How to remove and instal an injector 98 dodge 24V cummins 2nd gen

  • I replaced all of them but just show how to do one so people can get the idea of how to do them. This is a 98 dodge 3500 5.9 diesel Cummins 5spd Getrag 360 trans.

    Sweet gave me a lil more confidence in doing mine.. Now how to bleed the system

      Just loosen 1,3 and 4 injector lines at the head and turn the motor over till you see diesel come out then tighten them up and start it. It will skip for a few seconds and you will probably get a check engine light you will have to clear after but that is normal just clear it and check for leaks.

      They self-bleed from what I know, you don’t have to crank long before it’ll start and bleed itself out

      Its really not to bad of a job it's just the stinky diesel takes about 10 washes to get it off you.

    I have a shutter apon acceleration. And at 1st line is leaking fuel can that be the cause

      Yes, that's possible and dangerous too. Diesel is nasty when it gets hot then catches on fire. Very hot flame hard to put out..

    Great video! I have a 99 24V Cummings that has a hot fuel leak coming from the back of the motor just above the bell house on the starter side. I’m catching heck trying to find it! Any info is appropriated!

      There are a few spots to check one is the #6 inj line at the inj nozzle cross tube and the others are the return line T and banjo fitting and they are at the back of the motor and hard to see. It's a clean and feal-for leak kinda thing.

      @@scottsinfl thanks! It was #3-4 at the injectors. I guess the fan was blowing it back on the starter area.

      Have the same problem with mine,it's a bitch to reach,lay a cushion over the engine and lay face down left handed to reach the banjo bolt.i replaced the 2 banjo seals and it helped but didn't completely fix my issue,think I may need to replace my injectors I'm at 280k miles and never replaced .I've got low mpg,and poor power

      @@scottsinfl hi mine started leakin at #5 #6 Injector nut right under the threads like very little like a mist kinda ..cleaned jf and sand it down a little for it to sit nicely but still gettin small leaks..teflon or liquid sealant do u think might work or what would be a fix for this?? I've taken it off and retighten maybe more than 20 30 times from. Snug to tight tight and still the same..plz help need truck for work

      Just loosen the 1-2 and # 4 injector lines and turn the engine till you see diesel start to come out then tighten them and start it. It may run a little rough for about 30 seconds to a min. but it will clear up and run.

      I hate the smell that stays with you for days you can't wash it off with 20 scrubs. Nasty stuff!! I do like that torque its got.

      The funny thing that happened after I hooked the battery up. I forgot to calibrate the pedal position sensor and I got down the road and went to turn around and it went wide open throttle on me just as I was turning in the medium. It launched me quick lucky its a stick and I killed it with the clutch. Yeeehaaa its hard to kill them diesel.

      Im sorry its been to long I do remember using my inch pound torque wrench on the injector retaining plate bolts themself and the lines I think where done with a whench without some speacial torque wrench. There is a seating proses to make the cross tube fit just right and if you don't do it right it will mess up the cross tube or injector or both.

      After the first 4 you can do them blindfolded because you can see what you're doing on the last 2 anyway. lol
