You only mention turning the humidifier off when changing the canister, not cutting the power at the breaker box as directed in many other videos. Do you need to cut off power at the breaker (or at the disconnect switch to the furnace/AC to which many humidifiers are wired)?
Thank you for contacting AprilAire! We recommend cutting the power at the breaker which helps reset the memory of the 800 and recognize a new canister was installed.
I have 3000sf two story home in Delaware. Geothermal heat pump with ECM. House is between tight and average. Trying to install 800 model next week. Trying to size my wiring. I’m doing 240V. The only question I have should I go with 11 amps or 16 amps setting? Thank you!
Thank you for contacting AprilAire! We would suggest the use of 10-12 gauge wire. If using a 11.5 amp setting, you will want to use a 20 amp breaker and if on 16 amp, you should use a 25 amp breaker. If you have any additional questions, we would be happy to assist.
@@aprilaireco for condition of my house do you think 11.5 is enough? I’m afraid to put 16. How much difference it makes in real world. I connected my fieldpiece probes. @@kastenusa The Model 800 Humidifier will output 23.3 gallons per day of moisture on the 11.5 setting at 240V. On the 16 amp setting at 240V, the unit would create 34.6 gallons per day. @@aprilaireco Thanks for writing back. I have called customer service and they were unable to help because I didn't know how to do an "amp draw". They said all Aprilaire certified HVAC places go through one hour of training every year and should be able to do that, but I've had four out to my place that are listed on your website and they just say that since the unit is hot it must be working and at $150 a visit, I can't keep doing that and I just about could have bought a new unit for the cost of the visits from them. I would be glad to do the training if available.
@@indyregen Thank you for your additional feedback. We are very sorry for the experience you've had. I own a 1,900 sqft. home is my home too small to have this unit installed. My main reason for choosing this model is that if I use a model 700 I have a tankless water heater and I don’t think it will supply the necessary hot water that is required.
Thank you for contacting AprilAire! If you can install the Model 700 on your hot air supply duct, you will not necessarily need hot water and may get sufficient humidity. Otherwise, an AprilAire Steam Humidifier would be a good option which also does not require hot water. If you have any additional questions, we would be happy to assist.

@@lsglass a contractor had this unit installed for us in the lab of a clinic and as I was saying it was spitting water all over. Steve - The install instructions indicates 'minimum 16" clearance" to the right of the mounted unit for ' electrical access'. . . . When I lay out the unit, , this doesn't seem necessary - can you give some additional insight (I have a narrow / tight install spot unless I modify). Thanks.
Hi Mike - Thank you for your patience on this. This clearance is needed to access the internal circuit board for wiring and set-up during installation as well as future possible troubleshooting and service work. We have seen many installations in which a steam humidifier has been installed in a cramped location and something as simple as changing a DIP switch or reconnecting a loose wire has required the Model 800 to be removed and then reinstalled. The performance of the Model 800 will not be affected, so if no other location is feasible, then as long as the contractor and homeowner understand that possible service work in the future may be difficult, it should be fine.
