Tire damage resulting in loss of air pressure is a relatively rare occurrence but does seem to happen at quite inconvenient times. Space-saving spare tires are close to a necessity, though for most never used -- but for those journeys where a deflating experience occurs, anyone will greatly appreciate the ability to regain mobility. Granted, one needs to be able-bodied to self-change out a flat tire, at the very least having a spare tire is a welcome situation compared to possible days wasted stranded while in search of a repair or replacement. Unless your car is riding on run-flat tires, you will be appreciative of having a spare tire when the need arises.
@@EXCELSIOR_INC ...seems to me, getting to a repair facility (or your destination) is better than being immobile in the middle of who-knows-where for an extended duration.
Much appreciated video I have a model s and y both amazing cars but there is a sense of vulnerability being out on a road trip and knowing there is no spare. Tesla roadside is an evolving concept and if you are out and about on some back road little phone access etc a flat is not so uncommon and could make for a terrible experience. Specially at night and or wether extremes etc. A spare w kit definitely going in both my cars. Also I might add if trying to save money I’ve seen some videos where spares from other cars such as MBW or Hunday can fit or be made to fit teslas. Thank you for a really well made and informative video.
On my trip, Tesla Roadside Service could not access the state road I was because of the state restrictions... Would've been nice to have this spare in that situation.
@@ZZTech - What do you mean... "State Restrictions?" How can any Politician stop someone from providing help, service, or whatever? I mean, would that stop You from helping someone? 🤔🧐😳🥴
Meaning the state has restrictions on what vendors/companies can come to help and/or tow on their state roads. You have to use the state sanctioned towing companies. They aren't restricting help, just have to use their companies. Any 'third party'/vendor/manufacturer that has their own roadside service isn't allowed to service on the state roads. I ended up driving .5 miles VERY SLOW on the flat tire as I was already on the exit/off-ramp. I made it to a local road where Tesla could then come. That was easier than trying to find a permitted towing company to come help.
Did you know that 98% of cars that go the the wreckers, the spare has never been out of the trunk, ever For the small amount of times you would get a flat, and go through this hassle of risking you life changing a tire to just for 50 miles up the road Simply phone a tow truck, and stay inside the crash cage, meaning your car As flat tires are not the only thing to fail on a car, leaving you stranded on the side on the road And the tow truck would probably take about the same amount of time to get there, as it would be to change a tire Especially if you are on a road trip, and have to empty all your stuff onto the side of the road to access the spare, then replace it Then repeat the procedure at the garage
@@ZZTech LOL I realize that. And all jack manufacturers realize that too, when they are rating the jacks. Glad the jack did not fail on you, but I personally be extra cautious. I know you're not crawling underneath when swapping out wheels, but your arm or legs might get fugged up if the jack fails.
Def doesn't feel the strongest, but this is emergency situations mostly. So. I also keep a slime kit for small holes as well. I already had to use both setups.
@@ZZTech I have not used it yet. My model S has 21 inches wheel so I don’t know if it works. But it does give me a piece of mind when I’m on a long trip.
Tesla should mould the back of their cars to accept a tyre like this. it doesn't add any cost to themselves and in fact allows them to see the spares if they want.
Oh all the poser posters are saying...all i need is a tire plug and AAA...and your vid shows ..you do need a spare. Great job
So, because the jack has the square lifting point, does that mean you don't need the pucks?
How to you secure the spare in your car? It is a 19 kg projectile if in a bad accident 🧐

I agree... Thanks for watching.
@gary bean run-flat tires can not be repaired when you get to the garage, then what?

Can you please kindly list the name of the music you used in this video? Thank you in advance.

Could I use a 1/2” impact wrench on that jack to get it to lift faster?
Great video!
Dose it work on 20” induction wheel ?
I would recommend using a lifting puck , much more protection for your battery and locating is much more accurate 👍
How does the puck help?
Isn’t it a similar surface area to the jack lifting point?
don't you use the puck ?
not necessary for this kit, the contact point on the jack has a thick rubber pad. the jacks that come with Honda, Toyota and Kia are just bare metal.
Were you able to use your original lugnuts with the spare tire?
Yes same lug nuts.
beside the spare tires you need a tire compressor in the car
I keep a slime kit in there as well with a compressor
how are you storing the spare in the trunk? I wonder if it fits under the shelf
I just throw it in the back on top. It won't fit under that shelf. I only throw it in there for longer trips.
Where do you carry it in the car? I take it that it doesn't fit in the frunk or the well under the trunk?
it does not fit in the frunk. I just throw it in the trunk area and like stuff on top of it

Tow truck could take hours to come. Replacing a tire should take 20 min.
Hello, do you accept business collab?
Tesla model Y is 4400lb. But the jack is rated for only 4000lb?
You're not lifting the full weight when jacking up from the side, so should be ok
