I wholeheartedly agree with all four of you I also enjoyed the 2015 _Cinderella_ and easily in my top three and top five Disney live-action remakes. Other Disney live-action remakes I also enjoyed besides _Cinderella (2015)_ are _The Jungle Book (2016), Aladdin (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017),_ and _Pete’s Dragon (2016)_
Aladdin! I think the people they found were amazing and really strengthened jasmine as a character. She was more at the forefront given more to the plot and Speechless! ❤️
Personally the only live-action Disney film that actually felt like it tried for me. It captured the magic of the original while still not being 100% like the original.
I love Cinderella and I'm so tired of the narrative going around that she is a "weak" female character. She is a victim of constant abuse in her own home but is still able to remain a kind person and keep her own spirits up until finally she finds her way out of the situation. How is that weak? A person does not need a weapon or a sassy tone to be strong.
i don't think she is weak, her strength is admirable, but i understand why people might feel frustrated because the messaging gets a little confused between kindness and letting people walk over you.
@@user-v_95but in the end, she does walk away from the abuse, and I think that's important to. And that even when walking away, she has the grace to forgive her stepmother. It's like she finally acknowledges that she won't be part of that abusive lifestyle anymore but still walks away with grace and kindness, not hate. And I think that's powerful.
One thing I liked about the live action is the fact that instead of keeping the step mother just evil and nasty, they sort of gave her some motive behind her actions. She is just a mother thinking of her own daughters first. Doesn't make her right, but I really liked that added layer of characterisation.
@ZS-dr7bi It would make more sense to say that she sees her daughters as accessories to a glamorous image of her own selfish vision for her life instead; her sense of motherhood, family, her husband and daughters, glamor, etc, all used to boost selfish narcissism/ vanity.
I wish more characterization was added to the step sisters like their animated counter parts(at least Anastasia). I'm sure having to constantly grow attached to a new father and overtime become tools for your mother's plans of survival would cause some internal turmoil.
"Just" is a bit of a strong word here. lol. "Just" a mother. And anyway, she wasn't a good mother to her daughters either. They were going to grow up being just like her. Not so great.
Kate Blanchet as the stepmother is wonderful, she plays the evil one so wonderfully and Lily James as Cinderella looks beautiful. One of the few Disney fairytale and fantasy films of recent years that has really succeeded. It's probably down to director Kenneth Brannagh.
@@rogueryder3285 Helena Bonham Carter plays every role perfectly. The way she imitated Emma Watson aka Hermione Granger in Harry Potter was brilliant and funny. I first noticed her in the 1985 movie A Room with a View with Julian Sands.
My sister chose "Lavender's Blue," from this movie, as her entrance song for her wedding in 2017, and it fit beautifully. I've had an extra love for the movie, and especially the song, ever since.
The costumes in this movie were absolutely sublime. And I like how they didn't hold back on the family drama. FYI on Prince Charming's true name in the animated movies - it's Henry 😊 Officially confirmed, and I found out thanks to a Disney Cruise Line trivia.
Cinderella forgiving her stepmother is the moment that sold this for my anti-remake Grandma. She went there to see how bad it was and ended up loving the film and recommending it to my family.
One of the first in Disney's wave of live action remakes, and definitely oneof the best. It still managed to capture a lot of the magic of the original.
The image of the prince curled up on the bed next to his father - we don't get these sweet father/son scenes in movies anymore. And I absolutely LOVE when the prince reveals himself at the end.
I absolutely felt Stella's "They're magic you guys. Stop ruining the magic." 😂 I still remember seeing this in the movie theater and a lot of us cheered when the prince revealed himself in the guard at the end. Easily the best Disney live-action, hands down. Before it all went to 💩.
Sandy Powell created the twelve-layer ball gown, a single dress that took more than 550 hours to make and was hand painted, The ball gown used over 10,000 Swarovski crystals and 500 hours to complete with 20 tailors working and was at least 20 pounds alone. It took Lily James the actress 45 minutes just to get into the dress. She also created the wedding dress.
What happened here is whoever wrote this version went and read as many versions of Cinderella as they could get thier hands on. I love Cinderella, and I can pick out moments from as many as 10 different versions, and it’s so amazing and beautiful. When you look through a bunch of versions of a classic story, you begin to see what makes them they same, where it’s heart is. The versions you don’t like are the ones that feel “off” because they lost the heart of it. The heart of Cinderella is an abused young woman who is strong enough to still care about other people, and to choose something for herself that is denied by her abusers, even though it is small. And then when someone sees her for all she is, she accepts it and walks out the door, even as her abusers are still calling her names and trying to pull her down. Cinderella is such a powerful story when done right, and this one did it right. This version strung together everything lovely about Cinderella, and it makes me so happy. I am glad you got to see it.❤
Cate Blanchett as the Stepmother was such inspired casting. It’s on par with Jennifer Coolidge in ‘A Cinderella Story’ and Joanna Lumley in ‘Ella Enchanted’.
I absolutely love it! And its one of the things that makes me giggle when im watching reaction groups bc sometimes the ladies will be all dolled up on theme and their counterparts will look like its a regular Tuesday. Its a small source of joy for me😂
Her dress transformation scene is peak "We've got Disney money :)" Honestly when I first danced with my fiancé before we started dating, that first dance sealed the deal 😂
To me this Disney live action remake is the best one. The rewritting is sooo good ! And it's true to the original animated movie. I like how you made a comment about the shoe size. Cinderella is known to have very tiny feet which is why no maiden could match her size: the shoe was too small for anybody.
So.....she was a literal child? Lol, it might be that there was no standard shoe size back when Cinderella was written, people used to get their shoes made for them. So 2 women with the same size feet may not necessarily fit into each others shoes. Plus, you know, they were made by magic!
@@jaimicottrill2831 It has nothing to do with her being a child It's mostly comming from Chinese culture. Cinderella's original tale is traced down to China in the 9th Century. For a long time in China, it was a cultural thing for women to have the most tiny feet ever. They used to put special bandages and shoes while growing up in order to deform the foot anatomy and keep it very tiny (with major bone structure damages though...). This might have had an influence for the fairy tale and the small shoe size remained 😊 These took place for thousands of years and were only stopped officially in 1912, so very recently
My theory is that the slippers, considering that they were made out of pure magic, had a spell on it which could only make the shoe fit Cinderella's feet
@@jaimicottrill2831Also because she was malnourished. This is something most people forget - Cinderella wasn’t a well-fed person, and only ate the scraps of food her step-mother gave her. This resulted in her having smaller feet.
Kenneth Branagh directed Lily James and Richard Madden a couple of months after the movie as Romeo and Juliet in London's West End - great chemistry there as well 😊
This movie is so amazingly sweet. Simple and clean. I wish more Disney remakes were like this. By the way, if you have Apple tv, I think you would love the films Wolfwalkers and Song of the Sea.
I really love this movie. Not just as a Disney live action but as a movie, period. It has heart, and it feels like a film that respects the source material enough to play around creatively with it rather than fully change and subvert things. Ella is a wonderful character and is fully treated like a worthy heroine who doesn't need to fight or reject love to be deemed "strong". She's one of the most inspirational heroines out there. Expanding on the prince's role was a big win for me too, in just a few scenes the script/acting/directing managed to show us Kit as a very kind and gentle individual who's willing to learn. I particularly loved the scenes with his dad too, we got to see healthy love and sincere communication between these two men, which was wonderful to see. I always cry in the king's last scene, it's such a touching moment. Glad you watched this one! It was lovely seeing your reactions ✨
I do love how they add the little magic to keep those who know Cinderella from recognizing her. But I also love where they openly acknowledge that those who know “Cinderella” recognize her like in the ‘Ever After’ movie.
This live action Cinderella held on really strong, I'd dare say even stronger than the later live action Disney princesses that came after it. It establishes Ella's family life before her mom passed away, then her going through the process of her father passing, then having to live through her stepmother and stepsisters' bullying while maintaining "Have Courage, and Be Kind", I also like that they introduce the prince very early on instead of popping him up when Ella's at the dance -- still my ultimate favorite live action Disney Princess movie
This still remains the greatest live action remake. I agree, the set design and costumes are breathtaking. i highly recommend watching the bts footage of the ballroom scene, the amount of work and attention to detail is astonishing. Also that scene where Ella blurts out "pumpkins and lizards" and the Kit is very confused and amused kinda remind me of the animated movie Cinderella 3 where the Prince runs through the palace frantically and the King tries to stop him and asks "what happened???" and the Prince goes "TALKING MICE SAID SHE IS NOT THE ONE" to the horror of the King😂
Wonderful commentary as always, y'all. And Stella, your words spoke so strongly to me as a writer -- I love people (and characters) who love things too. And Ella here is such a wonderful example because she is not a weak person -- she is simply a kind and forgiving one who is also quietly, tremendously strong. A gorgeous live-action adaptation and the costumes were just sublime. The actors were all lovely as well, and I especially appreciated that Kit is his own character -- the scene of him lying curled up beside his dying father was so moving (and we hardly ever see male characters given those moments of vulnerability. I also want to shout out to the great Derek Jacobi, a frequent Kenneth Branagh actor, who was especially wonderful in Branagh's superb "Henry V." Cheers!
I love this Cinderella .She is super nice and you are right in saying that that is not boring but so refreshing in seeing. Many people think that a girl needs to be spicy or naughty in order for her to be the love interest cause that is the most desired girl, and that's not true. I love that she is sweet and kind and pure hearted. We need that in society more and she influences the young girls to be more like that. That you don't have to be bad in order to be loved by another person or have good things happen to you. Yes she went through a dark time but the sun finally did rise, and she kept her integrity all the way through. I love that. This is my second favorite Cinderella. My first favorite is Rodger's and Hammerstein Brandy's Cinderella. I don't know if you saw that one but I do love that she is super sweet as well and it's a musical and I love musicals a lot. I find myself singing and listening a lot to the soundtrack. As a matter of fact I loved Brandy's Cinderella so much that my quinceanera dress and party was themed after her. The decorations were even blue like her dress. Of course back then 20 years ago the dresses were white. When I moved down south and years later went to church I learned that the new style of dresses for quinceanera's were in colors. If I would have chosen a color it would have been this Cinderella's blue cause it's my favorite color. But if you haven't watched Brandy's Cinderella I would highly recommend it. She is many's favorite Cinderella as I heard.
The one and only live action adaptation that truly captured the magic the original had. That dress transformation scene??? Are you kidding me? Walt himself would have been proud to have seen that
I second _Mirror Mirror_ and honestly I prefer that to _Snow White and the Huntsman_ Another film I definitely think James, Nobu, Hailey and Stella should react to at some point is _Ella Enchanted_
This is one of my favorite Disney Live-action remakes and although I enjoy the original animated _Cinderella,_ what made the live-action remake good and different from the rest of the Disney Live-Action remakes/reimaginings (e.g. Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Lion King, Pinocchio, Peter Pan & Wendy) released before and after _Cinderella (2015)_ is that it paid homage to the original 1950 animated classic while creating its own story and inserted deeper insights about life such as Cinderella's mother to a young Ella on _"Have Courage and be Kind"._ Plus, the direction by Kenneth Branagh, the production design, and the performances of Lily James, Richard Madden, Cate Blanchett, Stellan Skarsgård, and Helena Bonham Carter were by far my favorite highlights of the film Finally, although you will be doing _Snow White and the Huntsman_ and _Huntsman: Winter's War_ in the next 2 weeks you should react to the rest of the Disney Live-action films at some point on the channel. _The Jungle Book (2016), Aladdin (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017),_ and _Pete’s Dragon (2016)_ are extremely good Disney live-action remakes especially the former two and the latter films so please give them a chance Happy Thanksgiving to you guys and I hope you also react to some Christmas Movie reactions next month after your _Snow White and the Huntsman_ film reactions.🎄🎄
I read somewhere that back in the day there weren't shoe sizes as we think of them. Cobblers would make shoes specifically to fit their customers feet. (Rich customers anyway.) So the slipper only fitting Cinderella makes a bit more sense in the historical context.
33:00 there was actually 3 identical dresses made for different scenes. The twirling was made with soooo many petty kirt to give that iconic scene, but another was made with a hoop skirt to help with walking a specific way. All was super expensive (definitely in the thousands of 💸 $) and i think took up most of the budget. So much so that they did not repeat for beauty and the beast (which i am sad for)
watching the behind the scenes and production of this movie is just stunning and breathtaking! the details in their ballroom costumes, how they lit up every single candles on the chandeliers, and how lily james said "i think i just fell in love with richard" after filming their ballroom dance, so magical!
Great reactions!!! And shout out to Stella for not only wearing the Cinderella choker, but for knowing why the glass slippers didn’t change back after midnight!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙌🏻 This was a great movie and I’m so glad you all liked it. It was like a mini Marvel reunion… Or pre-union… with Kenneth Branagh and 4 Marvel actors. 💙💙💙
I LOVE the costumes in this movie because, as you said, it kind of plays into the period feel while using very fun colors and the dresses also favor the Dior "new look" that was so popular in the 50s when the original Disney animation came out. it's a stylized interpretation of fantasy and 50s styles
40:15 YES! Exactly! I actually never gave that much thought nor noticed it when I was a kid but I found myself asking why the shoe stayed of all the magical items and then realized because everything else was "transformed" and they were already things she had all but the shoes she "made" her new ones and got her to take off the old pair! even in the original animation that was the case as well.
Lily James and Richard Madden are so charming. I mean, what chemistry! I love replaying the part where they’re at the ball. You could cut the tension with a blunt knife.
I love this movie so much!!💙🫶🏼 Cinderella means so much to me and I’m so thankful this movie still had such magic!✨ Thank you Kenneth Branagh!! They developed some of the back stories and relationships and motivations, but it wasn’t a cynical subversion at all. I appreciated that🙂 Also, I cannot say enough about how BEAUTIFUL everything is. The decor, the costumes, the cinematography, message.🥹 Finally, I’m in love with Cinderella’s horse!! No one talks about it, but that’s one of the most gorgeous horses I’ve seen in Cinema.
Yall asked why can no one else fit the slipper its because its not about the shoe size its about the structure of her foot remember she made them specifically for the structure of ella’s foot so anyone else wouldnt be able to wear them
Hands down the only Disney remake that was able to keep the magic of the original animation. They really put a personality to the character of Prince Charming. Even the stepsisters were never jealous of Cinderella's beauty. They were jealous of the relationship between Cinderella and her father - something that I think they never experienced.
If you look behind the scenes, you will see that the ballroom was built piece by piece at the 007 Stage, it's such a massive set up, with the realistic grand stair case, even the chandelier with 2000 plus lit candles, it's awesomely very detailed, even the extras they were all dressed up very intricately according to a certain period of dressing classically. They even used 100 pieces of Swarovski valuable vintage jewelries. I thought some of them were green-screened, but the majority of them are completely real, and the film itself is wonderful. It's my favorite live-action Disney princess movie.
This movie is so good! Loved y’all’s thoughts and reactions!! Seeing Kit curled up next to his father is heartbreaking in like such a perfect way. Love this movie
Even now, I'm still watching this movie ! I mean, Cinderella is one of my favorite Disney, and I watch all versions, but THIS 2015 movie was truly the best to me ❤️🔥 and I'm glad to find people reacting to it 😊
As much as I love the revamped ballgown for Ella, it was odd to see Helena Bonham Carter portray a character who wasn't evil. For her to go from Bellatrix Lestrange to Fairy Godmother was a surprising casting choice, but she plays kooky characters as well as she plays psychotic ones.
I remember, I didn't expect it to be any good when it came out. I went to see it only because of the dress and because Sandy Powell did the costumes. I absolutely fell in love with this movie. It's the cinema magic in it's purest form.
That transition scene along with the transition scene from Nanny McPhee are absolutely top tier and my favorites. They both brought me to tears with how BEAUTIFUL they were
Have you guys seen the Jungle Book live action? It's not as joyous as the animated version but definitely does a better job portraying animals than the Lion King live action. It's severely underrated too (Kaa is the best part of the whole film)
Yeah there actually are quite a few good live action films that transform the story in such a way that they keep the imagination from the original while still standing totally on it's own. The lion king was such a disappointment from what it could have been if they recognized how the art really existed in the movie. I think it would have served them to take a more surreal approach similar to the jungle book adaptation.
When the ladies spoke of going to the ball, I recall when I was out in a public restaurant and a 20ish asian girl came in wearing an actual Snow White costume!
Awesome! I loved this movie so much! And what girl doesn't want a ball gown like that one!! There's another Cinderella adaptation that I've also always loved. It's called The Slipper and the Rose. It has a slightly different take, but it's really enjoyable and beautifully done! And it's a musical! 🤗
YES! Im so glad you loved it!! In college I was suffering with a lot of depression and trying my best to hide it and be kind to everyone who treated me awful, Then my mom and I went to see this movie in theaters and it just felt like the world was lifted off my shoulders, and im certainly not confident enough to compare myself with cinderella lol but i felt so seen, like I COULD choose a different way than being treated badly, like some magic was real and I had a right to have it. I just cried and couldnt stop smiling, and I sang the Dilly Dilly I love you song a lot after we left the theater. This movie just is so important and well done. Also, Im also really glad Stella and Hayley are apart of the channel, it just feels like theyve always been here haha thank you guys for bringing them on!! Love all four of your thoughts and reactions. ❤
I saw this movie once, the day it came out when I was 16. After rewatching it, I think of it that the story was very different to the animated one but I loved it! I loved seeing more of Ella’s backstory and being able to understand what made her stepmother be so cruel towards her. I also loved that the prince has met Ella in the forest and they reunite in the ball because in the animation , the prince just randomly sees this beautiful girl “Cinderella” and has already made the choice for the right one. I must say, this is actually one of my favorite Disney movie remakes!:)💙
This one and the Jungle Book are my favorite live actions. It maintains the essence of the story, without major changes, without trying to humanize and justify villains (one of the things that made me HATE malevolent). They did an amazing job with the design, costumes and scenery to reflect the beauty of the classic story, without being too over the top or too cartoonist and also, using a simple idea but making it very very wholesome. And that dress is forever iconic.
Malificent doesn't "humanize or justify the villain", it reframes the story to make her not the villain. Also this movie actually *does* humanize the villain. Which is not an inherently bad thing and I've never understand why people act like it is.
I really love this version of cinderella, it also reminds me of my absolute favorite version "Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel" (three wishes for Cinderella) from 1973.
For me is the Best Live action movie everrrr...she always was tru to herself and spread the real message of Cinderella. Cinderella is my favorite princess..i love the movie ❤
I just rewatched The Slipper and The Rose and you all really need to watch it! It's actually SO well done and hilarious! It's taken from the prince's point of view, in a way. I really recommend it!
This is my absolute comfort film! If I ever have a bad day I just put this on and instantly feel better! This is probably also the only live action remake that actually improved on the story while staying true to the spirit and feel of the original. The rest of them feel like soulless cash-grabs that, while entertaining, aren’t really any better than the OGs and often times actively worse. Maybe it’s because this is the first one and because ot was succesfull they decided to remake all of their classics without putting any real effort in.
My best friend and I have drastically different tastes in movies, music, books...pretty much all entertainment. But we both love this movie and watch it every time we can't agree on what to see. From the set and costume design to the expanded backgrounds for the prince and Ella, it is just so well done. And Cate Blancehtt is iconic as Lady Tremaine.
Not going to lie, the chemistry for the romance. It works and thats what I like about this lvie action. Their romance isnt forced. I audibly went "Oooo They smittennn teehehehe" and thats only when I know theres good romantic chemistry
It's a common misconception that Disney based the animation on the Brothers Grimm fairytale. It was actually based on Charles Perrault's 1697 Cinderella. That version includes the fairy godmother and the pumpkin that are not in the Grimm version, and does not include some of the darker elements; such as the stepsisters cutting off their heels & toes to make the slipper fit and them having their eyes pecked out by birds (though they did have a brief argument where Drizella threatens to scratch Anastasia's eyes out). The ball gown was made with more than a dozen fine layers of fabric, a corset and a petticoat. 9 versions of the gown were designed, each with more than 270 yards of fabric and 10,000 crystals placed one-by-one. It took 18 tailors and 500 hours to make each dress. Additionally, it took 16 people and 550 hours to complete the silk-organza, hand-painted wedding dress. When the crew were photographing Lily James in the dress she stood too close to an electric heater and it caught on fire. The top layer had to be redone because only one wedding dress was created due to time and budget constraints. Also, Lily James said that the iconic glass slippers actually didn't fit her, so instead they were added into the movie via CGI. When the Fairy Godmother introduces herself to Cinderella, at first she says "I'm your Hairy Dogfather", which is probably an intentional reference to Sirius Black from Harry Potter. I seriously suggest reacting to most of the recent live action remakes. I personally like Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast, The Jungle Book and The Little Mermaid. The Lion King is always listed as live-action when in fact it's all CGI and I don't consider Maleficent a remake, more like a retelling from a different perpective (I suggest the sequel btw). But this one is probably my favourite. The casting, the writing, the direction, the costumes and the cinematography are just perfect. For an older remake I also suggest Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1997) starring Brandy Norwood, Whitney Houston, Whoopi Goldberg and Victor Garber.
What a magical movie. Now that is how you make a live-action fairy tale film. You can probably pause the movie anywhere and it will look painting worthy.
An interesting fact to take in was the scenes where she wore the blue dress, her waist being that small wasn’t cgi, the corset she wore was actually that small. She said it herself that she couldn’t really breath properly because of it. It wasn’t the correct size for her. (Corsets aren’t suppose to hurt or stop you from breathing but are suppose to be comfortable.)
This movie is so special because of all the effort put into it behind the scenes! They actually used CGI very sparingly, limiting it to just the magic, the animals, and to enhance some of the locations. The lizard footmen and goose coachman wore prosthetics, the elaborate gold pumpkin-carriage was an actual carriage they custom-built, and the chandeliers in the ballroom were specially designed for this movie and ALL those candles were real and lit by hand the old-fashioned way!
It is by far one of the best disney animation to live action adaptations. It still holds the magic of the animated film but it also puts into a new perspective and realistic look of the old tale. Which I love.
Hayley & Stella, I am so glad you joined this channel 😍 I loved it before, but everything is even better with you guys!!!! loveeee your dinamics. great video ❤
Probably the only live-action remake Disney actually got right. On another note, Stella's expressions throughout the movie were so good and relatable 🤣 not to mention her reaction at 44:39 "They're. MAGIC you guys 😡! Stop ruining the MAGIC it's magic...😀"
I haven't even watched the reaction yet but I had to type this cause IM SO EXCITED! Cinderella was my FAV childhood movie, she was my fav princess etc. Then when this came out in 2015 I was OBSESSED with it and it was the only movie I would watch. I am now 20 and have 'have courage and be kind' tattooed on the side of my arm! its a nice reminder of my childhood and kind of a reminder to me to always have courage and be kind to people. so glad you guys loved it!
Thanks for doing this one. I lost Mum in 2020 and Dad 2 weeks ago and they met at a dance 62 years ago while my Dad was on leave from the Army. She had to go home after dancing and she lost her shoe and he did the whole Cinderella thing looking for the owner (easier thanks to the maker name inside and it being a family friend) but still, we like to think it was a fairytale.
Richard Madden and Lily James have such beautiful chemistry and can sense so much love between them, after so many years, i still hope they will be a couple in real life and love and live happily after!!! ❤
I don’t know if you’ve seen Cinderella, the 1997 version with Brandy. If not I would highly recommend it’s definitely my favorite version of Cinderella!
What is your favorite live-action Disney remake? This has to be ours!!
Cinderella and Aladdin but I also like Beauty and the beast
I personally like Cinderella very much, but I also adore how Maleficent turned out and the Jungle Book live action. I do enjoy those three very much.
The jungle book remake is better than the original animated version in my opinion
Aladdin! I think the people they found were amazing and really strengthened jasmine as a character. She was more at the forefront given more to the plot and Speechless! ❤️
Personally the only live-action Disney film that actually felt like it tried for me. It captured the magic of the original while still not being 100% like the original.
just like Maleficent
Best live action remake absolutely. There are a lot of good live action disney movies though l
Agreed, it is a really good live action remake, but personally I put Beauty and the Beast up there too
@@RealJustinCrow I liked Beauty and the Beast, but I feel like somebody else should have played Belle. I didn’t really like Emma Watson.
This and Beauty and The Beast for me 🤷🏾♀️
I love Cinderella and I'm so tired of the narrative going around that she is a "weak" female character. She is a victim of constant abuse in her own home but is still able to remain a kind person and keep her own spirits up until finally she finds her way out of the situation. How is that weak? A person does not need a weapon or a sassy tone to be strong.
Tragedy, Underdog, Struggle, Resolve, and Redemption, is what makes a story good
i don't think she is weak, her strength is admirable, but i understand why people might feel frustrated because the messaging gets a little confused between kindness and letting people walk over you.
@@user-v_95but in the end, she does walk away from the abuse, and I think that's important to. And that even when walking away, she has the grace to forgive her stepmother. @ElvishReactions yeah she will follow her parents footsteps don't her treated like that follow your dreams and will come true❤
To me, she is the strongest. Because strength of character is rare. So rare. Strength of heart? Even more so. No girlboss moment can beat either.
Yet she treated someone else's daughter like trash, so that's no excuse
"Just" is a bit of a strong word here. lol. "Just" a mother. And anyway, she wasn't a good mother to her daughters either. They were going to grow up being just like her. Not so great.
And yet everybody still jumps for joy when she meets her downfall. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Kate Blanchet as the stepmother is wonderful, she plays the evil one so wonderfully and Lily James as Cinderella looks beautiful.
One of the few Disney fairytale and fantasy films of recent years that has really succeeded. It's probably down to director Kenneth Brannagh.

That is so sweet, I often sing this song without even noticing 😂
The costumes in this movie were absolutely sublime. And I like how they didn't hold back on the family drama.

@@lesliedaubert1411 I thought so, I love that movie!
Yes. It built on what was already there, and did so very well
Yup, unfortunately nothing that came after it was even remotely close
The image of the prince curled up on the bed next to his father - we don't get these sweet father/son scenes in movies anymore.
And I absolutely LOVE when the prince reveals himself at the end.
I absolutely felt Stella's "They're magic you guys. Stop ruining the magic." 😂
I still remember seeing this in the movie theater and a lot of us cheered when the prince revealed himself in the guard at the end.
I am glad you got to see it.❤
Stella's right. The glass slippers were made from pure magic while everything else was transformed from something else.
Cate Blanchett as the Stepmother was such inspired casting. It’s on par with Jennifer Coolidge in ‘A Cinderella Story’ and Joanna Lumley in ‘Ella Enchanted’.
Don't forget Anjelica Huston in Ever After.
Hayley and Stella matching their outfits and makeup to the movies is so darn cute!! we appreciate
I absolutely love it! And its one of the things that makes me giggle when im watching reaction groups bc sometimes the ladies will be all dolled up on theme and their counterparts will look like its a regular Tuesday. Its a small source of joy for me😂
They are both so pretty 🥰
Her dress transformation scene is peak "We've got Disney money :)"
Honestly when I first danced with my fiancé before we started dating, that first dance sealed the deal 😂
My favourite line is ‘she, too, had known grief but she wore it wonderfully well’
To me this Disney live action remake is the best one.
@@jaimicottrill2831 It has nothing to do with her being a child
It's mostly comming from Chinese culture.
This might have had an influence for the fairy tale and the small shoe size remained 😊
These took place for thousands of years and were only stopped officially in 1912, so very recently
I watched Wolfwalkers for the first time a few days ago and it was beautiful!
Kit's eyes are so BLUE, I practically melted lol
The one and only live action adaptation that truly captured the magic the original had. That dress transformation scene??? Are you kidding me? Walt himself would have been proud to have seen that
Oh, please check out Mirror Mirror (from 2012, I believe)! It’s fun and completely different adaptation than than Snow White and the Huntsman 😄
I second _Mirror Mirror_ and honestly I prefer that to _Snow White and the Huntsman_
Another film I definitely think James, Nobu, Hailey and Stella should react to at some point is _Ella Enchanted_
This is one of my favorite Disney Live-action remakes and although I enjoy the original animated _Cinderella,_ what made the live-action remake good and different from the rest of the Disney Live-Action remakes/reimaginings (e.g. Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Lion King, Pinocchio, Peter Pan & Wendy) released before and after _Cinderella (2015)_ is that it paid homage to the original 1950 animated classic while creating its own story and inserted deeper insights about life such as Cinderella's mother to a young Ella on _"Have Courage and be Kind"._ Plus, the direction by Kenneth Branagh, the production design, and the performances of Lily James, Richard Madden, Cate Blanchett, Stellan Skarsgård, and Helena Bonham Carter were by far my favorite highlights of the film
Finally, although you will be doing _Snow White and the Huntsman_ and _Huntsman: Winter's War_ in the next 2 weeks you should react to the rest of the Disney Live-action films at some point on the channel. _The Jungle Book (2016), Aladdin (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017),_ and _Pete’s Dragon (2016)_ are extremely good Disney live-action remakes especially the former two and the latter films so please give them a chance
Happy Thanksgiving to you guys and I hope you also react to some Christmas Movie reactions next month after your _Snow White and the Huntsman_ film reactions.🎄🎄
This is definitely my favorite Disney live-action movie. It feels the most magical.
So much so that they did not repeat for beauty and the beast (which i am sad for)
I love how Stella is Cinderella-dressed with the velvet blue choker and the white flowery blouse.
Ikr 🥹
watching the behind the scenes and production of this movie is just stunning and breathtaking! the details in their ballroom costumes, how they lit up every single candles on the chandeliers, and how lily james said "i think i just fell in love with richard" after filming their ballroom dance, so magical!
"I'm your hairy dogfather" seems like a reference to Sirius Black and no one can change my mind 😂😂😂😂
40:15 YES!
If only a lot of the remakes that came later were as good
Lily James and Richard Madden are so charming. I mean, what chemistry! I love replaying the part where they’re at the ball. You could cut the tension with a blunt knife.
16:58
YUP! This remake added a few extra necessary details while still being the 1950 version. THATS how you do a remake
I love this movie so much!!💙🫶🏼 Cinderella means so much to me and I’m so thankful this movie still had such magic!✨ Thank you Kenneth Branagh!! They developed some of the back stories and relationships and motivations, but it wasn’t a cynical subversion at all. I appreciated that🙂
Also, I cannot say enough about how BEAUTIFUL everything is. The decor, the costumes, the cinematography, message.🥹 Finally, I’m in love with Cinderella’s horse!! No one talks about it, but that’s one of the most gorgeous horses I’ve seen in Cinema.
21:50 Prince charming name in the animated movie is " Henry"
This is my all time fav live action from disney, im so happy you reacted to this because theres only few reacting to this movie 😭😭😭
When the ladies spoke of going to the ball, I recall when I was out in a public restaurant and a 20ish asian girl came in wearing an actual Snow White costume!
"They're landing on thick, here."😂🎉❤
Awesome! I loved this movie so much! And what girl doesn't want a ball gown like that one!! There's another Cinderella adaptation that I've also always loved. It's called The Slipper and the Rose. It has a slightly different take, but it's really enjoyable and beautifully done! And it's a musical! 🤗
YES! I LOVE THIS MOVIE! THIS IS MY FAVORITE VERSION OF CINDERELLA!!! 😍💖
I love the castle as well
2015 Cinderella and 1997 Brandy Cinderella are my favorites!
The best movie adaptation of Cinderella for me was “Ever After”. Just simply beautiful.
I watched if for the first time a few months ago, that movie is beyond beautiful
For me is the Best Live action movie everrrr...she always was tru to herself and spread the real message of Cinderella. Cinderella is my favorite princess..i love the movie ❤
This one Disney live action makes my heart soar. Perfect. Romantic. Cute. Lovely story telling and costume design.
I just rewatched The Slipper and The Rose and you all really need to watch it! It's actually SO well done and hilarious! It's taken from the prince's point of view, in a way. I really recommend it!
unrelated, but Stella's makeup suits her so much I couldn't focus on the movie as much. The soft palette works nicely on her features. ^^
This live action and Ever After with Drew Barrymore are still 2 of my absolute favourite Cinderella stories 😍
Kenneth does such a good job with directing. I love his movies. This is my favorite of the Disney live action remakes.
I saw this film in the cinema with my sister. It's one of the few live-action adaptations that was simply enchanting from start to finish.
Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella - my favorite one 😍
I saw this and literally cried through the whole thing ❤️
Helena Bonham-Carter saying "I'm your hairy dogfather" is a Harry Potter reference to Sirius Black and I refuse to believe otherwise
The mice are MVPs in this
The Cinderella adaptation is still my favorite one! Love it so much!
I feel like this is the second-best rendition of Cindrella I've seen. I'd love to see what you guys react to Ever After (1998) by comparison.
This and Ever After, holds that right amount of awareness and magic
Please watch Aladdin! It is also one of the live action that is great to me! I love itt
I haven't even watched the reaction yet but I had to type this cause IM SO EXCITED! Cinderella was my FAV childhood movie, she was my fav princess etc. Then when this came out in 2015 I was OBSESSED with it and it was the only movie I would watch. I am now 20 and have 'have courage and be kind' tattooed on the side of my arm! its a nice reminder of my childhood and kind of a reminder to me to always have courage and be kind to people. so glad you guys loved it!
this is for sure one of my favorite live action disney movies
Thanks for doing this one. I lost Mum in 2020 and Dad 2 weeks ago and they met at a dance 62 years ago while my Dad was on leave from the Army. She had to go home after dancing and she lost her shoe and he did the whole Cinderella thing looking for the owner (easier thanks to the maker name inside and it being a family friend) but still, we like to think it was a fairytale.
❤❤❤❤, wooow
Richard Madden and Lily James have such beautiful chemistry and can sense so much love between them, after so many years, i still hope they will be a couple in real life and love and live happily after!!! ❤
I have such a girl crush on Helena Bonham Carter. She makes a perfect fairy godmother ❤ Her voice makes her the most enchanting narrator.
Stella is a princess? Wow.
I don’t know if you’ve seen Cinderella, the 1997 version with Brandy. If not I would highly recommend it’s definitely my favorite version of Cinderella!
I remember going to the theater to see this, and there were so many little girls in princess dresses with tiaras.
Also, it didn't occur to me until now that Cate's clothes were green, and green = envy.
