      He also said he'd control the border and do things to bring back better paying blue collar jobs. He talked to all kinds of world leaders who have powerful militaries, and things seemed a lot more stable. Russia was its most militaristic when Biden was VP and now...
      Some politicians are pushing to leave the border wide open and using taxpayer money to support the people who illegally cross through. Many had long given up even giving lip service to pushing for more well-paid blue collar jobs. I'm talking about factories to make things essential and important if there's instability or another power makes a move, not just forcing fast food wages up $5/hr overnight.

      @paulconner4614 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      It actually affects the House, Senate and the Presidency. The electoral college gives Wyoming 1 vote for every 193k people while California gets 1 for every 740k. In the Senate Wyoming gets 1 vote for every 290k people, where California has 1 vote for every 20 million. Even in the House where it is supposed to be even because they limited the size of the house to 435 people (this is a law not in the Constitution), Wyoming get 1 representation for 581k people and California gets one for every 769k people. So there is no place in the Federal government where a large state has equal representation as the small states do. This is before we add the stupid closure rules that require 60 votes in the Senate to get a bill voted on which gives a small group of small states veto power over the whole country.

The truth is that if the choice comes down to making money or making food, it's easy to recognize which is more fundamentally important to human existence. But that doesn't negate the importance of money either. Civilization and advanced technology offer definite benefits. Fascism doesn't offer a distorted view of the separation. The separation itself is the distortion.

    I'm the antithesis of conservative, maga, republican. We moved to a rural area a few years ago, and -- without considering the effects the pandemic and Trump had on things -- moving to the country has been a real negative. Without a strong professional or social network, there are few ways to get ahead in the rural areas, and each step back -- whether by chance or some mishap -- is very difficult to recover from. Doctors are hours away, cars are prohibitively expensive, etc etc
    Add a crappy education and no social services or community resources, no cohesive culture or community, no nosey neighbors to keep a leash on people's darker impulses.... add crappy economies to that, and it's a breeding ground for resentment.
    Come in with ANY agenda, and speak directly to the people, you're going to get a response. Trump has rallies in these places. It's probably one of the few the annual social events most people will go to. I don't think it even matters what he says. People feel paid attention to, he says a few catchy sentences that resonate, and presto! He's got the votes. Get the few churches on your side, of which there are limited choices, and you've got their loyalty.

    After living in a large city for 30 years, I moved back to my hometown. I knew I was going back to a conservative bible belt town, but I didn't realize how far the people had drifted from reality. Many of these small towns (that like to call themselves cities) benefited from a post war boom in which families were boosted into the middle class. As the world economy changed, these same jobs left these towns. The ruins of large factories that once stoked the American economy surround these towns, as well as the closed coal mines that fueled them. Now the grandchildren of these people realize they have no chance of achieving what their parents and grandparents did, especially without an education.
    They look for someone to blame, and the conservative media has been delighted to blame the whole world. China, immigrants, democrats ...the whole range of easy targets. The world has changed, and no one has helped the rural people of America fit into the new economic reality. They, as christians, are looking for a savior and fascist are looking to fill this position. In their minds a "great leader" can put things back like they were. The really big problem is that this can't happen as a matter of reality and no one in conservative land wants to say this. The world economy, in the real world goes merrily along, doing what it does and while it can be nudged a little bit, it won't be bringing jobs for people with no education, beyond high school, back. I do not know how we are going to deal with this as a society, but it is going to be an ongoing issue. What is going on now in the republican party could wreck the current economy and slow efforts to move forward.

    • @donnievance1942

      Sorry, but rural states are net receivers of federal benefits, while urban states are net payers in taxes. Rural states are also over-represented in government because of the electoral system and the Constitution providing two Senators to every state regardless of population. So, the bitching about "not being represented" is BS.

    I spent the last 6 months in lower Arizona where I immediately noticed men my age will not smile.
    Where I'm from all the young professionals and middle managers are quick to return a smile to anyone and are quite tolerant.
    Here in AZ that same demographic, not only will they not return a smile to even a fellow white male, they seem upset with servers in the restaurant and gas station. The drive big pickup trucks and drive the single most self-centered I have ever seen. Charging around as though all right-of-way is anything they can charge on up to. Act like terrorists of the parking lot.

    My personal belief is that the first sprinkles of white rage began around twenty years or more ago. I remember hearing many complaints about minorities receiving access to grants, loans, jobs, etc... while caucasians found that they themselves were struggling. The white struggle belief is not necessarily limited to rural America alone. My rural transplanted, christian, caucasian family reside within a large urban area & all of them are trumpers. I've retired discussing politics with them for it never ends well. I'll watch hours of conservative spews with them yet the moment the channel is switched to "MSM" they leave the room. Its disgusting behavior.
