    ---------------------------------
[10 REASONS WHY ASIANS DON'T GET FAT]
Now, of course, there are Asians who are fat or chubby, so the title is a bit of a generalized statement or stereotype, but as a whole, there's definitely some truth to it. Genetics is an obvious factor so I'm gonna leave that one off the list. Here are the 10:
    1. Fish & Seafood
Asians eat a lot of seafood. The biggest benefit to eating fish is the omega-3 fatty acids. Fish gives our brain and body the DHA & EPA it needs. EPA in particular has been shown to prevent obesity. 1.5 to 2 grams daily of fish oil can produce weight loss of a couple pounds over a period of a month.
    2. Cooking Methods
If you compare Western and Asian eating habits, sure they both consume deep fried foods, but Asian countries vary their cooking methods a lot more.
    3. Food Perception
How people see and experience food can be different depending on where you are. In America, for example, food is seen more as entertainment. There is desire, joy and anticipation associated with eating. Not that it isn't in Asian countries, but it's a lot more toned down. Eating has more of a practical feel, in many cases closer to being a chore rather than entertainment.
    4. Portion Size
Asians eat smaller portions. Food is often served in small serving bowls and small plates and this helps regulate how much is consumed in one sitting. Now if we take a look at America? SUPERSIZE!
    5. Leafy Greens
Asian portion size in general might be smaller, but their vegetable portion size is consistently larger. In many Asian countries, people don't even need to be reminded to eat their veg. It's just ingrained.
    6. Drink Habits
It is a common belief that drinking water, especially cold water, with your meal is a habit that one should avoid, as it dilutes your digestive enzymes and makes it harder for your stomach to digest food. Americans often drink cold water or sodas with their meals, not so much for Asian people however. Rather they drink hot teas before or after a meal. I should note that many experts say this is greatly exaggerated and that it's generally ok to drink water with your meals.
    7. Population Density
Many Asian countries & cities are densely populated. There are lots of people living in small apartments and almost everything you need is just round the corner. Leading one to possibly conclude that many Asian people must exert less energy in their daily lives. In actuality, Asian people in this circumstance may end up walking more. With everything being in close proximity, they are more inclined to just walk to their destination, whereas in many Western countries, distances are often too great.
    8. Fermented Foods
Asians consume more fermented foods such as miso, natto, tempeh, kimchi, kombucha, etc, and this is not just good for your gut health, but helps reduce the overall inflammation in the body. And inflammation is a contributing factor to weight gain and obesity.
    9. Snacks & Desserts
This one's quite simple. Asian snacks, healthy, Western snacks, not so much. Asian snacks and desserts may be rice cakes, red beans, seaweed snacks, nuts, seeds, and lots of fruit. For Western snacks and desserts, you have cookies, chips, ice cream, sugary cakes.
    10. Prevention vs Treatment
Asians practice prevention, while others practice treatment. With the Western approach, you have your antibiotics, antacids, NSAIDs, quick, temporary, remedies that might actually hurt you in the long run. The Asian approach attempts to get to the root of the problem using nutrition, healthy habits, prevention practices. It's a societal mindset. Health is not simply the absence of sickness.

    👆🏼 Clarifications:
    - There is some truth to the stereotype that Asian's don't get fat, but it's certainly not a rule.
    - Not all Asian countries are equal. Some countries fit these points better than others.
    - I do not claim that Asians never get fat. In fact, the first thing I say in the video is that there are Asians who are fat.
    - East to Southeast Asian countries are what this stereotype is mainly referring to, hence more of those examples.
    - Non-Asians can easily practice or apply these points too.
    - If you are an Asian but live in a Western country or has a Western influenced diet, many of these points don't apply.
    - Yes, sumo wrestlers are fat (although fat and muscly as hell is more accurate). Again, not a rule. Also they made themselves that size on purpose.
    - I use the all encompassing quoted term 'Asians' (accurate or not) because it's in reference to the stereotype.

Just go for it! Many people with chronic illnesses, especially immune disorders, wear medical masks to protect themselves from catching anything. Some even wear them to protect themselves from things they are sensitive or allergic to, such as smoke, chemicals, certain perfumes and smells, etc. It doesn't matter what other people think of it because it's for your own health and safety, and the safety of others as well if you're sick yourself. I doubt anyone will question it or ask about it aside from family and close friends or coworkers. :) You might get some weird looks since it's not a common thing in America, but nothing more.

    • @AimeeLikesPie1
      @AimeeLikesPie1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +47

go ahead and do it but wearing a mask to prevent germs would be more of a mental thing. in reality, once the mask gets damp from your breath (~30 mins) its not going to stop any bacteria from going through .

If someone wants to refer to "East Asians" specifically, one should use the proper term. Asians is a collective term and a proper representation I think would be more credible. He did cleared up his stand on the matter still, title and script remained as it is and might still cause confusion.

@@mitzilaya2612 That is true, but it is just a common sense that people refer East Asians when they say they are talking about Asians, that because South East and West Asians tend to have different skin color or facial differences compared to East Asians, so most people wouldn't refer to South East Asians or West Asians as "Asians"

Its so shock cause my weight is still the same for 9 years since my high school.. my height stopped when I was in 4th yr highschool so I never gain weight that much since then.. I will very happy when I gain 2 kl but whenever I skip meals I easily lose weight as well.. its really hard to get fat cause even I want to eat more my stomach limit it to the point I vomit if I force it..

I was like, "Is this for lunch and dinner?" She said that it was only for lunch. Of course, I asked her if she deliberately prepared too many meals. She answered that it is just how they normally eat.

It doesn't make any difference what term he uses. We get the concept. If you think he's generalizing the whole of Asia by saying "Asian" then you're one of the few who doesn't connect the dots. When you say "Asian", most people think of East Asia. When you say "the west", most people think of America.
Example: When you say "computer", most people think of a desktop/laptop, not necessarily all computation devices in existence. Connect the dots.

@@LevCallahan Because the video is basically about East Asian characteristics, not others, Southeast Asia has at most some East Asian habits, but still too much mixed with the local indigenous people and the influence of foreign Western colonization, not so pure Eastern Asian eating habits
There are a few mistakes in his video
1: It's not just tea. More hot water is pure hot water
2: I don't know about Japan, Korea and Mongolia, but I'm sure that China likes to eat, not torture. I'm curious about this absurd statement
3: We like to eat vegetables cooked by chefs rather than Western vegetables with a little bit of spices that we don't need. Western vegetable practices sometimes make me wonder (no wonder Westerners hate eating vegetables)

    Also, for the walking thing-
Transportation is costly depending on what vehicle you ride and the distance between A and B. For example, in my old school, the cost of a tricycle from one edge (nearest to the main gate) to the opposite edge (the high school building, ours) costs from ₱7 to ₱20 per person depending on the amount of people riding.
So we walk. Even though we're dying by the time we reach our destination, we walk :'D

government make it more expensive to push people into walking? well, it have sense if it has some logical distance, and/or time in it, i live in méxico and i do not think people can walk to their schools or to the supermarket, even a normal market is pretty far away, if i want to visit a friend, i need to walk 35 minutes, if i want to go to the market i need to walk 10 minutes, if i want to go to a supermarket i need to walk 30 minutes, i can not go to the school walking, if i were going to the same school i were going i would need to take a bus and wait between 1 hour and half, or 3 hours... if i need to go to an hospital i need to take a car or some truck and wait like 2 hours, i think china and japan have better time-space than most latin american countries .-.

Your info about Africa is a bit misleading and actually unnecessary to make your video. The reason why there are lower obesity rates in Africa isn't simply because of "famine" lol. Also you might be surprised to know that factually speaking, Asia is the continent with the most malnutritioned people in the world (two thirds of the worlds hungriest people to be precise). What you did there is like someone making a video about why African tribes are historically known to have lower obesity rates and in the process throw out some low shade to Asians "we all know why Asians have low obesity rates, it's because most of the malnutritioned people in the world live there". All this to say, you don't need to put down another group of people in order to uplift another or to make your point. Aside from that I did enjoy watching your video format.

    • @ron9403
      @ron9403 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

When I was 14, I weighed 54kg and everyone 100% including my family always criticized my body, I had to live shamefully about 6 years after that. That was a horrible span of my lifetime. When I was 22, I weighed 47kg and my body-shape was great, I could fit any clothes and approximately 3 persons gave me compliments about my body. And then when I was 26, gained 5kg. I posted a photo on Facebook and everyone started to criticize my body “fat”, “round”, “like a pig”, even a long lost friend gave me a message “you’re fat”. I hate my people. They are cruel.

It's also kind of ingrained in us to cook fresh food for ourselves. Whether you follow their footsteps, and become fat, or decide to take your own path, learn about healthy food and exercise and become jacked is up to you my friend. And I think the reason in that just because of metabolism...If you have a faster metabolism literally your not gaining much of waight weighther you eat to much.It literally digest easily. And maybe other factors is because our weather is sunny, sometimes rainy, but mostly sunny day,so the weighther is Hot, literally if you don't have aircon or electric fan,you will lose so water weight cause you keep on sweeting.

For the portioning, we also have sayings that you shouldn't eat until you're full but until you're around 70% full, and we don't have that many snack breaks either unless we're kids and still growing.

    The food in 8:12 are:
    Miso soup, Japan (top left)
    Natto, Japan (bottom left)
    Tempe, Indonesia (top right)
    Baechu-kimchi, Korea (bottom right)
I only know a little bit on kimchi and tempe.
Kimchi: the one in the video was baechu-kimchi which is a whitte cabbage kimchi. There are many types of kimchi it can be from cabbage, spinach, radish, cucumber, mustard leaf and many more. The typical kimchi people know are red and spicy but kimchi it self has a meaning of salted or fermented so the spicy red is just a habit of asian people liking spicy food. People who only had regular kimchi from the supermarket/restaurant(outside of korea) would probably know them for their sweet, spicy, and sour but fresh kimchi are sweet, spicy and a little salty.
Tempe/tempeh: in english it's called tempeh but in Indonesia it's called tempe and is pronounced differently and different pronunciation can be offensive to Indonesian because it can also mean a rough language of a womens genitalia. Tempes are made out of soy beans and yeast that basically all then after some process of cleaning, submerging, boiling, and pealing the beans are given yeast and wrapped in banana leaf for 1-2 days and so whenyouopen it it should have white cotton like things in them which are the mushrooms that help the fermentation process. It's healthy and doesn't bring any healt issues also kinda bland if not prepared well cause they're just beans.

Just got back to Spain after 2 years in China, I can add a couple things: we have our dinner at 9pm or even later, some of my friends standard is eating at 11:30pm! while Chinese people eat at 5:30 to 7. In addition, their breakfast is well balanced (not only cereals or cookies with milk) and they have lunch at 12 so they don't starve compared to us, we both have breakfast at aprox the same time but Spaniards due to working timetables then usually wait 6-7 hours till 2 to 3 pm for the lunch, which forces us to snack in between meals. Vegetables in China are done tastily so all the foreigners who wouldn't take them back home don't need to make an effort to eating them, it's just natural as well. Chinese do eat a lot of meat but always in a broader context, they're not such "meat and taters" eaters (actually after the more refined way of eating meat in smaller portions, finely cut and well seasoned, back home meat-wise I regard ourselves as the Fintstones). They make some of the nastiest cheap deep frying but they more extensively boil and steam as cooking methods. They eat some sweets, bakery etc but they don't eat them as a dessert, as we do, for an extra insuline boost that will make us store the most of carbs and fat from the whole meal. But rather than sweets, Chinese people have a 'strange' cult for fruits, which are almost some of the most precious goods for them and they would never give them away for sweets. Also, due to the structure of their economy and land devoted to agriculture, most of the time their groceries don't have a wide offer of quality milk and dairy products with a big part of them being imported and relatively expensive, which is seen as a con, but traditionally not incorporating loads of cheese, butter or cream into their dishes has made their diet less fatty and their digestion faster too. To finish I will say Chinese, even the oldest ones, take physical activeness as a necessity and while sometimes very relaxed, they try not to miss a day.
Yep...we still need to learn a lot and it's extremely pitiful given that we have a much more restrictive legislation and an all-year round supply of fresh products, no need to freeze-dry or preserve them, but the habits still don't come together.

Omega 3 comes from the sea plants. Excellent points. Plant foods, unmolested tea, exercise, portions, etc, are big factors.
