Well, you're very fortunate indeed because the ozone has nothing to do with killing an algae bloom so there must have been something else that got rid of it for you. The ozone will help you clarify your water however so that combined with your ability to eliminate the algae has led to a very pristine and clear pool for you. Congratulations!
Everything I have read says to install ozone generators after the pump/filter. It looks like you have installed it before the pump/filter. Any input on this ?
The AOP unit he has (it's a bank of ozone modules combined with a UV-C disinfection lamp that makes hydroxyl radicals) is installed on a sidestream that's plumbed after the filter. Some ozone units attach to the threaded hole where the winterizing plug is normally fixed on a pool pump. This isn't a good idea for a couple of reasons: 1) This method puts a lot of compressed air into the filter tank which reduces its filtration capacity and creates a serious injury risk should the tank top be removed without first bleeding the air and, 2) It has no means by which to adjust itself to varying flow rates, thereby reducing its effectiveness.
