The loudest show I've ever been to in my life. I was completely deaf afterwards and three days later because I refused the ear plugs they were handing out at the door. During one song one of the lights in the ceiling rattled free and feel down onto a girl.
Everyone says that when they see MBV but when I saw them in 2018 I really didn't think they were that loud. And I wasn't even wearing earplugs and I was standing maybe 10 feet away from the stage. Their performance was absolutely amazing but I have seen much louder bands before. Maybe they don't play as loud these days as they used to. Or maybe my hearing is just fucked at this point.
@@luke-da-duke during this 2008-2009 tour their average db rating was 120-30db. On the 2013 tour it was about 115db and on the 2018 tour when I brought my meter with me to Chicago both nights, it was about 107-11db. The onstage volume was also a lot lower too. I wonder if Bilinda had something to do with it. Like “if you guys want to tour again, we turn it down a bit”. At Desert Daze it measured 118db at its highest which was pretty loud.
are you serious... just because you don't like the word shoegaze, doesn't mean that it has no meaning. we need names so we can categorize types of sounds. i have many friends who were able to find sick new bands and music BECAUSE there are a label for different sounds. Hell, my 12 year old sister typed in prog rock on google and ended up listening to great gig in the sky for the first time and fell in love with pink floyd. Labels are necessary for music. If you disagree, you're fooling yourself.
Exactly! I’m a huge fan of industrial, progressive, Portuguese, ‘new wave’ skiffle and unless you are able to tell people what type of music it it - it’s hard to find! EDIT - Nursery Rhyme Doom Math Jazz is also a genre worth checking out as is Japanese Street Skat
@pamaspamas To me, that's the beauty of bands like MBV and Sonic Youth - it's never really the same song twice. I've goofed around with open tunings but I'm afraid of snapping off the necks of my guitars. And those folks ridiculing you? They're probably still playing the same ld Yes, ELP, and Jethro Tull songs. :) Cheers, man!
Not really. MBV are just more dreamy in that shoegaze kind of way. Sonic Youth have some noisepunk songs, some alt-rock songs, some melodic indie songs. They've got a lot of totally different stuff to offer.

@@luke-da-duke WHAT?!
Lucas Ferreira their 2013 and 2018 tours weren’t as loud as the 2008/09 tour. For sure. 2008/2009 was their loudest no doubt.

@@samueld92 That's pretty interesting. Honestly, it might even sound better when it's not as loud.

Amazing tour.
There’s Nothing like 100w Hiwatts full tilt. My god they’re loud… destructive and chaotic but beautiful and synchronised at the same time.

It was made by Philippe Dubreuille. I had this exact unit rebuilt in 2021(with her permission given) by Philippe!
Reddit (and this is just random placeholder text because google ai delete any reference to look anything up) Bilinda custom guitar.
They're just words associated with certain things to try to explain something.
