"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on TH-cam. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on TH-cam, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

I don't think any rational person can look at what has been happening (and what has even been said!), accept the facts, and come to any other conclusion. They are trying to make sure that every Palestinian is either 6 feet under or does not have a home left in the region. And, in fact, Israeli officials have even said as much in both subtle and overt ways.
But ask any of them directly about it, framing the situation up exactly as you see it, and they will lie through their teeth to try and preserve a face of innocent victim for Israel. Hamas (as repugnant a group as they are) is seemingly more honest than the Israeli government!

1. The 1949 Geneva Conventions declare it illegal to purposefully target civilians as an act of war.
2. Hamas does *not* act on behalf the Palestinian people in the same way that Putin does *not* act on behalf of the Russian people. Fact of the matter is neither of them give a damn about the well-being of any civilian population - including their own - and people who oppose them will likely be killed. You can call Hamas 'state actor' all day long, but that does not legitimize the bombing of innocent civilians.
3. You mention yourself that the world has changed 'since Vietnam'. Your examples may illustrate western hypocrisy, but how does this legitimize what Israel is doing to Gaza? You could also mention the thousands of US drone strikes that are still occurring till this day and have caused thousands of civilian casualties. It doesn't matter who is committing the crimes, they should *all* be condemned.
4. Dropping more than 7000 bombs on Gaza to 'break the fanatical enemy' will achieve *nothing.* If anything, it will further *strengthen* Hamas and severely destabilize the region. All at the cost of slaughtering many thousands of innocent civilians. Israeli officials have literally stated that their intent is to wipe out *all* Palestinians, not just Hamas. Please explain how their actions till now don't qualify as acts of genocide.
And the Palestinains did accept the 67 borders in the Oslo accords, which fell apart not because of military action by any Palestinian, but by a right wing Israeli Zionist assassination

P.s, if the subject of PSSD ever comes up on your radar to report on (it's just begun breaking thru into American media via the NYT), from one human to another, I wanted to ask you to at least remain agnostic on the issue, it'd mean a lot to me. Due to the nature of the subject, the right often likes to report on it more than the left, much to my dismay.
He shouldn't be. Save your money and find facts that come from the ground. Kyle is just commenting on what's been reported by other sources, which are often highly flawed or partisan. So, go listen to some sources you think you might disagree with as well as those that you do. Look for facts, not spin.

Israel didn't just oppose peace plans at the United Nations. Rabin was the Israeli president who got the closest ever to a peace plan between Israel and Palestine and he was assassinated for it, not by Palestinians, but by Israelis. I am very disappointed in Kyle however because while there were 45% civilian casualties on the 7th many of those were probably caused by the Israeli IDF response which Hamas waited hours for. Hamas rebels actually waited hours and hours, telling their captives to call the IDF in, waiting for the IDF to show up, and the IDF most likely killed many hostages along with Hamas hostage takers.

I’m only half Jewish, but I did grow up attending synagogue services and interacting a lot with the Jewish community, especially with those in my family. It’s so disappointing to see this. Rabbis were always comforting figures to be around. They were always great at telling stories and lifting people’s spirits, without being boring like a midwestern church pastor. Yet, bring up what’s happening to Palestinians with *some* of them (because there are pro-Palestinian rabbis and Jewish leaders), and that humanity and warmheartedness goes right out the window. Just, why?

Now, after watching how many Jews and pro-Israeli have been conducting themselves on social media, and watching how the Israeli government has been conducting themselves... This is why, right now, many people I know who are usually very loud on social justice issues are remaining quiet on social media. While they are doing the work behind the scenes, they dont want to say something about this where a few sentence will not speak to the complexity of their thinking. I have friends who have spoken up for Palestinians and got attacked and identified as being antisemitic. To be honest, my wife and I have close Jewish friends, who politically we agree 100%, but they are all pro Israel at the moment. Hopefully we have a a good enough relationship to ask their thoughts on the matter as we know that they are pro Israel state from what we know. They admit that this is a very different stance compared to all the other political beliefs they have.
All in all, this type of rhetoric does not help. Cenk is clearly not antisemitic, and I can only assume this rabbi cares about what Judaism teaches. People have to stop assuming that the friend of my enemy is my enemy and those to do not love everything about me is my enemy. You can disagree with what a country is doing yet care about its people. I am Korean and I am not fond of the Japanese government but I love the country and hope to live their some day. This type of "deabate" set up doesn't help at all.
Many of the people advocating for a ceasefire are in fact Jewish themselves highlighting 'not in our name.' Israel has a right to exist but so do the Palestinians.
