    Nice tutorial, man. FWIW one other tip for doing this I know of is avoiding 4th and 5th intervals which on repeated listens can start to sound a bit boring and predictable. For example you're on a G and you want to go to C or D. One way obviously is to put in one passing note, an A or B maybe. Another approach is to do what the jazzers do: frame the target note with one or two quick notes each side of it on the scale. So to get from G to C in the simplest form of this idea, put in a fast B and D before landing on the C target.

    Zen i gotta say i expected a bit more here from you, since i know u can be very good with melodies
    this one sounds incredible boring thou just going up and down following the root notes mostly and the rythm isnt super great as well
    u totally forget to use the strong 5th in the melody too

    • @3ricMusic
      @3ricMusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    • @Blackain66
      @Blackain66 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the title is "catchy melodies" and this melody is not catchy but rather boring for me im sry
      he stated the simple basics (root note, using notes from chords) and syncopation alright but what really makes a good catchy melody is not just notes that work with some offsetting but using good harmonic sequences including some 5th relations which isnt even mentioned at all (easiest form would be the chord-arp but thats too simple for a really good melody ofc)
      ether way u cant just stay on the root note of the chord all the time and only go one up or down a note here and there, man thats just not good or catchy ;)

    • @bencastor9207
      @bencastor9207 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Blackain66 exactly this, nothing about this really helps create catchy melodies. It's literally the basics of writing melodies.

      1. Add 16 unison to the default wavetable
      2. Add a lowpass filter and play with it until it sounds right
      3. Play with portamento to make it more interesting
