It does kind of subvert the story in many ways. He fell in love with a peasant girl knowing she was a peasant girl and she fell in love with a prince thinking he was a peasant. It feels like a more level plane field. Yes he did lie, but you can understand why he did it and he owns up to it. Probably one of the healthier depictions of this romance that ive seen.
I love Leslie Caron in everything she does especially Lili. She exudes that innocent naivety and childish wisdom of hopes, dreams, and wishes. Plus she dances so beautifully that every time I see a music box or a snow globe with a ballerina inside I always imagine it's her. I never understood the Cinder-Ella of Cinderella until watching this movie and it should seem to be obvious, but sometimes I'm just oblivious to things. I miss these big production dance scenes from older movies. That's why I'm always watching TCM. This is a beautiful one. I love the wise woman's dialogue of what fashion is when she's helping Ella dress for the ball...So true is every word.
I’ve watched this movie dozens of times over the years but just realized that the star, Leslie Caron, is a beloved actor that I’ve adored in several other movies including Chocolate & The Durrells… just watched this again tonight and I’m just as mesmerized by her!
Charming is a perfect word to describe her. Thank you for your wisdom. I enjoyed reading your words and couldn't agree with you more. Happy 2020! May it bring you much happiness and joy.
Love this version!! Saw it as when I was 7 and just fell in love with it Great cast! Love Cinderella's dress!!! Wish the whole film was here for free!!!!!
I love this Cinderella who she looking a job with benfits and security. Love is just icing on the cake to her. I was hoping Diseny would do this version.
The Prince first meets Cinderella earlier in the film out in the woods while he's out riding with his friend and dressed in much plainer clothes, with the result that she doesn't recognize him -- he tells her that he's the son of the cook (which is why she tries to ask directions to the kitchen). At one point, she pushes him in the water and runs off because she thinks he's making fun of her -- but when she comes back to get something she left behind, he's still there and waiting for her...and once they've patched things up, he teaches her to dance.

I don't understand why she isn't dressed normally for the 18th century. The pixie cut looks ridiculous on her in this setting. And the gown is more like 1860 than 1780. She must have gotten a cut rate fairy godmother who wasn't up with the times. And why is she so rude to the host and his son? Very unsatisfactory.
In this version of the story, the fairy godmother is still a fairy but she doesn't tell Cinderella that she's a fairy and therefore doesn't use her powers very much. She pretends to be a crazy old woman who's living out in the woods all by herself. Cinderella befriends her because they're both outcasts. The fairy godmother pretends that she stole the dress and the shoes from Cousin Lulu, who according to one of the stepsisters did have a dress like that one. My guess is that they decided not to put Leslie Caron in a wig in this scene because they wanted to make certain she stood out more easily in the crowd shots...but in the story, her hair is short because she lost her temper and cut it off.
Love this version...gets all dolled up not to met the prince but the cook

@@sweeney60 I agree! Though he’s hiding something, they fall for one another as equals. She isn’t intimidated by his status when she gets to know him.
If I were to go to a ball like this I would just show up for the three F the fun the friends and the food 😂😂
Cinderella shows up, doesn’t talk to anyone, asks where the kitchen is. Relatable.
Cinderella’s ball gown is absolutely stunning and contrasts nicely with the other ball gowns
I just love the king.
He puts so much fun and spirit in his character.
He's a host you want to meet- and should!!!! :)
He's actually a Duke if I'm not mistaken
@@thebeatnumber I think your right. I just remembered that the son was a prince 🤴.

I also like how they added practicalness to this Cinderella

Never knew of this movie until it came up as a suggestion.
I can’t decide which movie I like better, this one, The Slipper and the Rose, or R&H’s Cinderella (1965)
Lesley Ann Warren will always be Cinderella to me. Born in 1962.
I like any version of “Cinderella” ; boys and girls, men and women can all identify with her.
@@missnancy-g9w All three are good in many unique ways.
Such good movies, all of them!
I'll take all of them!

The beautiful & talented Leslie Caron: marvelous, ty.
I love that they ask who she is, even though she is the ONLY one with short black hair and easily recognizable
I remember this movie! So lovely!
Although Michael Wilding was too old for this part he was so attractive it blows my mind.
Leslie Caron is so lovely! This dress is gorgeous!
I had the same hair cut, no one thought I was an Egyptian princess

Soooo gorgeous!!!
stunning
I love this movie so much , and I have the dvd of it
I love the waltz
Outfits of the Prince & Ella are literally the same ones Emma & Dan are wearing during the finale of Beauty & the Beast 2017.
I came here because Little Edie from the Grey gardens documentary mention this actress.
I just wish she didn’t just drop the slipper... it should have fallen off naturally from her foot
amazing version! this is so similar to Richard Chamberlein´s!!!!
Me gusta mucho esta Cenicienta primero la vi en blanco y negro y después la vi a colores por favor les pido qué me la ponga entera habla en español
Enchantred cinderella by leslie caron❤
There's Baldwinsville baths amd washes here!
It was Drew Barrymore who said it in the movie.
wow she runs super fast for that much fabric
Awesome
Apparently one of the extras in this scene is Barbara Stanwyck's older brother.
What color is Birdena’s dress
Yellow
Now I can see where Cogsworth came from!
Michael Wilding was married to Elizabeth Taylor (2nd husband) when he did this movie.
I read that's what they cut her hair that short for. Elizabeth style of the time
Lilly
I like how Prince Charming is a middle-age man - too funny!
Wow did Megan Fox travel back in time to star in this movie the girl on the far left at 1:52 looks exactly like her lol 💖🌸
En castellano o español
Never seen this one
It’s a farce?
How is calling this second walz?
