      ATP and these chair umpires expect the players to behave like robots. There are instances when players are excessively sweating and wipe face with towel for 5 seconds and get time violation. The lady who gave Simon warning should be ashamed of herself.

      Yeah he quite clearly said 'I can't see the ball anymore, I need some time'. She must have heard it, or just wasn't paying attention. Ridiculous decision, and I swear I've never seen a supervisor do anything in response to a player complaint about the umpire. It's like they're not prepared to admit they're wrong in any circumstances.

    • @noeldacosta7621
      @noeldacosta7621 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's a tough thing on both sides really. I mean yes, when you think there are players earning millions, or from wealthy families, and then they come out on court and take out their momentary bad luck on a dude who's probably volunteering for the love of tennis, then it's just ugly. But the flip side of the coin is there are probably 100,000 tennis players competing for maybe 100 slots to even have a career and you work physically hard every day to get a chance at a title and then you have a few things go against you - maybe the sun's in your eyes, you're battling an injury, sweat on your hand making the racket slip, you get a time violation for wiping the sweat off you hands, you lose your footing on the grass, some dick in the crowd calls out while you're trying to serve and then you're robbed by a bad line call from a dude who's one job is to watch a line. All while you're having to pay for travel, hotels, physio, gear. It's very hard to stay mentally cool as a tennis player because it can be very frustrating, stressful, nerve-wracking and it can feel like the world is conspiring against you. We should marvel at the players who manage it and celebrate those who handle the indignities with grace. And we should definitely have sympathy for the dedicated support staff that make the game possible for very little in return.

      @@noeldacosta7621 i appreciate and agree with 90% of this. However if the umpire simply couldnt see whether it was in or out then he couldnt. The player can see calls much easier than the umpire so they are gonna be wrong more than the player is, forgetting bias. The umpires treat the players with respect, i dont see that respect reciprocated where it should be in some of the clips

Second, much of McEnroe’s antics were exaggerated to distract his opponent. The only one he always behaved towards was Borg. He respected Bjorn much as a person and opponent.

    They should introduce a yellow card and red card system in tennis, like they do in football, soccer for all the Americans,
    First warning is verbal, no card, second warning is a yellow card, third is a red card and disqualification

    • @Insomnia153
      @Insomnia153 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The current system is very similar though and imo better for tennis. First warning is verbal only, on the second warning you lose a point, on the third you lose a game and on the fourth you get disqualified.

    • @Insomnia153
      @Insomnia153 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Einars Dubrovskis I looked it up and you're mostly right. I was thinking about the USTA regulations, but ATP is different. However, the tournament supervisor has the right to disqualify someone with more than three violations. (VII/2/a)
      In fact, I don't know anyone who ever got away with 4+ violations. Thank you for making me aware of the difference though.

    • @alancosta4760
      @alancosta4760 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are 5 strikes already (code violation 1, code violation point penalty, code violation game penalty, code violation set penalty then defaut) I think it could be reduced for 3, probably Kyrgios would retire of tennis hajahha

    • @juandiegoprado
      @juandiegoprado 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Einars Dubrovskis They’re committing mistakes, not stealing points. Its part of the sport. I think there should be other ways of fixing problems related to bad calls. One way should be to include hawkeye in every tournament possible, including clay tournaments.

    • @juandiegoprado
      @juandiegoprado 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Einars Dubrovskis That would be fantastic. Anything that can prove to the player and the umpire where the ball landed with absolute certainty should be implemented as much as possible. The problem then is what to do with smaller courts and tournaments that can’t afford them.
