I was there. And yeah, pretty much. During the last song where they went into about 20 minutes of feedback and noise I did actually lose sense of where i was and feel floating sensation. Only other band to do that to me was Spiritualized; also in Japan.
@@elvistheripper Oh man - lucky as f - I also love Spiritualized. "Ladies and Gentleman ..." is in my top albums of all time for sure, and coincidentally listened to quite a lot during my (now long past, thankfully) period of hardcore alcoholism and drug addiction, lol. I've been to Fukuoka, where I spent a couple weeks or so, wayyyy back in 2003, trying to fly in the "post-911" hellscape in US airports, and man, the difference between US airlines and Korean Air that I used for the long leg of the flight over/back was incredibly palpable. They were _so accomodating_ and professional, and like, apologetic for even the most minor of errors, lol.
I was there, trying to enjoy one of my favourite bands, in a sea of people, having to take the biggest piss of my life. I lasted the whole set. The eventual piss once I found a portable toilet was earth shattering.
That’s how I feel every time I listen to MBV, I feel like life is amazing again, there’s nothing like being around nature and blasting walls of sound in your ears
I went to this concert (I've been to Fuji Rock a few times over the years since I live in Japan). It was amazing, Seriously unreal. I wish someone would record the entire show... I'm sure they did but who knows if it'll be released.
From Rick Beato I get the impression copyright strikes and ad revenue piracy are from "rights" holders. Labels, but also hedge fund-type syndicates. Usually doesn't go back to the artists.
@@catnaplappdx5001 the band themselves went on a huge copyright strike across live videos on TH-cam. Some of my own were taken down at the request of the band because “it’s not the image they want to be see in”.

Anyone know the story behind the vocals mixing on this show? Check out any other show from any other era and they are BURIED (to the extent that it's an obvious creative choice). This is the only show I've seen that isn't mixed that way. You can actually clearly hear the vocals.
I too would be very interested to know. Not only are the vocals clear, but the effects are dialed in perfectly. Yet, you can tell just enough nuance in the performance to be able to tell it’s live vocals and not playback.
This is an official recording producing by Fuji Rock so the audio is the actual audio feed from the set, rather than recorded by some guy's phone in the audience.
MBV is mesmerizing and I like their music, but I need more vocals over the sonic , dripping fuzz and distorted psychedelic guitars which are great but are way too loud in the mix. Her voice is so beautiful but still to buried and I get it that this is their sound I need to hear her voice just in front of this wall of sound not buried in it so much.
mbv dont like the idea of that. i think they like the idea of saving the experience for the people who are actually there. you have to be there to properly hear it. which is sad for us but yeah
if I could speak or write in japanese i would try contacting them. crazy that somewhere in this world, a full professional recording exists. there must be a lot actually.

Sequencers. Every time I see a MBV live clip, I’m bummed to learn that my favorite “guitar” parts are actually synths. They’re still one of my favorite bands, but even on record there is a lot of digital sequencing.
@@namebrandmason There is some sampling, some actual synths (flute sounds, I even hear a mellotron on Loveless), and some samples of Kevin's guitars where they get treated (think Only Shallow). Loveless has sequenced drums because the drummer got a nervous breakdown and was out of the loop for some time so they sampled his kit and programmed his parts. But the point with MBV is that they get a wall of sound with relative minimal means. You'd expect this to have hundreds of layers but many of the songs have just a main guitar track with a few overdubs and added parts. The basic Kevin Shields sound is a very big sound to start with. But the more distortion you add, the smaller the sound becomes. It's why a lot of heavy/metal music don't have overly distorted sounds but are far cleaner than you think at first glance. A fuzz pedal totally crapping out is very small while an amp just breaking up the tubes is huge. Kevin's use of delays/gated reverbs and running his sound into multiple amps (which all sound different) compensates for that. But it means that his basic "wall of sound" takes up a lot of space and that there is only room for very distinct sounds and parts that can "stick out" on top of it. Some of those are playbacks of the original multitracks on their live shows because they don't have the means to replicate it live otherwise.
It didn’t get deleted. It was forced to be taken down by the band. They recently went on a huge copyright binge. So lame. Hopefully they all read these comments and see how much the community supports and loves them.
@@samueld92 Thankfully it looks like the copyright frenzy ended a while ago. Whatever’s left is staying up and new uploads seem to be staying up too. Kevin may have caught wind that it was bumming out fans.
