I did something similar to your friend. I went up and read eminem's freestyle talking about how "that's an awfully hot coffee pot" is a metaphor for the state of government and shit. The teacher somehow didn't care and gave me a good grade for using "literary language" like metaphor and shit to analyze it. I'm not sure to this day if the teacher ever found out what I read at the front of the class that day.

I never liked writing poems. When I had to write poems, I wrote poems about the fact that I was writing a poem, and the poems would descend into insanity as they got more and more self-referential.
Its sad because poetry is honestly the best part about literature classes.
