Then at the end when Pipes manages to possess Michael Parkinson (the male host) in the studio that really scared the shit out of me. Two other shows sprang to mind while watching this: 1) ’Ghostwatch' reminded me of Paul Daniels 'Iron Maiden' stunt on his live Halloween special. Once again, the BBC switchboard was jammed with calls out of concern for Paul. Ironically, Daniels schemed it up in the aftermath of 2) the tragic death of the member of the public who was invited to perform a stunt on Noel Edmonds 'The Late Late Breakfast Show’, just months before. The show was understandly cancelled and Noel spoke candidly about how it affected him.

    Two of the red triangle broadcasts were two banned violent episodes of The Professionals, which didn't appear unedited on DVD until years later. As a fan of that show I taped them. Now I have the DVD box set with all the episodes restored, which have never been shown unedited or sometimes at all on television.
    The Sweeney has shared the same fate, because what you see on television, is not what was originally shown in the seventies and early eighties.

    • @jane1975
      @jane1975 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @julianaylor4351: ITV4 cuts The Sweeney, I remember when it was repeated on the then new station UK Gold in the 90's which was for BBC and the former ITV franchise, Thames Television and it showed those scenes and language that ITV now cuts because its not PC. They should leave it as it is, its what the 1970's were like, the DVD sets of course will be the full non PC versions as they were as the VHS versions I had of a couple of episodes. There is this one scene in The Sweeney episode "Abduction" the one where Jack's daughter is kidnapped, because he has got to close to some robbers dealings, this scene where Jack Regan [ the much missed John Thaw ] is talking to his informant, this old guy and is being watched by I think the robbers and two women walk by him and the old guy, and one of them is wearing a white pleated gymskirt and she bends down and shows her pants and Jack is watching her and his informant says to him " I could be arrested for what you were thinking" and Jack just smirks and says "You could" and walks away and then see from afar the robbers wind the window up and the two women are just walking towards the camera. That was cut to just the robbers winding up their window. In the same episode George and Jack are interviewing Wanda Ventam and she calls them Bastards and that word is cut. That's about the only swear word that was said on TV, in cinema they had more freedom which is why the second film Spinoff of the series [Sweeney 2 from 1978 filmed 1977 ]you hear John Thaw say the F word, but on National Television that word was not used in the UK until the 90's. I don't give flying whatever's that the series was non PC, I was born the year it broadcast - they should leave it alone uncut and show what it was like in its non PC glory, not cut it. Its the reason why I haven't watched The Gentle Touch repeats on ITVX [ and I was fan of the show when I watched on the old channel, Granada Plus, I was too young to watch it when it originally broadcast ] because I know they will cut that too and ruin a great programme because again for non PC language or behaviour of which was of its time.

    • @julianaylor4351
      @julianaylor4351 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jane1975 I was watching the uncut episodes late at night, as a teenager, the only way to be these episodes uncut is an anniversary DVD box set. When you consider that the Sweeney films were much more violent than the television series and that the series itself, is far less violent than many modern horror movies, it's really just double standards because some people want to whitewash the past. Wanda is Benedict Cumberbatch's mother. The uncut DVD box sets are really all that's left off the real thing, you can find through companies who sell old films and television shows on DVD, it was also how I got hold of the uncut version of John Boorman's Excalibur, which a violent telling of the Arthurian legend. Get your trousers on... you're nicked. 😁

Merton Himself had been subject of several "Newsworthy Stories" which Deyton ripped him a new arsehole over... So when the "Squeaky Clean" Angus Deyton was caught with his pants down, Quite Literally might I add... Of Course Merton was going to go hard!
      And when I say "Squeaky Clean" Image... I am of course referring to Viewers who only knew Angus Deyton from being a BBC Host... Angus Deyton is very well known for his rather Blue Comedy, Being one of the Group "The HeeBeeGeeBees", But all this predates his BBC career and many don't know that part of his past!

      where Savile's perversion was apparently well known and considered an open secret,
      where Jill Dando allegedly raised concerns about a pedophile ring there,
      who referred to grooming and statutory rape as a "sexual relationship" in a headline,
      and whose Broadcasting House is adorned with a staute of a naked young boy and an old man that was sculpted by a known pedophile, that it has constantly refused to have removed,

    Ghostwatch was one of the best paranormal thats ever aired in the UK..I had just moved in to my very first apartment with my girlfriend..
    I was always a big paranormal fan, but this took it to another level. It seems quite tame nowadays but it had 75% of the viewers terrified, according to the stats after the show.
    When my partner an i went to bed after the show we were still terrified. Next min i heard this rumble on top of my wardrobe, and the door of the wardrobe was wide open. My girl asked me to get out of bed and shut the door, i was too scared to do so but i did then bolted across the room back into bed. Then the rumble started again. My girl was hyperventilating during this, then the door opened slowly again. both of us were cuddling each other out of fright.. 10 mins later i had to get up and close the door, this time i put my hand along the top of the wardrobe, this time i found a golf ball.
    This was what was making the rumble noises as it rolled about the top of the wardrobe.
    Ill never forget that night, Ghost watch was the icing on the cake.
    A boy committed suicide after mistaking the central heating noise to ghosts in the house.
    All in all it fucked me and a few others for a few days.
    Great stuff BBC.

    10:48 yes I remember in school slapping people round the face (using both hand like in the advert) and shouting “you’ve been Tangoed”. It first started off doing to boys who were drinking Tango or just having a can in their hand. But it soon turned into slapping boys round the face and saying “you’ve been Tangoed” without them drinking/holding a can of Tango, most of the boys were doing it. The whole “you’ve been Tangoed” phase went on for months with the most common way to get someone was to come up behind usually when they were talking to people as it was “funnier” when 3 or 4 people saw it, then you’d call their name and you’d slap them when they turned around. In the end the teachers were handing out week long detentions for it and every break/recess except lunch you had to stay in and write lines like “I must no hit my fellow students” on 2 pages of A4 paper front and back

Then at the end when Pipes manages to possess Michael Parkinson (the male host) in the studio that really scared the shit out of me. Interesting List... Here are some of my thoughts...
    20: Ghostwatch - WOW What a shit show that was... I was still young ay the time and fascinated by the Supernatural, so when I saw the adverts on TV, I eagerly checked the TV Guides... And I do recall at least from the TV Guides I read that there was some serious miscommunication!
    I did find an old TV Guide from back in the day when the show aired, and ... Yeah! Many listed it as a Live Documentary!!! If I can find it, I will upload an image to Google to show I am not talking out of my arse... Not going to lie, Even when I realised with Parkinson being Possessed that it was all Fake, it still scared the shit out of me!
    19: Angus Deyton - YEAH, The BBC REALLY dropped a bollock with this one... I used to love HIGNFY, And Angus Deyton was a perfect host! All of them, Ian Hislop, Paul Merton and Deyton clearly knew the news and Hislop and Merton were not going to go easy - And didn't! It was BRILLIANT!
    And given what we now know about Jimmy Saville... Yeah, They should have just let it go! I have to say while I still enjoyed HIGNFY even after Deyton resigned... It was never as good as when he was Host!

    • @VeritasAbsoluta

      I think the reason given for Angus being booted was that "the show was supposed to be about the news, but now he's become the news" or something along those lines. They should have just let it carry on. It was always funny when Merton and Hislop would direct something at Angus.
