I just now saw this video. Last year, i went 2 MONTHS without my phone, and i can 100% recommend it. It gives you so much more time to live, and life is not as stressful as it usually is (at least for me). Of course, i'm in school, so i naturally see people every day, but I would get SO lonely and bored too! I admire Ashley so much for making this video! Very inspirational. Spending time without your phone, definitely makes you realize, that there's a real world out there.

okay as a creator myself the fact that she literally finished filming this video two days ago and uploaded it with amazing editing is just mind boggling to me pop off sis
@@ausername.twowords.9407 I know this sounds weird. Instead of just asking you about it, I rewatched the whole video to see if I could find the point she says it's "pi day". I couldn't find it anywhere. At one point she says it's "earth day". Could you maybe have misheard her?
Random and video unrelated thought but I noticed how attentive David is when you're speaking and it's so nice to see that? it sounds like the bar is on the ground but like...people genuinely listening to somebody else. that. more of that. Video related though: really interesting how being without your phone makes you confront your own thoughts and emotions more, definitely notice that myself
honestly this video is kind of a wake up call? i use my phone a lot, and i mean 10 hours a day regularly, it’s for a lot of reasons, mostly because my thoughts are often times very overwhelming and loud and my phone is a good way to get them to stop, however it’s not the healthiest way to deal with them and it makes me not process a lot of my emotions. I’m not going to take a break from it for now because I already know that that would cause more problems than it would fix, but I think that if I combined a more thoughtful use of it later down the road in combination with therapy to help me deal with those thoughts my life would probably improve a lot. I know this is kind of weird to share under a random video thats almost a year old but I felt like I needed to share it somewhere to speak my intentions, and to show my thanks for kind of, inspiring this thought process at all
If you struggle with overwhelming thoughts you should take up journalling! I find its a really good way to just let everything go and write down literally whatever i think about and my train of thought. Its a nice way to work around your emotions and help to understand them better :)
Have you tried meditating before? I have been loving guided meditations on headspace (anywhere between 3 and 20min) ever since I first tried them like 2 years ago and it’s helped me to understand and manage my thoughts & feelings so much better. Definitely recommend!
This is the aesthetic version of Emma chamberlain’s video. Not trying to say whose is better (both are different in their own ways) because every content creator deserves credit for his/her work. I respect both Ashley and Emma. 💛
I HIGHLY recommend a book I just finished called "How to break up with your phone" !! It's so good. It's a 30 days plan to build a healthier relationship with your phone with small daily exercises (like how to "curate" your apps, rebuild focus, phone hacks, using a real alarm clock, setting up "no phone zones", etc). And it only has a 24 hour period when you are not allowed to use it completely and the rest of the time you learn how to use it more mindfully. Also, great vid Ashley :) I like your thinky thoughts and would appreciate more content like that ! You're a smarty
ashley. listen up. you are worth it. you are valued and while I'm sure being a youtuber you're always concerned with views or likes because that's your job and you want to be good at your job because you care. Taking time for yourself on a regular basis is not selfish and is going to be so good for your wellbeing and mindset. trust me, ill help you be so much more motivated and expand your creativity. Sometimes we all get caught up in Instagram and spend hours doing absolutely nothing scrolling through, however taking time and doing something that you like such as picking up a hobby again that doesn't have to do with social media and your job will let you subconsciously differentiate yourself from your job. because you're not just a youtuber, your ashley and on top of that, you do youtube and brand deals and whatever else that may be. I'll help you create your own lens through which you see yourself because you're more than the amount of views that you get, rather than how others see you. I know this is so so much easier said than done and I could literally talk for hours about all of this but finding happiness and being comfortable with yourself but I've been working on this myself to grow as a person and it helps so much. I just want to help you be the best version of yourself and honestly, I hope you don't take this the wrong way. you're such an amazing person with honestly the best fashion style out there. please like this so she can see this! much love xo
I was a bit uncomfortable watching this because all I thought throughout the video was: YOU CAN READ BOOKS!! Books fill the gap of the phone, at least for me. I tried the same thing when I was on holidays, and I read four books in a week. A WEEK. It's so weird but I kept a book with me whilst I was out, so I could read and still go out and not interact with people. So, idk. maybe you need to find another hobby. I do too, because sometimes books aren't enough or I still would have to pay for them. I love how 100% honest you always are and it's one of the reasons why you're one of my fav youtubers right now.
i don’t get you... you said you were a bit “uncomfortable” watching this bcs she didn’t think to read a book (4 books like you) but then you said you loved the video and her channel rn ? whaaa

This video just gave me actual motivation to reduce my cell phone usage. Everything was so true and I related so much. Productivity, disconnection from my own thoughts, detracting from my quality time with my family, and affecting my sleep... I want to fix that.

It's also possible to put it on a timer so you don't have to worry about turning it off and on every day! it has made it so much easier for me to fall asleep in the evening and definately worth checking out :D
When I saw your channel the first time I thought you were just another LA "vintage fashion guru" but I am SO GLAD I stuck around because you are so refreshingly honest, wise and super humble!! You are someone I'd definitely want to be friends with. Also you look a bit similar to me and to see you with so much genuine confidence is inspiring me! much love ❤
You would probably benefit from getting a new hobby or something like that, I think everyone needs something other to do than working and being on their phone
i was surprised that she considered her hobby of like fashion vids to work....kinda sad how youtubers are considering it work when it started as something they enjoyed, nt something they had to do......
@@PrincessDaisyTseng Just because it's "work" doesn't mean that TH-camrs don't still enjoy what they do. I'm sure they still love what they're doing while making money
I was thinking the same thing, but that kind of goes against the point of removing your phone from your life. It's about removing a major distraction, and getting to know yourself and the effect of those low level distractions better, not about finding replacements for the things you do on your phone.
I think I could die of depression if I dropped my phone totally (I live alone, and now quarantining...) but it is definitely an anxiety source. On the other hand, using it less is definitely a great idea but you have to control your demon thoughts.
You gave me an idea for a writing assignment I'm going to use in my comp class: You need to change one thing about your routine/habits for a week, and you have to keep a log with your experiences and feelings. Watching this video will be an optional but recommended way to start the assignment. Thanks!

Only 3 hours?? I'm literally on my phone like... 50% of my day Edit: Woah it's been 20 minutes and this comment already has 50 likes 😂 Thank youuu Also I'm a small TH-camr 😁
mine is 7 hours on Saturday and around 4 hours on school days (this includes like homework, calls etc.) and 6 hours on Sunday I've been tryin to get to bed earlier so around 11:00 to 11:30 and it's working because I've begun to get tired at this time. For anyone who needs sleep I used a few simple steps 1. Get into bed a bit earlier 2. Have a warning alarm 10 minutes before you want to sleep 3. Have an app that when it reaches a certain time it blocks only certain apps, for example Snapchat, youtube etc. but doesn't block phone or gallery Another way you could do it is you can block the wifi at a certain time . If you continue this your mind will get used to sleeping at that designated time and after a few weeks you won't need to switch of the wifi etc. because you will be too tired at the designated time. I've been doing this for a few weeks and I can say it defo helps.

Sending positive energy from the East Coast!
It's also possible to put it on a timer so you don't have to worry about turning it off and on every day! it has made it so much easier for me to fall asleep in the evening and definately worth checking out :D
ashley: "i've been in my apartment for 90% of them time!"
me: *laughs in corona*
Ashley's contemplating/high mood is me 24/7

I love how freely explicit you are , it’s so refreshing watching a TH-camr that doesn’t have to hold back / or act differently then they actually are
you smiling at your own jokes while editing is THE CUTEST thing
Emily Whittle Exactlyy 🥰
Ashley, the “influencer” who actually influences 🤗
Please make a video for broke college students or for thriving adulting budget
I second this
I aggressively third this.
Yes please!
Hell yeah
you’re the most relatable youtube i swear. i love it. also as a public librarian i feel obligated to tell you libraries have lots of stuff to do 😂💛
emma f have you discovered the next Abraham Lincoln in your library
emma f Yesss. It's not just books, most libraries host all kinds of activities!
Ashley: a week without a phone
Me: You go girl!! .... **while watching this on my phone** 🙃
Alexandria Mitchell hahaha ditto
i feel that 😂
Me🤣
"I spend about 3,5 hours on my phone daily"
Me: *AMATEURE*
Ashley: I spend an average of 3 hours and 1 minute on my phone a day
* goes to my average *
Ella: oh shit mines 7 hours and 1 minute
OH
Holy shit, 10 hours lmfao
Um this past week I've watched 31 hours and 59 minutes of youtube...
Mines 11 hr 42 m... I have a problem
Mine average is around 2 hours😂😂
When I saw your channel the first time I thought you were just another LA "vintage fashion guru" but I am SO GLAD I stuck around because you are so refreshingly honest, wise and super humble!! You are someone I'd definitely want to be friends with. Also you look a bit similar to me and to see you with so much genuine confidence is inspiring me! much love ❤
You would probably benefit from getting a new hobby or something like that, I think everyone needs something other to do than working and being on their phone
i was surprised that she considered her hobby of like fashion vids to work....kinda sad how youtubers are considering it work when it started as something they enjoyed, nt something they had to do......
dtxx 〈3 well i think it's still her hobby
she's just making money with it so that why she calls it work
@@PrincessDaisyTseng Just because it's "work" doesn't mean that TH-camrs don't still enjoy what they do. I'm sure they still love what they're doing while making money
Ashley’s average: 3 hours and 28 minutes a day
My average: 7 hours 32 minutes a day
Ahahah, yikes.
Me literally from wake up to sleep 😶
ᴴᴬᴺᴬᴴᴬᴷᴵ mine’s like 8 hrs lls
My average: 19 hours and 46 minutes a day
Ahahah, yikes.
I’m sorry but the way that David looks at Ashley is so so sweet
AT 4:01 HER THINKY THOUGHTS HIT HARD ASF, I DIDN'T KNOW I FELT THAT WAY, UNTIL YOU WORDED IT SO PERFECTLY, DAMN
Ashley seems so innocent but she lowkey a freak aiajsj
I find it so weird that you didn’t once mention reading a book lol. Feel like that’s the go to distraction from your phone. And of course tv/movies
Why didn't you listen to podcasts /music on your laptop? I do that all the time
I was thinking the same thing, but that kind of goes against the point of removing your phone from your life. It's about removing a major distraction, and getting to know yourself and the effect of those low level distractions better, not about finding replacements for the things you do on your phone.
*I tried doing this challenge, but you posted a video..*
same shit 😂🤦🏻♀️
😂😂😂😂😂
On a computer

Ashley: *sees glasses*
also Ashley: OH MY GOD! is that Joana Cedia
Oh my god! I loved you both!!!
I think I could die of depression if I dropped my phone totally (I live alone, and now quarantining...) but it is definitely an anxiety source. On the other hand, using it less is definitely a great idea but you have to control your demon thoughts.
OK BUT HOW IS EVERYTHING YOU DO SO AESTHETICALLY PLEASING ?! ✨🤩
Coz her name is Ashley 😉
My schedule is basically:
1. Wake up and food
2. TH-cam
3. School and food
4. TH-cam

@@angelbeencold3930 yeah but I'm getting better
You gave me an idea for a writing assignment I'm going to use in my comp class: You need to change one thing about your routine/habits for a week, and you have to keep a log with your experiences and feelings. Watching this video will be an optional but recommended way to start the assignment. Thanks!
Pleaaaaase make a podcast or something, I just adore hearing your thoughts!
david literally looks like my english teacher and i cant unsee it bdhsdkn

Her: I felt that the only way to soothe my anxiety lately is to hang out with David,
Have sex,
or to check my phone
Me: wow she is very open with her feelings
The way david looks at u omgosh u two are perfect for each other 😍😍
yeah so cute couple aw
Ashley: I spend 3 hours on my phone a day
Me: oh uh maybe I should cut down a bit
Ashley put your phone on do not disturb when you sleep!
Katie Livermore this sounds dumb but will the alarms still go off? Sorry 😂
Kaley LeCroy yes! this keeps me from being woken in the middle of the night by a message or call, but the alarms still work.
Also! You can still recieve calls/texts from choice contacts by favoriting their contact & allow notifs in ur do not disturb settings!
Katie Livermore lmaoo I definitely wouldn’t need to do that, I don’t even wake up during earthquakes😂😂 I’m such a heavy sleeper🤣
thanks!!
Me, watching this on my phone: wow how interesting I should try this
Also me: haha that wou-
Emma chamberlain: 1 day without my phone
Ashley: ..
I’d love a soup recipe/ tutorial on your insta story or something!!
Hannah Whitworth 🙋♀️me too!
Yess
This was so realistic. I'm loving the content you put out there!
Her: on average three hours
Me: I haven’t eaten today because I was down in my bedroom playing on my phone...
I felt the same last year and that was my low key reason to get a cat. Cat is a great rescue from solitude.
Only 3 hours?? I'm literally on my phone like... 50% of my day
Edit: Woah it's been 20 minutes and this comment already has 50 likes 😂 Thank youuu
Also I'm a small TH-camr 😁
*3 hours and 28 minutes*
I died! Lmao my average time on my phone is like 7 hours on days I have SCHOOL!
me too lol
U need some help
mine is 7 hours on Saturday and around 4 hours on school days (this includes like homework, calls etc.) and 6 hours on Sunday I've been tryin to get to bed earlier so around 11:00 to 11:30 and it's working because I've begun to get tired at this time. For anyone who needs sleep I used a few simple steps
1. Get into bed a bit earlier
2. Have a warning alarm 10 minutes before you want to sleep
3. Have an app that when it reaches a certain time it blocks only certain apps, for example Snapchat, youtube etc. but doesn't block phone or gallery
Another way you could do it is you can block the wifi at a certain time .
If you continue this your mind will get used to sleeping at that designated time and after a few weeks you won't need to switch of the wifi etc. because you will be too tired at the designated time. I've been doing this for a few weeks and I can say it defo helps.
PrincessThor sis it was 11 hours for me once AND I WAS IN MY JUNIOR YEAR THAT TIME💀
How is that even possible 😂😂 mine is 2h37
*ashley smiling at her own video is the cutest interaction*
I love how actually real this 'going (specified time) without my phone' video is
Ashley pls post the soup recipe I wanna make it too HAHAHAHA
Marie Kim omg same

thanks for sharing ya experience, really encouraged me to take a step back and think about where im at with my dependency on faux companionship/social media, and giving myself the time to come up with organic thoughts

Honestly I love how you can be so real.
Like I would never be able to talk about that kind of thing.
I always find myself smiling so freaking hard when u and David interact :’)
THAT. IS WHAT I WANT :’)
To be honest the way she uses her phone to feel connected and validated is the reason I tune in to this channel every week, like her videos are the remedy to my weekly breakdown/existential crisis
She’s been uploading so much recently who else loves it
I’m a new subscriber and been binge watching you during this quarantine.. love the content and just listening to you is so refreshing.
