Congratulations police officers. You just turned a person who volunteered to help your investigation into a person that will never help you in the future.
I was interested in being an officer some years ago. But, after a bad experience with them, even with my parents escorting me to drive my car home with dead headlights. Those cops were ready to throw me in jail. Lucky my parents, sat in the car and watched as witnesses should something bad happen to me by the actions of those officers. I decided to work in health and take legal courses in college as well. To know my rights, against officers who knowingly abuse the system in their favor.
And not to mention how she's going to give the ENTIRE police department a bad name because of the lawsuit that will follow. They could have been there to help her during her lowest moment, to help give trust and faith again in the police. Instead they only added gasoline to the fire that will fuel her during her lawsuit to get justice.
What's more is that the person who was the most confrontational and hostile was a black female officer no less! It just goes to show that race doesn't matter, American policing needs to be overhauled federally, not just state to state; it needs complete reformation.
I also wouldn't be surprised if they purposely make her wait for an interview as some sort of psychological tactic. Clearly they see her as a suspect, confiscating her phone.
Even if they are not required to give a reason, it seems obvious that they would get more cooperation by simply explaining their requests which in turn might make sound the request as reasonable. Again, no de escalation....
It was the way she just used the assumption that she could remove that poor ladies phone. These lawsuits should be deducted from the Police pension fund; doing that, would stop this disgraceful behaviour is about 1 week.
She won't make that mistake again. Then the police will be hurt that no one in the community trusts them. No one will talk to them. The cops just don't get it.
Dude the way these officers surrounded her and had her backed up against the wall was more like a gang of predators playing with their food. Absolutely horrible “public servants”!!
3 couples tho lol shyt made no sense but at least we know how they all was able to strong arm the situation bc there's strength in numbers so they all clearly told the same exact LIE smfh the things people do for money and free housing is disgusting ASF but NOT GUILTY 💯
Him taking property unlawfully, requesting an interview, her stating no i want a lawyer, saying then take her to jail, and then asking if she’d like to interview again is the definition of coercion.
Once she asked for a lawyer, anything that occurs after that, (such as jailing her until she agrees to talk, excessive heat or a/c, witholding food or legal council) is coercion, whether physical force is applied or not.

She will never have any trust in cops again and those cops are still like ... oh why u don't trust cops ... CAUSE OF STUFF LIKE THIS HAPPENING U PIG
@@chrisd2p2 They need either a warrant or exigent circumstances. They can't just bust down your door or search your person because they THINK it relates to evidence in the case. They need proof. These police need to face trial.
@@chrisd2p2 They cannot without a warrant. Don't get that twisted. Unless they have a warrant or actual probable cause in extreme circumstances (like let's say they found plans on your computer to talk to someone about doing something super illegal, and they believe you talked on the phone about the plan), however neither of these applied, so no they couldn't seize her property.
This one really got me. 18 year old comes down to the station after a traumatic event, arrested and now will never ever trust police again. Great job officers. You just pushed another person and their family to hate you for life.
They're most likely racist and don't care. remember, *The "thin blue line" has been associated with white nationalists in the US, particularly after the Unite the Right rally in 2017.* and was made to combat the *Back Lives Matter* movement and make people thing you can only pick one side. Racial disparities have long pervaded every step of the criminal justice process, from police stops, searches, arrests, shootings and other uses of force to charging decisions, wrongful convictions, and sentences. As a result, many have concluded that a structural or institutional bias against people of color, shaped by long-standing racial, economic, and social inequities, infects the criminal justice system. These systemic inequities can also instill implicit biases - unconscious prejudices that favor in-groups and stigmatize out-groups - among individual law enforcement officials, influencing their day-to-day actions while interacting with the public. After everything has been said and done, there are people who *truly* believe the police are nothing like Nazis, at all. They're as diloustional as a men licking a wooden spoon and convinced himself it's a lollipop.
@@bradleymarchand560 I get what you're saying but that isn't how trauma works. If someone throws up after McDonald's lunch they will likely blame and avoid all McDonald's everywhere, not just that location, even if it was their home-cooked breakfast that actually made them sick.
They become police because they have sadistic power fantasies. I've experienced this and seen this so many times, you'll never be able to convince me this isn't why a great many of them become officers. I grew up in the 2000s, right before body cams became popular in the early 2010s and the sadism I experienced from police was chilling. They seemed giddy at the opportunity to physically abuse a teenage girl, like they had thought about doing this since highschool. I hate that bodycams can't show us the expressions of police. I feel it would be very telling. The betrayal in this young woman's voice and expression is heart breaking. She really thought that another black woman would be on her side. I wish it were that easy....
Two lessons here: 1) never voluntarily go the the police department for an investigation/interview. 2) Always demand to see a warrant whenever an officer demands your property.
Always remember they are NOT your friends, they do not want to help you and are always looking for ways to make their "job" easier. nearly 80% of law enforcement only do it for a big paycheck and benefits of being in a crew of gun wielding thugs. the majority of the 20% that joined to help their communities slowly get brainwashed into thinking their a ruling class in a police state and the rest are so damn clueless the the problems they are blind to it. there are no "Good ones" just ones who act like the part and hide their true nature like psychotic serial killers.
The sad part is that if the cops ARE found to be in the wrong, they just shrug their shoulders and move on with their day. She, on the other hand, will live with this trauma for the rest of her life.
Yeah the cops don't care if they fuck up because the taxpayers cough up any money that they lose in lawsuits. If you ask me, lawsuit settlements should be paid out of police pension funds.
and people wonder why there's hate and resentment for police, the amount of Americans like this women in the video are only growing by the hundreds each year. When's it gonna end.....
@@willdwyer6782 That's not only (barely) a benefit to taxpayers, but it can solve this problem since LEOs will be kept in check. Nobody wants their pension gone, so maybe they'll try extra hard to have integrity......

The powerful elites love things like BLM because the outrage that should be directed against them gets redirected back to other sections of the lower class; regular white people.
But once you don't assist them you're deemed "uncooperative" and then suspect right? It's BS. If the police want to question you, EVER, make them come over to your house. If they don't then they're uncooperative.
Basically this all boils down to "Give me your property. You have to because I'm a cop and I said I'm taking it." Then arresting her for not *Obeying* despite total lack of justification. This attitude is absolutely disgusting.
Plus assaulted. Never put her under arrest, they simply gang up on her and put their arms on her to forcefully take her phone away. Then arrest for resisting arrest… when they never put her under arrest
I see both sides, a lot of this generation are addicted to their phones. I am serious when I say they are caught with it during a secured test. The phone is NOT taken from them, but instead put in a baggie in the same room with them. it is read multiple times they can't have it on their person. This could have been solved if the cop explained it better the first time instead of going on the power trip.

Cops: “Why don’t people respect us and trust us implicitly?” Bad Cops: **routinely violate the rights of civilians and abuse their powers** Cops: “I guess we’ll never know 😔 “
I like the implication that cops aren't assisting bad cops in bad cop behavior. Look at all the 'good' cops just standing there, doing nothing to help this lady. This is what is meant when people say all cops are bad. They're not all actively hostile, but they are all complicit and actively assist bad cops.
I can atest to that, a family member was so stressed it caused major health problems and she passed away way too early in life, being threatened, intimidated, accused and charged for no crime, never so much as a parking ticket in her young 59 years of life, I miss her every day😢

You cant leave a "suspect" alone in the lobby for almost an hour then suddenly need to seize a phone without a warrant claiming exigent circumstances, that's insane!! 😮
Ya, they can’t possibly claim they’re concerned with her deleting evidence when they left her alone with the phone for an hour. Just insane. Probably why the warrant was denied. Simple logic.

I hope Ms. Brown sues the badges off those cops, & the town for having these clowns representing them! And if she wants to- has enough $$ to go to Law School or do Auditing, & turns this nightmare into good. And helps to end the tyrannical behavior of some cops. Why are they worse in a pack?
I have to disagree with Audit the Audit conclusion. If you don't resist the seizing of your property when no warrant is produced, you lose all legal protection. You can't hope to win a lawsuit because you will appear to willingly surrender the property. Also you then wave the right to the need of a warrant so whatever is found on the phone then could become admissible in a court of law. Their force seizure of the phone is what got her out of jail, got the phone returned, and is what is allowing her lawsuit to move forward. The only thing I could criticize this young lady about is she didn't ask for the warrant. Saying those words should have stopped the seizure in its tracks. Now, they could make a counter claim that they were now detaining her, but they still couldn't legally seize the property unless it was evidence in a crime. And good luck getting a judge to agree that a phone is somehow evidence in a arson case. They would be right back where they were with an illegal seizure. This would assume that they think the lady would film her activity or text about it. Which they could get the text information from the cell phone provider by providing a warrant to them for it. So the only physical evidence would be on the phone is video, picture, or text messages. She got released the next day because somebody more higher up got involved, learned about the interaction and the illegal seizure and got her released immediately. Hell, it may have even been the forensic investigator assigned to check the phone who would have inquired about the chain of custody on the phone and then realized it was improperly seized by the officers the previous day. And yes, the forensic investigator would enquire about the chain of custody because they would be the ones giving testimony in a court of law. But I'd also argue that the police department has now compromised their investigation. Even is this young lady poured gasoline on the floor, stuck the match, tossed it into the gas, and burned her own residence down, but because they mishandled this investigation so early a lawyer could argue that the police department was retaliating against their client who was suing them. And any and all evidence might get tossed. This is why you hear that charges have all been dropped when police are facing justifiable lawsuits in a case. Because the investigation is tainted by the police department with jurisdiction and unless some higher level department of public safety can create a case (feds) the person all but gets a free pass.
@@justmeandthethree Yes she was naive. But you know what? It won't happen again. Hell she will be the one lady on the street making an #$$ of herself to them because they are struggling in an arrest of somebody else who is likely guilty of the crime that he or she is being arrested for.
Correct. Police need to create and investigation. When you give them information, you become part of the investigation, and if other sources are not providing information, you will become the focus of the investigation.
At no point, will I ever answer any questions. Not on the street. Not in their police department. Not in their court house. You NEVER have to answer questions.
@@Tijuanabill this is not true. In some instances you have to talk to the police if they are investigating a crime and they have reason to believe that you have information about the crime. It’s called obstruction and they use it all the time. For example a murder investigation and you were a witness.
Yup. Also make sure to record EVERY encounter you have with the cops. No matter how lame the circumstances are. Remember they are not your friends. They are not here to help you in any way. It's your job to know your rights and protect yourself with video evidence. Give 1 word answers as much as possible and NEVER allow them to do searches on your property. If they pull out a weapon and command you to surrender, don't resist no matter how innocent you are. If they have the chance to discharge their weapons, they will do it. They thirst for blood. Your life isn't worth proving a point. You can prove your innocence in court and also file for lawsuits. But at that moment, just tone down your ego and sumbit. If possible, post your bad encounters online and make sure to expose their faces clearly, including their badge no. names, etc.
Why do officers believe someone is going to "relax" as they are being assaulted? I will never understand this. It is your natural instinct to resist to some extent. If an officer puts you into some kind of hold that causes pain you are naturally going to try to make that pain stop? Telling someone to relax while physically hurting them and escalating a situation rarely works. It's sickening.
That's literally the point. Cause you pain -> tell you to relax -> you're not relaxing but fighting back -> resisting arrest -> omg he's dangerous, off to jail!
I agree too , even when they have an attack dog bitting you , pepper spraying you or cutting off your breathing with a choke hold or 3 or 4 officers 13:33 laying on you they will still say stop resisting .
Obviously I can't imagine a more relaxing scenario than being attacked by a gang of thugs, while one of them keeps bellowing "RELAX!" into your face, while you know jolly well that any move you make will undoubtedly land you in more trouble.
The fact that they asked to pick her up and bring her to the office was enough notice to believe they were targeting her as a criminal and not a victim. If they thought she was a victim they would have pulled up to her home to see what she knew.
If I were an attorney this is the amount of free advice I would hand out to anyone. Everything else I'd charge for. And that free advice is invaluable.

That is clear as day , seizing her phone without a warrant after setting her up to come to the police department just so they can get their hands on her phone as well. Not only do they need a warrant for the device itself but an additional warrant for the data inside of the phone. Disgusting
Exactly, as soon as she asked for an attorney present, that detective said, "take her to jail". That's incriminating of the detective. He was trying to do devious shit, and as soon as he knew he couldn't incriminate someone he threw her in jail. Disgusting. That detective should be thrown in jail for holding someone in jail with no reason. HOW can we say "innocent until proven guilty", but these fuckheads throw you in jail until you can pay a lawyer to prove you're innocent??? We need reforms big time.
It is a rope walk. If it is an interview they can question but not seize property but the person and property are free to leave anytime. If it is detainment, they can ask questions but can't treat silence as an admission of guilt and the person can't freely leave. And if it is an arrest, they still have to have a warrant to seize the property and have to stop any questioning once a right to an attorney has been evoked. If you know your rights, there is very little the police can do. And once they detain you, they have to have probable cause to arrest you. Although they got a lot of leeway in this area initially, if nothing comes of the investigation then they could be looking at another lawsuit.
I learned as a child that you can always spot a demon when they're inflicting misery or pain on an innocent person with a cheesy mocking smile they do it every time.

The fact that these two officers were not fired is astonishing. They were clearly comfortable in what they did which would lead any normal person to believe it was not the first time they did this kind of thing.
I don't disagree with your assessment but that is the thing about qualified immunity. Officers get a free pass even when they do wrong. DAs refuse to follow through on the charges once an investigation gets compromised so nobody can bring a case before the Supreme Court to get qualified immunity revisited. Because ultimately that is what would happen. And there have been way too many of these cases for the Supreme Court not to be restrictions on QI. The solution is to file lawsuits which the police department pay off before going to court. Or more correctly the insurance company with the police department pay off before it goes to court. So yes, this will continue to happen. Until somebody gets crazy enough to actually file a case against somebody who was a victim of police abuse of power.
They do this type of shit all the time because they rather jump loop holes by breaking our constitutional rights in order to close their case and write up their reports regardless of false accusations. Taking someone's phone is not a small inconvenience, that is a HUGE invasion of privacy and God knows the police won't have any urgency trying to give it back to you
It's also a really complicated issue. To gain access to the phone actually requires two warrants. One to seize the device in order to gain possession of it, but to actually access the DATA on the phone requires a second warrant.

*18 years old at 3AM - she did exceptionally well.* 9:47 *She invoked her right to have an attorney present during questioning,* officers continued to ask her questions - I don't expect LEOs to know the nuances of every law, but if they don't know the Miranda Rights (a rudimentary basic of performing law enforcement duties), they are unqualified to perform their duties.
@@komlat253 I think she sniffed out the LEOs were undertaking a ruse believing they would have it easy with a kid, then she suspected they were going to arrest her triggering her alarm response - if she was a little more clear headed, she would have stated she will not give a statement if they insist on taking her phone, ask to be taken home removing any stated reason for the police to take her phone, if LEOs insisted on her phone state she will call for a ride, forcing LEOs to reveal their reason for taking her phone. On the bright side, if she is going to college, the city will be paying a portion of it now.
Based on the known info, i imagine her house was on fire, and fire was put out, the female cop told her she could go to the station for an interview and they would send her back afterwards, so she hop on and went alone, with the cop that she trusted. She willingly became a hostage. Thankfully her brain somewhat worked a bit after they put her in handcuffs, and she did eventually got that one call out, released the next day.
I would say that the one thing she should have done immediately after being informed that the phone was being seized was to ask for a warrant. If they admit to not having one, they also admit that they have no right to seize the phone. If they still insist on seizing the phone, comply but inform them that you're going to go through the legal system.
@@theGreenChangeling Unfortunately they can legally seize the phone, whether exigent circumstances exist allowing them to retain possession and search its contents is up to a court to decide. Here the officers didn't provide a legitimate legal reason for seizure of the phone or even notify her she was being detained until she was arrested. It is really hard to say what the officers were thinking - could have intended to arrest her, could have manufactured a basis for the arrest for intimidation or believing the arrest would help get a warrant, could have just wanted to seize the phone, etc.
The one who kept saying I’m taking your phone you can tell is just a robot. She was either told by a detective or a superior to do it so she just kept repeating the same line over and over without realizing she didn’t have the right to do it. Complete incompetence.
I was thinking the same thing , the reason she wouldn’t articulate why they were going to take her phone is because of what u said . She’s just a puppet with someone’s hand up her ass
Blind obedience without the intellectual capacity to question illegal orders. The military used to give mandatory yearly briefings explaining that it is illegal to follow an order that a reasonable person would realize is illegal. Police should be given the same.
@@cvr527 They might be, but I think one of the main problems with police is that they bristle at *any* civilian questioning or challenging them in any way, so once the civilian challenges them, whether or not the cop is in the right, the cop will just use any means necessary to force the civilian to do whatever it is the cop has told them to do. You see it over and over again in these interactions. Police can often barely tolerate being interrupted or talked to "disrespectfully", let alone refusing to comply with a command, lawful or not.
@@aaroncalhoun157 No question that there is an authoritarian bent throughout law enforcement in the USA today. For the most part, it was not that way 30+ years ago.
I love how they are backing her into a corner. It's 3 AM, they had her waiting nearly an hour before finally getting back with her, she's still in a not 100% good place mentally because of the fire (on the phone with her mom to reassure her that's she's alright), and they're surrounding her in a police station giving her ultimatums which seem very unfair given the circumstances and how vague the officer is being. Add all that together and you have the perfect firestorm for a lawsuit brewing. I hope she gets justice
These situations can scar people mentally in really bad ways. I was falsely arrested and beaten twice when I was young by officers. Also has a boss accuse me of stealing and had loss prevention bully me in the back office. It gave me honest phobia of people with authority. It took me YEARS to get myself comfortable enough to have a decent/good relationship with my managers, bosses, and not have an anxiety attack when talking to officers. I felt the need to secretly record practically every interaction with all my superiors for years... This officer in this video is despicable. How was she ever handed a badge, and better yet, how are her peers just watching this take place? Honestly insane...
It was literally that: Their perceived "authoritay", and a complete lack of training in the law. We the people, should not be paying out settlements (or increased insurance premiums) due to the incompetence, criminal negligence, violations of law, lack of proper training/ procedure/ protocol under the law, etc.
She should all those tyrants that was standing by looking at what was happening to her. Black person needs to be fired. Her could have assisted her better. You might need help one day
Ms. Brown gets an A+ for being only 18 years old, barely knowing about laws and the real world, and still being able to keep her cool for the most part. If that was me at that age, for sure I would've been charged for much more when defending myself against those officers.
Sadly, the Black community has a lot of reason to be very aware of their rights, and to teach each other about their rights. I can readily see why she might have had some education (even with the inaccuracies mentioned in the video) and practice at dealing with cops. Her family and friends already have social historical reasons for distrust, and the cops have confirmed that in this episode.
🙋♂️same. Even at my age of 47. I'm not about starting trouble, I mean I'm 47 But I know what's up and I'm not getting punked by anyone even if I get my ass handed to me. I've been around too long
She was never getting an A or an A+... especially since she kept on talking right after correctly stating that she wished to remain silent and requesting a lawyer. That being said, however, she did exercise an unexpected level of poise given how swiftly things progressed.
Don't you have to be told, "You are under arrest!!" before you can be charged with resisting arrest?? I never heard them tell her that she was under arrest.
Same. Only for 4 years in California and I couldn't do it anymore. I drive a truck now Because never did I think I was going to be asked to lie or look the other way and essentially join them ( biggest gang in the world and is licensed to do so in a nut shell) I couldn't. I was raised with morals and now I find myself....I hate to even say it But I can say I do not like LE . I will do anything to not have to call 911 . I'm upset because when I was a little kid this is what I wanted. When playing "cops and robbers" I would sit out if I wasn't allowed to be the cop. I even got made fun of sometimes because i didn't like being the bad guy ...the robber
How are they not charged with kidnapping when they arrest someone that’s totally innocent? Unbelievable! They can just take ppl against their will and just say “whoops, bye!!”
They just make up bs charges and throw you in a cage. This is why we need police reform. No reasonable or “good” police officer would have done this to this girl. She came to the police station of her own will and they took her trust and smashed it into tiny pieces. Stealing her phone and her freedom. Never assist the police in any way and never talk to them. Police prove time and time again that they don’t care about citizens or the law so distance yourself from police as much as you can.
AGGRAVATED kidnapping, and aggravated assault. These criminals were in possession of several weapons and restraining devices. The way they escalated use of force speaks to intent to harm up to and including death.
And later have the audacity to play some sort of victim on "why won't people help us, why do people hate us?" And it just keeps getting worse. That female officer should be fired immediately, and this story has gotten viral, yet she's still not even identified by the department. They flat out don't care at this point
This is insane. They set her up, assaulted her, because she didn't comply. They new it would hem her up, what losers. How do theae people sleep. She was battered, it is called qualified immunity, freewill to do whatever your conscience allows.
"Take her to jail for whatever you've got" that is the detectives disregard for the public. He ordered her detention for whatever reason they could invent.
How that's not outright illegal in the US astounds me. For so much care and work that went into the bill of rights and ensuring liberty for all, police and lawmakers today really trample on it. It's disgusting.
Here's an idea: there's plenty of people running for office, especially the highest office, Comm in chief, that hold such values. There are also people with the opposite values, they want to prevent police/departments from even being sued, let alone doing anything to stop stuff like this video from happening. Know who to vote for, and vote.
And at the same time, courts see no excuse for ignorance or misinterpretation of the law…. For civilians. Cops are explicitly allowed to be ignorant or wrong about the law. That seems extremely backwards to me.
Quality Immunity was intended for a very specific situation. Inept judges went on to make it way too broad which is why SCOTUS will ultimately destroy it
The scary thing is, Ms Brown kept her calm, but many other people couldn't have. This literally triggers my PTSD simply watching this and i could easily see myself panicking. They escalate the situation and then arrest you when they send you into a breakdown
Another factor here is that Ms Brown is inexperienced and doesn't know the law/ didn't know the law, and they took advantage of her ignorance of the law by violating the law and her Constitutional Rights [Fourth Amendment], in their ignorance of the law and by committing a crime against an innocent person who volunteered to help them. Which is not only criminal, but incompetent and dangerous.
This is infuriating and the reason why I keep my phone encrypted. It breaks my heart to see a young woman experiencing how the police will lie, antagonize, assault, then charge you with a felony with a laugh and a smile. I hate how they can charge you for what your body does naturally while adrenaline is pumping through you and you're trying to defend yourself. No way do I think she purposefully assaulted an officer while they wrestled her to the ground and stole her property from her. They need to change the law so that the officer actually shows injury.
Hearing her say “I trusted you” is heartbreaking. I’ve definitely been here, it’s no small amount of trust to volunteer your freedom to people with power over you and she was betrayed. She was just in a house fire too. I hope she’s doing okay now. May Normal PD be taught a strict lesson by the judge in this case.
If you think the system is going to change anything these offices did then you're still being naive. Learn from her mistakes. Never trust the police. They lie for a living.
*The LEOs did a crap job of investigating* - better approach would have been to collect her voluntary statement, say she has to turn off her phone during questioning, take possession of her phone at the end of the questioning, then release her, even if she had to be restrained to collect the phone. *Instead they concocted this overly elaborate ruse,* aggravated a cooperating suspect by her by making her wait, lost the chance to collect a voluntary statement from an unsuspecting suspect, and exposed the department to liability for false arrest.
@@1SCme When cops take you to the station for questioning, they already suspect you. Never talk to cops without a lawyer. As for the phone, they had zero probably cause to collect her phone. If they did, they would have been issued the warrant. Instead, they used bully techniques and violated her civil right and their authority. They did so because they receive no penalty for doing so. Cops typically get to break the laws with impunity, and this is a perfect example of how they get away with it. The simply spin the rule to cover their atrocities. There was not "good faith" here. Only police corruption, and excessive force.
They always want to charge you with "resisting arrest" and "obstruction of justice" or "disorderly conduct" or "failure to ID" but what did they do to get those charges to begin with because they weren't charged with anything else but those things.
Nobody can explain how you just get charged with resisting arrest what was the original arrest that they were going to charge you with that you resisted?
@@thecloneguyz I was convicted on the sole charge of resisting arrest when i took it to trial, the cop took the stand and said "as soon as I put my hands on him he was under arrest" and the jury bought it
@@thecloneguyz It's police magic. When a person is being cuffed, they ask, why am I being arrested. The police will likely reply, you're not you're being detained. Then if you resist detention, it magically becomes an arrest.
I love re-imagining these scenarios in kid terms. Here's my scenario: A: Hey, wanna walk to my house after school? B: Sure! A+B: *walk to As house* A: Gimme your shoes. B: What? No? Why? A: Gimme your shoes or ima take em C: *stands nearby* B: Why? Why do you need my shoes? I need those to go home? A: You can go home but we're taking your shoes. B: Why!? A: I dunno my mom told me to take your shoes B: You're not taking my shoes! A+C: *Bodyslams and takes her shoes, before locking her in the bathroom*
I never really comment on these but the words "I came here willingly" & "I trusted you". Just broke my heart. These officers are something else. They have only succeeded in breaking the trust between themselves and the community they serve. p.s. I think this girl deserves an A- at least. She acted like any other normal 18 year old would.
I think she acted better than most normal 18 yr olds. I can't see myself at 18 being so calm and not completely losing it! The A$$-hat that got "kicked"😑 would've been wishing that's all she got, and I probably would've been beat mercilessly by these "protectors" of the people, 😂 lol. The absolute inhumanity and power hungry egos involved in this was so infuriating. She definitely should've received an A-, agreed. To think of the trauma she just went through in a fire as well makes it that much worse. These "cops" should be ashamed, terminated, and prosecuted.
The one thing I don’t like about this channel is the robotic take on these interactions. I appreciate the non bias and fully legal approach but in many cases like this one audit loses all sympathy and doesn’t take into consideration the stress and fear these people are in. This is a legal issue based on precedent, officers aren’t disciplined for their actions caused by stress or fear yet we are expected to act without emotion in these same situations.
She just learned the hard way, it's not BLACK VS WHITE, it's US VS THEM. I'm gonna go out on a strong limb here.... The apartment owner is rich and has ties to city officials / police chief / mayor. They are all doing this under instructions from the apartment owner. The owner 100% believes it's the defendants fault and not something to do with their apartment. They already think she's guilty and is treating her as such. Guilty before proven innocent is the new normal now that the rich and powerful so obviously control our police departments
Ironically enough, this happened in a town named Normal. Ms. Taylor Brown's lawyer said, that Normal Police Department has refused to identify the arresting officers, leading her to seek a subpoena. According to the lawsuit, the 18-year-old was taken to jail and asked to strip down so that law enforcement could search for contraband. She was later released from jail. It was also revealed that Brown was not charged with any crimes related to either the fire or her actions at the police station. Her phone was also returned after the police failed to obtain a warrant after seizing her phone.
@@Aquotric I didn't hear them say she was strip searched for contraband or the lawyer had to get a subpoena just to identify which officers participated
Great point. This could be a backdrop video for major nationwide legislation to utterly end QI. "Normal" policing like this is exactly what the 'case law' known as Qualified Immunity has cursed America with for decades.
This is what happens when you trust the police. She came down to their station to give them an interview and they steal her phone and throw her in jail. Citizens are going to have to learn that police are absolutely untrustworthy and you should never assist their investigations.

What I'm learning from watching Audit the Audit is that there are laws and rulings continually being made that weaken our constitutional rights and increasing police power's. The very reason we have an out of control police force in America.
Yes, and it's a maze that no ordinary person can understand. They've basically codified words like "reasonable" in a way that allows them to mix and match anything, in order to make whatever they did legally "reasonable", even if it no longer has anything to do with what a sane person would deem reasonable.
Suggests the chief is a tyrant, and lures officers into a false sense of immunity, knowing if anything goes sour the chief is safe, and the officer will take all the shame and punishment on themselves. Basically, officers are usually fall guys for folks far worse than themselves. You gotta ask how all officers on site were acting like this, if it isn’t common behavior at the precinct...
Congratulations police officers. You just turned a person who volunteered to help your investigation into a person that will never help you in the future.
Police: why these people are not helpfull ?!!!!!
I hate all cops for cops like that
I was interested in being an officer some years ago.
She never “asked” a single time, she demanded the phone. No warrant, no legal justification for a theft of property
Cop was clearly on a power trip. Typical fragile ego. How dare you question my authority to illegally seize your property!?
I also wouldn't be surprised if they purposely make her wait for an interview as some sort of psychological tactic. Clearly they see her as a suspect, confiscating her phone.
Even if they are not required to give a reason, it seems obvious that they would get more cooperation by simply explaining their requests which in turn might make sound the request as reasonable. Again, no de escalation....
It was the way she just used the assumption that she could remove that poor ladies phone. These lawsuits should be deducted from the Police pension fund; doing that, would stop this disgraceful behaviour is about 1 week.
The fact that legal justification doesn't have to be disclosed is ridiculous

Racial disparities have long pervaded every step of the criminal justice process, from police stops, searches, arrests, shootings and other uses of force to charging decisions, wrongful convictions, and sentences. As a result, many have concluded that a structural or institutional bias against people of color, shaped by long-standing racial, economic, and social inequities, infects the criminal justice system. These systemic inequities can also instill implicit biases - unconscious prejudices that favor in-groups and stigmatize out-groups - among individual law enforcement officials, influencing their day-to-day actions while interacting with the public. Two lessons here:
1) never voluntarily go the the police department for an investigation/interview.
2) Always demand to see a warrant whenever an officer demands your property.
If you insist on going to the police department, bring a lawyer. The chances of police shenanigans go down.
Or only take your ID. Don’t even drive to them
You can demand it but they won't necessarily have one or give it to you if they do.
100%. Never, ever, be interviewed by the cops without an attorney representing you.

When will people learn??? DO NOT TRUST COPS!!!
@@superdave8248 I fault her for believing that she needed to go to the station. If cops offer you a ride it is rarely going to help you in any way.

Why do officers believe someone is going to "relax" as they are being assaulted? I will never understand this. It is your natural instinct to resist to some extent. If an officer puts you into some kind of hold that causes pain you are naturally going to try to make that pain stop?

They have that upper hand in breaking the law as they so please, just to cut their long hour shift short by not giving a shit. Besides most of these individuals should be psyche evaluated because most of them have narcissistic, psychopathic, ego driven characteristics. These are easily identifiable traits with many people who get into any type of work field with no care in the world trying to cut corners and abuse their power of position.
