I really like the Weber here, not a big Weber fan but I get the fuss with this amp/speaker combo. The first open G & D chords sound great. The ceramic Oxford sounds a bit jarring with the upper mids/treble content.
Thanks for making the video. I've been trying to explain to someone what the final differences are and your video accomplished what words could not. I prefer Alnico speakers (and pickups for that matter) in my amps. I have an early '80s Rivera Era Fender Super Champ. The stock ceramic speaker is brittle and spiky. The highs grate on my nerves and there is no warmth in the midrange. The bottom end tends to be flabby too. It's not the amp as I've determined for myself, so I'm looking for a speaker that won't break the bank. Again thanks for the video.
Loved the sound of your other demo of the build and would have liked to hear both speakers in a mix with backing track. The Oxford sounded great in that demo and very vintage but here by itself it seemed to flub out with the bass which may have not been noticed in a mix. Here the Weber sounded to tighten the bass a bit. Both sounded good and the Weber will surely open up more as it breaks in. Really nice sounding amp, did you go with the carbon comp resistors ? Sprague or F&T caps? ..... thanks for the demo! ..... nice playing by the way!
Wow that’s a drastic difference... the first speaker sounds a lot better.... the second speaker didn’t sound bad just a little brittle and less broken in than the first... but definitely the first sounds amazing!!!!
The Weber has more of a blues tone with a slight cool nasal quality to it. It compresses being alnico which is nice to feel while playing. I think it sounds better than the first one. The first one was a lil rough sounding. Maybe cause the guitar was so out of tune. You played better through the Weber as well. Amp sounds better with the Weber. SOunds like it should in my opinion. Did you stay with the Weber?
It honestly depends on the amp. I am thinking about making a video trying to show off the amps i built a little more, which would go into that a little in depth.
Sounded much better the ceramic oxford, fuller and more balanced response, while the alnico weber sounded boxy and thin, almost like if you had a closed wah on the amp.
i got a celestion gold alnico. wow its worth 300. ive never heard a speaker so good. idk if its the alnico or the quality of the other parts but it sure is the most organic complex midrange and smoothest deep bass and the highs are sound so broken in. i was so sceptical but yea. the celstion gold is gold.
will the alnico speaker loosen up and change it's sound after a few years ? , the first speaker sounder looser for want of a better word. both sounded good but different . .
@@uhMaxx so there is no slack between the gears. If you tune up to the note, the string tension is held firmly by the gears. If you tune down to the note there is a gap between the gears and when you bend strings the tuning peg will spin down in that gap and loose some tension...
Different speakers with different ages and different production processes. Well, in that case I wouldn't consider the comparison as scientifically usable. (: Just my two cents..
yeah that's a mystery..chose the weber myself. FWIIW I played a Vox AC30 through a UK made Greenback and a Sig12 alnico(same cone as 12a125a) and that pairing was killer. The greenback gave ceramic quickness in lows and mids and the alnico sig provided more highs, which compress nicely..not terribly loud but plenty to keep with a drummer,a cutting yet smooth tone..
Wow ! That Weber 12A125A made a HUGE difference in tone !!
I'm on the phone this morning to get one for my 5E3 build I just finished.
The first one is much better, well balanced. just put a tube screamer to get the sound of the 2nd one. Best of both worlds.
I have 2 Weber 10A125 in my tweed Bassman (reissue with a 5F6-A circuit upgrade), they're great. Weber 12A150 is the one for this amp.
Damn, you got the Texas Flood tone

Weber alnico wins here. Just enough compression to trim the amp's wilder hairs and produce a warmer, more musical sound.

Both good speakers
The oxfords sound good for chords but it's a rock sound to me
That 12a125-a is excellent and more versatile as well imo
I thought the 1st one (Oxford) sounded better myself.
Alnico rocks. And superb blue playing :-)
just ordered a weber off the back of this for my 5e3 ... it so suits the fequency curve of the amp ... whats your conclusion?
Wow that’s a drastic difference... the first speaker sounds a lot better.... the second speaker didn’t sound bad just a little brittle and less broken in than the first... but definitely the first sounds amazing!!!!
Great demo. Sounds fantastic. What brand amp are you using?
Thanks
This is an amp that I built and I have been trying to build them to order.
Great tone man! I’d pick number two. What kind of strat/pickups do you have?
I was wondering the same thing myself. Sounds like maybe Texas Special.

Alnico hands down
Hey how does the new weber speaker take the pedals? Could you make another vid? :)

Weber all the way. Nice job. Thanks
Useless, by the time you start playing the second speaker, we forgot what the first sounded like.
You need a tuner
Sorry

Yes it will. This speaker was fresh out of the box and has since broken in and sounds actually quite different.
When tuning strings you should always go below the note and tune it up ^ to frequency.
Nice sound rig tho, alnico sounds best!!!!
why is that

Nice pickin, When I tune down a half step I always have to reset the intone
Rock solid tuning BEFORE you hit record!
Oh yeah. The Weber needs to stay in that amp!!
Thanks for the comparison video!!! :)
Out of tune and the guitar is muddy at that high of volume
Right!
Alnico gets my Vote
weber is always the way to go.

sounds like wood. Try hemp you will never go back.
aw yeah
Apparently, somebody is a smoker.....
Omg tune
weber by a mile
will likely try in my 5b3
very helpful dont know why so many dislikes
yeah that's a mystery..chose the weber myself.

Whichever I can bear longer at high volume levels is what I care about.
The ceramic speaker blew in my Bandmaster when it was cranked up, id bet on the alnico
Start the video out with tuning? Really? Great way to lose a crowd...
Nah ...
