  • Eric in the morning having a good chat to himself.
Eric is only in his cage very briefly in the mornings and is talking the most. He has the run of the house with his favorite spots during the day and goes outside in the afternoon

I have had my Vos Eclectus boy 'GB' since he was 14 weeks old, back in the day when most never heard of such a bird, OR the sub-species that are bred in this country. Now, will be 25 this year, has NEVER spoken a word. Makes all kinds of imitative noises he picked up from me, but never a word.
My Nanday Conure will be 26 this year, she has been 'whispering' some phrases she picked up from me, but that is about all. 🙂

Can they live as long as Amazons?

More or less, they can, but even most amazons don't live as long as online information might have you think. The main thing with all of them (amazons, ekkies,...) is to provide a really good quality diet, exercise, and overall safety practices.

There are multiple amazon species some live 40 years some can live to a hundred.
They have big differences in personality too.
Eclectus live around 30-40 years with good care.
Mine passed at the age of 37

What a beautiful bird, do you still have Eric? Why did you stop making videos? Anyway I really enjoyed Eric thank you for posting these videos. I don’t have a bird but I find that they soothe me and make me quite happy. So give Eric a kiss for me for doing that

@@andylukstin9547 I am so fascinated by these amazing creatures. I’ve had a long lived cat an amazing Labrador dog who is now 14. Never once did I give thought to having a bird as a pet. I can see why people want them now. I’ve learned so much from Bird Tricks and Marlene McCohen with her 13 parrots. The who,e hormonal thing was mind blowing. They will literally take you as their mate if you continually stroke their backs, under their wings etc. If they regurgitate on you…you be da one for life😜🤪😳 and they will dive bomb you spouse or friends. That’s truly amazing that they mate for life as well. They are incredibly complex animals. I’m now thinking that when I’m in a better position and my senior dog is no longer with me, if everything aligns then maybe I could get a rescue, an older bird. I know how damaged some these rescues can be though. I would not and will caution people to never get a bird unless you can devote massive amounts of time and have enough money etc to keep them in good health, lots of toys and challenges are required too. Way more work than dogs even

That is a budgie cage tho, wayyyyyy too small.
Just saying so viewers do not think and eclectus can actually live happily in that.
That is on the small side even for a budgie.....
