yeah the romantic fantasy in the mind of a killer, is easily forgiven when put to a beautiful melody and the deep passion, need and humanity brought out of it. From the dark spaces into the open
My Best Friend, my brother in-law. But most of all. My true Mexican. It’s been 4 years and I still can’t believe that your not here with us anymore... my boys miss you your family but most of all, I Miss you. R.I.P Nick Lopez...!!!!
I will never ever get tired of this. I prefer it to the studio version. It's more raw, dramatic and the guitars are wonderful (that solo at 3.08 always gets me), and I really enjoy the wonderful ambiguity of the lyrics. It's almost like he is talking about one of those doomed and darkly romantic liasons he has a penchant for instead of a serial killer.
This my , not just my Morrissey favorite, buy my favorite song ever. The guitar is so haunting; I love it. Every time I commit a crime I think back to this song and I remember that an artist and criminal are the same
I really love this song, lyrics, guitar riffs everything love Morrissey's voice greatest guy sings from the heart and what he is feeling sad songs make me happy because the music is uplifting canna go wrong
He opened with this one the first time I saw the great man at Portsmouth Guildhall, a memorable night .Also saw him as support for some old has been called David Bowie at Exeter.
Oh, you look so tired Mouth slack and wide Ill-housed and ill-advised Your face is as mean As your life has been Crash into my arms I want you You don't agree But you don't refuse I know you And I know a place Where no one is likely to pass Oh, you don't care if it's late And you don't care if you're lost And oh, you look so tired (But tonight you presume too much) Too much, too much And if it's the last Thing I ever do I'm gonna get you Crash into my arms I want you You don't agree But you don't refuse I know you Crash into my arms I want you You don't agree But you don't refuse I know you
Boz was the crucial component to keep Moz sounding awesome after The Smiths, Gannon created great songs but Boz created a new vibe which wasn't very Smith's at all. He managed to capture Mozzer's tendency for the ironic drama, and give him room, he's not trying to show off. A very subtle, modest and talented dude.
The studio version also adds a verse which I always hear in my head when listening to this one too. "And now I know what I think about life. I can come and go if I please. And if I want to I can stay. And if I want to I can leave. Nobody knows me. Nobody knows me. Nobody knows me."
I listened to this when my abusive ex dumped me. When my mom verbally abused me and when my former best friend said she she would never forgive me for standing up for my girlfriend. It is comforting for some reason.
Well I’m glad it was therapeutic, but ironically the song is the complete opposite of inspiring resilience. It’s about luring and murdering prostitutes.
Josh Klinghoffer did a cover version of this at the second Red Hot Chili Peppers Concert in Zurich in 2016. Sadly I attended the first concert where he did a cover of Across The Universe.
Jack The Ripper was an infamous British serial killer who murdered and butchered five women between 1888 and 1891. He was never caught, and his identity always remained an enigma. Morrissey co-authored “Jack The Ripper” (1992) with Boz Boorer. The song seems to be some kind of dialogue between the slaughterer and one of his victims. : “Oh, you look so tired Mouth slack and wide Ill-housed and ill-advised Your face is as mean as your life has been … And oh, you look so tired But tonight you’ve presumed too much Too much, too much And if it’s the last thing I ever do I’m gonna get you” The English singer-songwriter never recorded this, but he did play it in concert and included live cuts (no pun intended) on compilation LPs. 💙🏴💙
There is a less well-known studio version (I think it was done in studio) with some significant differences. I forget if/how it was formally released. Both are amazing...🙂
No one knows a thing about my life - I can come and go as I please. If I want to, I can stay. Or if I want to, I can leave. Nobody knows me, nobody knows me. HAHA! Nobody knows me! Haha! Nobody knows me...
Here in Dec 2024 . Named my dog after this song . He Was a dachshund , jack the wiener , just left the vet had to put em down . 14 years of friendship . RIP Jack love you
Where the album cut the track is wrong though. Right before this he says "I... Still... Cannot... Speak... French... I... Am... Very... Lazy." When I would put this on a mix tape I'd always cut it to include that.
Morrissey wanted the title to be 'The Thoughts of Jack the Ripper', so I think it is more accurate to say it is his internal thoughts rather than him actually singing to a victim.
I wanna personally thank Morrissey for helping me understand trough his music, all this terrible feelings of being let down, beated up and heartbroken in a relationship. Crash into my arms I want you you don't agree but you don't refuse I know you
fraw reenia MCRs version completely destroys the eloquence and paranoia of the original that makes it so great. Instead, turning it into a screaming punk song where you can’t even understand what he’s saying, the lyrics are one of the most important parts of any Morrissey song.

I found this song highly disturbing. A kind of two-way suicide pact - you don't agree, but you don't refuse. In the disturbed mind of a sociopath, which I don't pretend to understand, he's doing her a kindness in killing her. Pretty chilling.
One of my all time favorite songs. Romantic and murderous at the same time.
yeah the romantic fantasy in the mind of a killer, is easily forgiven when put to a beautiful melody and the deep passion, need and humanity brought out of it. From the dark spaces into the open
You hit the nail on the head.
Hit both nails on their heads and kissed them goodnight. Similarly to what Mark Johnson said.
a descent into darkness and depravity in such a beautiful way.
Well said!
How bout “ death of a disco dancer?”
The " HATE IES " (80 ies) ❤
The way this song is played live is phenomenal. The red lighting, the smoke on stage. My favorite song
This is still an incredible song. In 2023. Possibly my favorite Morrissey song.

Great insight my fellow Morrissey fan.❤
I agree. The guitar work here. Live, is beyond great

Incredible melody, wonderful lyrics... How a perfect song sounds like.

great version, excellent searing guitar work on this

you must please remember Alain Whyte.
@@BLLLYMUSICwe do. OP's point is Boz delivered music very different to the Smiths. Whyte has excellent co-writes but many are Marr-like.

Music with depth... love you Morrissey
this will be perfect for family fun days.
Magnificent. Great album, superb song.

my favorite song live...
This is the song I'll be listening to throughout the entire time I'm reading Stalking Jack The Ripper, thank you very much.
Pure art...
Best version by far.
Yes
Agreed. Rare occassion a live version beats the album version.
A lot of people love him a lot of people hate him. But no matter what, he’s already a music legend….. !!!! 💀☠️😎
What a beautiful song!!
Critically underrated MORRISSEY!!
Not many can sing about a serial killer luring prostitutes with such eloquence. He's a bit of a genius.
Rasta Furrian that’s sooooo True! (OMG) that’s sooooooo true!
Just like wuthering Heights by Kate Bush!! Classic !
Son of sam-Elliott smith
Morrissey wasn't a serial killer. The lyrics are similar to "The More You Ignore Me..."
Esteban Rincon Jack the Ripper was a serial killer. Are you confused easily?
I have no Words, this is just Amazing!!!
One of the best Morrissey songs...
Possibly my favorite Moz song ❤️
Same here ❤️
mine too 💖
possibly but i guess its how I'm feeling because morrissey has shit for every feeling
First Moz song I ever heard
Classic Moz. I've been listening to Southpaw Grammar and Vauxhall and I a lot lately.
Best song ever in my books
What a song!!!!!
The guitars sounding like air sirens is what make this song. Coincidentally the covers miss this, the thing that makes it a work of art.
Josh Klinghoffer did a cover version of this at the second Red Hot Chili Peppers Concert in Zurich in 2016. Sadly I attended the first concert where he did a cover of Across The Universe.
Who the fuck is Josh Klinghoffer? I ain't never heard of him.
@@frankboothsedated.7054 he played with Red Hot Chilli Peppers, he met with fellow ex-pepper Jesse Tobias after one of the RHCP concert
Outstanding
AND IF IT'S THE LAST THING I EVER DO
OH I'M GONNA GET YOU!!
Amazing song!
One of his most underrated B-sides!
Morrissey...poet prophet and if we really must label things...god....he speaks for the people of this fantastic, plastic, elastic, polyester planet
It's perfect. Happy Christmas 🥳
Pure audio ecstasy. 🌹
So good !... I wish you were there too
Stunning
