As someone who has used this camera as a great stepping stone into filmaking, i love that youve made a video to raise awareness to it! it realy is such a unuiquely nice mighty mini camera! top tip to anyone wanting to get this tho: Id strongly recommend getting a DJI Crystalsky monitor and DJI osmo pro USB adapter so that the camera feeds video strait to a mobile device or DJI crystalsky monitor and you wont ever need to reconnect to the wifi each time, it just boots right back up when ur ready to go which has saved me so much time honnestly. i actualy believe that its just as essential as the focus handwheel as it makes the camera alot more reliable.
Thank you. I'm glad you also enjoyed using this camera, it certainly is unique. And yes, the CrystalSky monitor is something that can be very handy, I just never used it on any of our productions.
Also, there was solution for splitter usb adapter where cable can be connected to the phone itself, eliminating need for wifi...great video, thanks for sharing...there is still nothing like this in RAW format...I love it, ability to pan camera around simply by touching phone screen while it is rigged on the outside of the car is priceless .
Amazing Camera, I have the osmo pocket 3 so i'm used to the gimbal moves and steady videos. I bought the Osmo pro combo 2 months ago, and I already have worked in 3 different jobs using it for video marketing. I used it for restaurant video promo, A crochet workshop, and also recording horses in nature. The color grading as you say is kind of difficult, but the natural bokeh is something that you can't get with phones. Yes the iphone has the cinematic mode, but the bokeh is a mix with digital process, It will never match a Natural Bokeh (even thought I love the iphone functions). I started learning about micro 4/3, how the aperture and light works, It has teached me a lot. I also ordered a lens that was not meant for this camera with an aperture of f1.2 and manual focus (I bought it for stationary recording), and with some coins that I attached to the back and side of the X5, I made it work!. My clients are super happy.
That's awesome! It is a great camera, but I feel it is now a bit dated considering technology, ease of use, and the range of options. But yes, it is still a good camera to keep in your bag, mostly for b-roll, I'd say.
thank for this video, I still own mine and I use with it DJI Crystal Sky Moniter 5inch. for some reason now the monster not loading the software so I now have to use my phone
I'm glad you still own yours, still an awesome piece of kit, even in 2024. Could it be there is no further software/hardware support for the Crystal Sky monitor?
I picked up a used one yesterday. I was hoping I could to utilize the larger sensor and gimbal to work in some more shadow in movement. I trying out today in the field. After setting it up and updating it and working through everything I don't expect it to do well. Your lagging video / audio is a limitation that will not go away. Camera will only write to card at 60 mbs. I do not believe this camera was really ever meant to anymore than a stop gap. The fan being loud seems crazy, but it is loud. Part of the reason I looked at this camera was I was using drones to capture this footage, but some dogs really do not like the sound of drone. So this seemed like a good idea. It's a drone camera on a handle. No single dog that dislikes drone can be around this camera and the noise. This may be an issue with the balance and so I am trying to look into making sure the balance spacer is right. The Osmo X5 I bought used has never been used. It still had the original firmware from shipment. It also has a crack in the mount of the handle. I would bet everyone of these has this. The plate that has the movement control, record buttons is very thin aluminum. On this side there is a little OSMO logo. The crack is this there and in the same spot on the other side. It is not really a big deal because the bracket that screws into the handle and adaptor plate provides enough structure to relieve the stress on the part. I bet if you do not keep that bracket in place and tight that handle will snap off. In time though the small amount of wiggle will destroy that delicate junction inside. The OSMO X5 Pro was not he camera used for that shoot. It was the OSMO X5R. That is a very big difference. The R is for RAW. The X5 Pro cannot be converted to that easily. For one you have to use a DJI SSD as far as I can tell and DJI slapped a sticker on $100 dollar enclosed 1tb drive and charged a $1000 for it. That is the thing. If this camera could output RAW 4k (16.1mp) with a larger sensor than most action cameras and the ability to change lenses it would be worth all the other crap. So much so that DJI does make one that will do that and it's about $8k kitted out. Like I said I am trying it today and will see how it actually functions in the real world. Lastly all things aside every other part of this camera is incredibly well built. The brackets are incredible quality. I guess from the drone applications. It does take RAW still photos. Battery life while setting it up was about 25 minutes per pack and although these batteries are old they do not have any real use. I color and grade GOPRO footage and during set up this thing seems to be worse
Thank you for your detailed breakdown; it is appreciated. I agree, the camera has many limitations and should never really be used as a main camera. I have tried using it as an "interview" camera in the past, shooting in 4K 24fps, but it just doesn't work due to the out-of-sync audio, so b-roll camera it is. Of course you don't get that issue in 1080p. DJI have come a long way since the X5 and the X5 RAW were released, and the latest gear, such as the Ronin 4D, has huge improvements, but of course is not without its drawbacks. Do share your findings from your tests; I'd be interested to hear how the camera performed for you.
@@spectrallens It was clunky. It was irritating. I was in direct sunlight with an iPhone for a screen using wifi. So I was not real clear as just what I shot. I loaded up this morning and it looks damn good. I have only used GoPro's and iPhones so far for work so maybe just the larger sensor itself is the benefit. One clip was soup and it's 4k at 8 bits so that kind of pales in comparison to other options. Still what it does with those 8 bits is really good.
@@spectrallens It felt clunky. I was using an iPhone for a screen and so that is only WiFi. The autofocus and auto exposure were iffy. I just need infinite for my stuff. I locked it 400 iso and locked it to 30fps/120 and let it control aperture. I prefer 60 to 120 for my stuff, but 30 at 4k is all it will do. Shooting in log it did well. The sunlight to shadow dynamic changes it handled well. The color is good and I suspect that is why this thing has some fans. It’s good. Probably the larger sensor. This camera and rig is 8 years old, but it was never used. It does not fill the role I need, but I think I am going to keep it.
I still have it, X5R Raw version, this is perfect situation where this is great option, suction rigged car situation and walk in / run in shots for Osmo and drones...also I have that Z axis spring thing ....
really enjoyed watching your video but as a video editor found some error in the video i think we have to connect to solve the issue and i will do it for free
It's been *5 years* since I last uploaded a talking head style video, so I hope you enjoy it and it brings some value to you.
Camera is.still very relevant

Thank you. Yes, that's a great option; I forgot to mention that in the video. I think the Crystal Sky monitor setup was also a great alternative.

amazing, how is it for car mounting and control from inside a car ?
From what I could see, the mount is solid, and it can be controlled from the DJI app. However, we didn't shoot that video with Bugatti.

The RAW is a great option indeed. I would've loved to use it as a car rigged setup, but I didn't get the chance to. I'm glad you're still using yours.
It would interesting to see a comparison with the Dji pocket 3
I'll see if we can make that happen.
really enjoyed watching your video but as a video editor found some error in the video i think we have to connect to solve the issue and i will do it for free
Thanks, but we don't currently need an additional editor.
