My 2017 BoltEV, like many other vehicles sold today, had no spare tire. It had a mini compressor with a bottle of Slime to try and seal the leak. I had to buy all the necessities, but it is totally worth the expense. In the years we've owned it, we've had to use the spare 3 times. Far less inconvenient than sitting on the side of the road waiting to be towed to the nearest Chevrolet dealer (that was part of the 2 years of free roadside assistance). I guess if it was after business hours you could walk to the nearest motel.......
Yes, it's always worth buying. We owned a Volvo with no spare, and my wife hit a curb and sliced the sidewall of the tire. Run flat tires go flat if the side wall get damaged. Had to leave the car in a parking lot overnight on a jack with one tire off the vehicle. Since then I always buy a spare. Well, thanks for watching
Hey! Great vid! Thanks for sharing this. Considering that the type S wheels are 21 inches and based on the spare specs seems like 19 inches, wouldn’t that be an issue?
Is there a reason(s) why they do not come with a spare? We drove to a MB dealership today to test drive a pre-owned 2020 MDX and it had no spare... please advise.
They probably figure it has run flat tires. So why does it need a spare? If you damage the side walls on run flat tires, then the tire will go flat. My wife hit 2 curbs within a week (same curb) and damaged 2 tire side walls. Had to leave her vehicle in a parking lot on 3 wheels til I could get it fixed the next morning. The vehicle wasn't left in the best area either. That's why I added the spare tire kit to the MDX
I cannot find this anywhere! Anyone know where I can purchase this? I put in the part # at Honda, Acura OEM and Amazon. Nothing. Even tried googling it
Taking delivery a rivian r1s which doesn’t come with a spare tire neither. By the way, are you not happy with your cayenne gts? This seems to be a downgrade
Crazy how many vehicles no longer come with spares. Still have the Cayenne GTS the MDX TYPE S is the wife's vehicle. I'm looking to switch the Cayenne in a year or two. Would like another Cayenne. The coupe version would be cool, but wife wants me to get a more practical family vehicle MB GLS.
Spare tire kit was a little over $200... and then tire from tire shop was around $100. Dealer wanted $600 to $650 for the kit with installation. Well thanks for watching

The main kit part number ...rim, jack and hanger kit part number is 06421-TYC-A00ZA I think the bolt part number might be 93401-08020-05 and that's for the bolts that hold the hanger but they are included in the main kit
@@onesimpledad I bought a remanufactured rim from a company in MI, if memory serves me correctly. The jack was from an S10 pickup. The gross weight of an S10 is greater than the BoltEV, so overloading is not a problem and the S10 also has a round hole jack point that is the same as the BoltEV. I bought a 1/2" breaker bar and an impact socket at Harbor Freight. My daughter worked at a tire store and ordered a tire. The only thing that was any kind of challenge was the foam cover for the lower well and the foam tray under it for the tire inflator. I had to auger out some of the foam to make the jack and socket fit into it. The breaker bar is wrapped in a T-shirt and fits between the tray and the back of the body of the car....it quiets any rattles from the breaker bar and is convenient for wiping your hands when you are done. I also bought a tire cover so I wouldn't get the carpet dirty in case the tire assembly was nasty when I removed it.
there is no way in hell I'm going to pay 75K for a car that doesn't already have a spared tire. Then you have to buy it separate and do it yourself! You a fool....
Thanks for your opinion. A lot of vehicles now don't come with spares and when my wife finds a vehicle that she likes... a few extra bucks is not going to bother me. I'm just happy a spare can be mounted to this vehicle, and installing it myself saved about half what the dealer wanted to charge for it installed. Well, thanks for watching

It's a WHEEL not a tire FFS.
Appreciate the feedback... where I'm from, they are normally referred to as a donut since they are smaller than a wheel.
