them because they don’t always have them
With everything so crazy in the world, I can’t even afford to get the groceries needed for my family. I’m ok with going hungry as long as my family eats. It keeps me up at night😢

We did our pre-Christmas Costco run on Monday and I couldn’t believe the bill. $700 CAD for a full cart of groceries, which is a lot for us here in southern Manitoba. Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Thanks for sharing. I know Alaskans always have to have an emergency supply storage ready for a possible extended period of time. Here in Florida now, hurricane season is over but we can get some severe weather like we did this past weekend that worked its way up the coast. We stock up on few things when hurricane season starts but more if a warning is issued. We just don’t have lots of storage room since we have zero basements. But we manage. That’s when our Costco has a tendency to run out or go low on stock. Bert, I guessing 650.00 for that haul.

If you have an iPhone you don’t need to write a list and then remove that item. Start a new note and then go to the bottom of the page and find the icon with list on it. It creates check boxes. Just tick the box when you have what you need and it goes to the bottom of the page. Then you can reuse your list in future.

Went to Costco yesterday and $500 later. Got quite a bit of fresh fruit , frozen fruit and veggies.

Now if you go on a normal grocery trip, try to also restock what you have used from the crawl space. Maybe adding a few extra items each time. And as you said, rotating it. We mark the date purchased on the containers so we can keep track of what needs to be eaten first. Knowing that AK prices are often much higher, I didn't even try to guess at a price. But it was higher than anticipated. Do you also store water? I'm not sure if you have your own water well or get water deliveries. How about backup systems just in case the power goes out for an extended period of time? For example, showers. 1. Showers with generator, 2. possibly a propane on demand camping style shower, 3. a type of tank used with cement work or for fruit trees can be used for showers by adding a spray head to the hose and then pump up the pressure right down to 4. gallon jug showers. It's the two is one and one is none thing. Water for drinking, cooking, for pets, for washing and for flushing the toilet? You are doing great.
It’s been in the 50s here in Kansas and it’s supposed to be in the 60s next week. Kansas weather is so unpredictable. One minute it’s warm and sunny the next it’s snowing and freezing.

Thats the first thing about buying in bulk for storage and hard times. Only store what youre really going to eat and use and always use and rotate.
In deep winter we do a bit of microgreens and sprouts Nd i have 2 small rails of hydroponics i bought LED grow lights and i also have LED 5500 shop lights.
The shop light grow beautiful microgreens.
And 6 LED lights end up(i use timers)using less electricity than my old fluorescent grow tubes.
Lettuce and green onion and broccoli microgreens all go crazy in hydroponics. Quite a few of the seeds i use for microgreens i grow outside. At end of season the broccoli and giant red mustard give more seed then you need. Onion sprouts are really good too.
I do like my costco trips a little too much 😮😅

Yes during the pandemic everyone was buying toilet paper like crazy! As if people have forgotten how to wash their booties. 😅 We have a toilet sprayer and wash cloths. Never went through that hype.
We live in the Midwest and we have had a very mild winter. No snow except for one dusting. 40-50 degrees.

Oops, another thing… y’all might want to make a running list that sits by the door of the crawl space that lists everything. I know you made a list before but now you need to have it on paper so the kids or you adults can check it off and once an item hits 2 then it needs to go on a “Separate List” for Restocking.

Laundry! Finally did last load before Christmas. No dryer, so we use maiden/clothes horse? Will be dry come Friday/Saturday. Everything cleared away for Christmas Eve and Day. Then back to normal on Boxing Day, 26th Dec', St Stephen's Day.
My last day of Shopping for Veg/Cheeses ect will be Saturday at my local out door market.
