  • William Faulkner was born September 25, 1897 in New Albany Mississippi. He is a Noble Laurate and is considered one of the greatest writers of the 20th century and Master of Southern Gothic Literature.
    A Rose for Emily was Faulkner's first short story published in 1930 in a national magazine.
    Faulkner's celebrated novels include The Sound and the Fury, As I lay Dying, and The Wild Palms.
    During his Hollywood years as a screenwriter from 1932 to 1954, Faulkner worked on 50 films.
    In 1944 Faulkner wrote a screenplay adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's novel "To Have and Have Not" and worked on the "The Big Sleep" (1946), both films starring Hollywood legend Humphrey Bogart.
    William Faulkner died July 6, 1962, in Byhalia Mississippi.
