Second song from "The Slipper and the Rose". Sung by the King and Queen to Prince Edward. It is also one of the deleted scenes from the short version of the movie.
Its the Dowager Queens comment -"We are not prepared to say!" That makes me laugh every time I watch this - mind you I have seen this over 200 times (and that's no exaggeration). I LOVE THIS FILM !!!!!!!!!
The one good thing you gave to me, mum. I'll sing them all to my child too, that's how I choose to remember you now. Singing me sweet songs as a child for years until I was old enough to watch the film with you and sing along. I'll keep this as a family tradition. Thanks mum x
This Movie is my companion since childhood. Now for more than 35 years. With a friend we tried to perform the waltz „Suddenly“ back then. We loved it so much.
When you think of arrange marriage among royalty with one not wanting it it is mostly the princess that doesn't want to be married off so I like when there is a reversal like this with seeing the Prince saying no to it.
Makes me think of Michael Hordern in another musical film - A Funny Thing That Happened on the Way to the Forum: "Son, if you're only as happy as your mother and I have been... my heart bleeds for you."
I know Prince Edward u want to marry for love but your parents want u to marry for alliance to stop war which is unfair but cinderella has a lot harder she lost her mother and father and made to be a servant in her own home but she has a fairy godmother now thank goodness
Well...very obliquely, yes (this film was primarily for children, after all, so they couldn't really say it in so many words). For royalty, marriages were usually contracted for reasons of state (primarily in order to exchange resources and maintain the line of succession) while love and romance were strictly kept hush-hush.
“Who let him in here!” Best part of the musical 😂😂

I LOVE the prince's cousin! He's so delightfully foppish and ridiculous!
I love every ounce of this musical!

So recently I had the great honour of playing Montague in this local theatre production of The Slipper and the Rose, how awesome it was.
"There's someone in the room!" I love the queen mother.
"We are not prepared to say!"
Me too!

Those 2 are my favourite characters!
They're both just so amazing in these roles.
Inspired casting in Sir Michael Horden as the King and Dame Edith Evans as the dowager Queen. Sublime

I found Montague rather sinister. Quite prepared to usurp his cousin.
