I am singing this tonight at Christmas Eve Midnight Mass, St. James' Anglican, Vancouver, 2022. It has been 12 years since the last time - too long. One of the most beautiful motets I have had the honour and privilege to sing. God Bless.
Incredible. I tear up every time I hear it.
Absolutely beautiful.. heavenly... anointed piece of music x
Profound!!!! The solo is incredible.
Toby was outstanding in this piece!
toby ward the soloist is fab in this..
coventry cathedrals tenor is so much better, so much more life and he sings high up on the left side of the big window (i think its called west screen).
@@OccyDaBoss oh just shut up
This is just sooooo coooooooool
What A Wonderful Sound.
This is stunning! Merry Christmas!!
Looking forward to sing this carol this year
Oh wow 🥰
Like I said, EAP, Happy B-Day
Extraordinary! This remind me Rachmaninoff and Russia!!!
That's what you might call an accidental insult. Well-meaning ethnocentrism?
@@Levantine68 Greek not Russian
@@Flipdrivel It essentially impossible to be a musician and an Orthodox Christian and not be familiar with Russian Choral music, regardless of one's own particular jurisdiction. But Tevener specifically WAS a member of the Russian Church in Britain.
Nikolai B. That's perfectly true but not really relevant to the question of how this could remind anyone of Rachmaninov!
@@Flipdrivel You've not come across the Vespers? Beautiful liturgical Russian music. I can see the similarity too.
Interesting to compare with the 2007 version at th-cam.com/video/9haxjywIDVQ/w-d-xo.html
The soloist stayed in tune in the 2007 version!
2:22-2:26 The soloist goes a little sharp here but otherwise that was a splendid performance!
What absolute twaddle! (Your comment, not the fabulous solo....)
@@chriscoull1156 Maybe it sound perfectly fine for you, however, the soloist did actually go sharp there, it was fortunate that the rest of the choir was not affected by that. I have perform this piece with several lay clerks from different renowned cathedrals, and not all of them was able to keep it in tune. But this is a well-known issue for this piece, which is why this specific piece is usually sung by soloists who have perfect pitch to mitigate it.
@@VincentNN of which cathedral? Do name the cathedral choir's....since u know so much
@@thesaucegroup1877 if I remember correctly, the soloist I sang with was from Chichester, and one tenor from Durham, one from Bristol, one countertenor from Queen's Cambridge, and a bass from St. Mary's Edinburgh.
And no, I don't know much about vocal/cathedral choir, it just happened that I was fortunte enough to sing along with them.
@@VincentNN ahh I see, that's a rather exotic mix. Was this in a concert setting with singers from all professional cathedral backgrounds? Or did you sing in each cathedral that these respective singers were from? Thanks for your reply btw, appreciate it
As an organ scholar in my youth witnessing the obscene hypocracy of child sex abuse behind the scenes I managed somehow to hang onto my sanity by experiencing the choral tradition as evidence our species weren’t all tainted with original sin. In my dotage I still immerse myself in this music, still not experiencing as anything like proof of the existence of a deity, let alone a deity who tortured his own son ( who is himself if you swallow trinitarian theology undigested) to redeem sins he knowingly made possible by granting us free will. Anyhow, enjoy the music kiddies. .
Oh stfu and get out. You're not wanted
Gosh, that’s a lot Dissily.
