I can't believe anyone else remembers this cartoon. I loved it when it came out even though I was in high school. I have used darkwater in my campaigns before. Great find Grim!
Pirates of Dark Water and Swat Kats were my jam as a kid. I miss them so much. Neither series was finished properly, though at least Swat Kats put together a decent final episode because they knew they were going to be short.
As a child I couldn't understand WHY this was canceled :/ I was a huge fan of this cartoon and I still am... it was so different from anything that was available back then... it was mature and yet still available for kids... a cartoon so unique that was simply underrated. I don't know if it was not advertise enough back in a day or what... but I just can't believe that kids didn't like it. So many cartoon series from the 80' were mature in it's visuals and even story. So why this one was rejected ? No idea... but for me, this will be one of the best series, including both animated and live action, ever created
@@PostmortemVideo Yes, I've heard about that :) which is sad... but I still think it needed more advertisment. I don't know a single person that ever heard about this show. Not a single one. That says a lot. Even my wife knows He-Man or Biker Mice from Mars. But nobody knows Pirates of Dark Water :/
I enjoyed this show as a kid. I remember some years later, after Cartoon Network had been playing the reruns, they had a prank segment wherein in response to a letter they claimed to have found the finale but it had been taped over with footage of a cat drinking milk.
I remember Pirates of Dark Water. It was a mix of Sinbad. Jason and the Argonauts and the old pirate flicks. The Pirates of the Caribbean movies (Particularly Dead Man's Chest) reminded me of Pirates of Dark Water.
God I loved this cartoon and the ship designs. I'm running an awesome Ghost of Saltmarsh D&D5e campaign right now. It has blackpowder firearms, ship cjases/battles and swashbuckling aplenty. If anybody wants my house rules or references let me know!
There is a game called No Rest for the Wicked just released on early access. Reminded me alot about this cartoon, so i searched it on youtube for a trip down memory lane and stumbled upon on your video.
This show has been in my head since 90s. I still wish they came out with another series. Became a adult and purchase the series i also own the snes games as well. I just always loved the concept.
Watched this all the time as a kid. Had a video game of it even. Playstation maybe? Or Sega Megadrive? It always annoyed me we never got a conclusion to the story.

Do The Inhumanoids!
Many still remember it! I also remember the mini series and watched the show religiously!
I was in elementary school and loved it every Saturday
I was about 5 or 6. This is when I began to treasure Tim Currie!
The first joy boy other then one piece
One of the absolute BEST cartoons! I hope they decide to finish the story via streaming

Same here. Exactly the same two series. I did like Galtar and Centurions as well, but not to the same degree.
@@GpWUrbs agreed
Swat Katz is the reason I like jets to this day. That cartoon was the truth! I like Mighty Max as well

It seems to have been mainly a money issue.

It was making money but not ENOUGH money.

Loved this cartoon. Nostalgia!
Me, 2 personally, *Cell Phone!*
Great cartoon, ended way too soon, really deserves a blu ray release.
Fascinating subject. Thanks Grim.
Can't believe I missed this, big fan. Here's hoping it comes back some day.
It always gave me a "Talislanta" vibe, which is why I enjoyed it so much.

My favorite show as a kid, absolutely loved this show.
Can't believe this came out in 1991
I'm currently working on a campaign setting inspired loosely by this show, loved it as a kid and it still holds up pretty well even today.

The dark water makes me think of Barbarella and the Mathmos.
And with the death of Duran Duran, the galaxy lost it's last great dictator. What a shame. ;P
Loved this cartoon as a kid. The first season was so well animated for a US cartoon.

Still waiting for a Pirates of Dark Water movie. Come on, Hollywood!
Believe it or not, Kate Mulgrew was the captain of a ghost ship before Star Trek: Voyager. 😮
I loved this cartoon and now I tell people one piece is a rip off of this lol
I'd never heard of this series before this th-cam.com/video/Q7k6GgISh-8/w-d-xo.html
