Never rely on the handout from the government since arriving here in the U.S. as an immigrant. Got a family to feed working on various dead-end job but never giving up to better myself. Thank God He help me along every step of the way. Some Americans I believe deserved help or handout from the government. But sad to say some were trapped in this vicious cycle of getting pregnant and use the child to continue receiving aid from the government. The worst case is that some Americans exchange their welfare money for drugs habit.
Uhh, $500 a month for 5 people is $100 each for the month. Each week is only $25, each day is $3.50 so just over a $1 a meal per person. Geez, they have it soooooo good. Can you do basic math, lady? Have a heart. Americans have no money it all went to the top so it could tickle down on you and never did.
If people ate what they should be eating like rice,beans and greens $500 would be plenty..but most F.S. recipients spent it on processed food(hot pockets,pizza and ice cream).I worked at Wal-Mart and see what most people buy is total pre-packaged salt,sugar or fat with nothing healthy in the cart.

In this thread people are arguing over who gets to eat. That is pathetic! We all deserve to eat three healthy meals a day every single day. Recommended is about 1,200 calories for small sedentary women and 1,500 to maintain a woman who is active. A 1,200 celery diet is a weight loss diet for most people. Men need more to maintain, about 2,000 calories depending on how active. Athletes need more. Recommended healthy plates contain 1/4 starchy veggies or other starches, 1/4 protein and half fruits and veggies. That is hard to do on food stamps. Recommended are low fats and no high cholesterol fats. Also, some people must have a low sodium diet. My food needs as a diabetic contain no sugars of any kind and I must home prepare everything to keep salt and starch in the giudelines. If I don't eat right I get sick and my health deteriorates. Whatever is damaged from bad diet does not come back. If my vision goes it is gone. If I develop heart disease or kidney disease from diabetes these do not come back. If I get sores they don't heal for a long time. To stay healthy I must eat healthy. The food stamp program is to be cut as is social security and Medicarecand Medicaid under Trump's new budget. The cuts are not small cuts.
Guy in front of me at sunoco today bought chips a butterfinger and a coke with his ebt then pulls out two dollars for a shot of fireball whiskey. Then got in his escalade and drove off. literally didn't know what to say when the teller asked me how i was, I told him about how when i was broke and hungry in college i applied for food stamps and they offered me 10 dollars a month. I said keep it. also for the record i drive a 15 year old beat up focus and work my life away to pay for my roof with 0 aid. how is it this guy gets to drive an escalade and eat junk food that the rest of us paid for?

Honestly I never had a problem with my food stamps lasting. What I did was take my allotment divide that by 4. Used that for my budget. If I had any money left over it was put towards next week. I shopped sales. I used coupons. So yeah. You gotta be smart with your resources.
I agree wouldn't it be smarter to divide that up into several weeks get the store specials use coupons buy markdowns I've been buying markdown meat and other markdown items at my grocery store for many years
A lot of people doing well look down on those needing food benefits. Those that have and don’t know What hardships are have to fall into it to come to know. Under the new Trump budget she would have her food stamp benefit cut and so will I. The pantry cannot provide me with the veggies I need for my diabetic diet. I can't fill up on spaghetti, beans and bread. Ramen is salty and high carb. I need 50% of my food to be low starch veggies which, of course are fragile. I come home from the food bank with mushy tomatoes in season. None now. Lettuce is wilted, berries are half rotted. I worry about the freshness because I got food poisoning from one item from the food bank that I thought was o.k. but it was bad. Old cucumbers become bitter as do zucchini which are out of season now. Cabbage is often wilted and spotted most of the way through and broccoli lately is floppy it is so wilted. I eat it anyhow but I must tell you that there is an element of fear when I eat food that really is not fit to eat. That frozen package that was bad really frightened me. Potatoes don't help me, and most canned food is salty as is canned tuna and soup. It is a struggle between the beginning of the last week of the month and the third of the next month when I get my social security.

They let homeless people use it at certain restaurants for certain things bc they dont have access to food storage. Educate yourself before you speak . Ive taught nutrition classes, they buy what last the longest.

I'm 67 I draw Social Security I get $21 a month food stamps even during the pandemic I'm not complaining I do okay but $21 doesn't stretch very far
